Gable Steveson

That post is very succinct. Unfortunately, one can only guess at what it means.

I think he meant that I had the wrong brother - that Seth was the one for whom coming to PSU was not etched in stone. At least that's what I think. I meant AJ.

Sorry. I thought you were saying Seth coming wasn't carved in stone.

Just to be certain. What you meant was that before AJ did commit to Penn State there was uncertainity?

As you will recall, AJ deferred his admission to PSU. Casey said AJ had outgrown 197 and that a final decision on his future school had not been made. At least that's what I got.

It would not take much of an imagination to envision A.J. choosing a different school to attend if Seth decided PSU was the place for him. A.J. is obviously a very good wrestler, but as a 285 prospect he is not the recruit Seth is by any means. I doubt Cael would just pencil him in as a 3 year starter even if Seth picked a different school. I don't say that to be mean or in any way condescending toward A.J. I'm sure the communication between the brothers and the coaching staff is open and truthful, so there wouldn't be much awkward about the entire situation. Everyone involved understands PSU is trying to stay on top and nothing is personal.

Actually I forgot about the late admission. I had noticed he wrestled heavyweight a Lock Haven tournament and I believe another more recent tourney.

Thanks for the clarification.

So what I draw from this exchange is that [1] Seth Nevills to PSU is not the sure thing that some (many?) posters seem to assume, [2] AJ Nevills to PSU isn't a sure thing either, and [3] Seth's and AJ's college decisions may be influenced by one another.

Is that about right?

The more pertinent question may be the opposite - Seth choosing a different school if AJ ends up at PSU.

Oy! If AJ stays at PSU, I hope PSU does get Steveson. As noted above, AJ is not the same level prospect as his brother or Gable.

I think only [2] above is all can be drawn from this discussion. Seth's decision is unknown as it always was and it seems AJ might be considering other options since he grew out of 197. I wouldn't be shocked if Seth and AJ talk to each other, though. :)

The list of kids who were not "same-level" prospects that out-placed their higher-ranked classmates cannot be counted on one, two or twenty hands. Really wish people would stop putting so much stock in high school rankings. An indicator for sure, but only one in a set of many that determine success.

All overflow Nevills boys are welcome at ISU.

I would normally agree, but 285 prospects who weight 260 plus are simply much more likely to succeed when compared to guys who outgrow 197. Seth is bigger all the way around and a better prospect. A.J. seemed like a very good 197 prospect to me.

I disagree. Different era for heavyweights - way more athletic types are succeeding. Snyder is an outlier but is owning these bigger guys. Jacob Kasper, Austin Schafer, Ryan Solomon, Jared Johnson all top 12 guys who bumped up.

Even the "bigguns" like Medbery, Walz, Nevills are winning because they are athletic, not because they are simply large

Assuming he already chose Wrestling route over Football(which has been suggested), I would think if Snacks was definitely coming to PSU he would have announced already, I have a bad feeling he is going else where Or he is making sure Gable does not follow Hall to PSU first? Pure speculation

Agree to disagree. I think Seth is more athletic than A.J. as well, but when 2 equal athletes face off the one with 25-30 lbs. on the other will win more often than not. Seth will be at least that much bigger than A.J. which makes him the better 285 prospect.

He had posted he was a "future PSU wrestler" but took it down, for what reason who knows but we are in at least consideration. Don't think a lack of announcement is indication of anything. Would love to see him in B&W

Alright, I think we're arguing two different things. I can agree with this specific scenario presented

If Seth ends up coming to PSU, his first year could be a red shirt during brother Nick's senior year. In that scenario, I would assume AJ would have a hard time beating either brother for a starting spot at 285.

The move from 97 may mean AJ has a choice of a career backup at PSU or a switch to another school where he has a better chance of starting.

I also agree that a higher rank in HS doesn't mean a better college career. But in the rankings I looked at, NN was overall #5 in the class (assume Seth will be top ten also), and AJ was 88th. AJ could certainly end up being better than one or both of his bros, but I'd think odds are against him. Even if he could win a starting spot, he'd be pushing one of his brother's into a backup role - family may want to avoid this.

Just a hunch, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Gable decision possibly being a domino with Seth's decision, and possibly AJs decision also.

interesting, hope that message being gone does not mean anything cuz I agree, I would also love to see him in B&W

I just hope now that AJ is at Hwt it does not play into Seths decision....AJ is very small and not even close to Seth when it comes to wrestling ability !!!! Seth and Gable are the 2 best HWT in the country....Seth is more the TRUE HWT between the 2....

Maybe the Nevills brothers will go to Fresno State which is reinstating their program next year, no inside knowledge, just that is where they are from and family and friends could get to see them regularly (total guess/hunch)

Since they are both at 285 and only a couple of years apart in eligibility at this point, both going to the same school would seem highly unlikely.

Penn State Pessimism is strong on this. Seth has Olympic aspirations -- exactly how will the nascent Fresno program help him fulfill that goal?

You qualified that your post is pure speculation, but it does not appear to be based on anything substantive.

Athletes make their college decisions anywhere from 8th grade to 12th grade. There is nothing consistent about the process.

Nick verballed in July between his junior and senior year in HS. AJ verballed in January of his senior year in HS. I can't recall when the oldest brother, Zach, verballed to Stanford as part of the 2012 class.

He'll make a decision that is good for him, and tell those outside of the family about it when he's ready to do so.

Everything you say is 100% correct, I was just coming at it from the perspective of the fact Snacks taking over for his brother Nick at HWT is just to perfect of a fit to not happen. because of the perfect fit, those were the only 2 reasons I could feel comfortable speculating about. I actually think the Gable speculation is very legit...unless Cael has told him he is all in on snacks....We both know it would be impossible for both gable and snacks to go to the same school...they are 1A and 1a......I am hoping to stay family strong!!!! I want Snacks!!!

Steveson has tweeted his top 4 and it was retweeted by Flo. I don't know how to put the tweet in this post. Nor do I speak emoji, which is how Gable composed his tweet.

So go look on twitter and let me know if you can translate emoji to English.

My .02...

-Not aware of the Okie St connection.

-Iowa has Teasdale verballed (his buddy) and teaming with Spencer is a good sell for any recruit.

-PSU has Marky already and RBY verballed (both his buddies) and solid/proven upperweight coaching.

-Minny has his brother and likely numerous friends and a history of HWT success.

I'd guess it's ordered Minny, PSU, Iowa, and Okie St in probability...let's hope if not PSU, it's Minny! Sure would be a great get though!
