Gable Steveson

2 days ago weren't you all in on Gable? Don't have time to search your posts, but that's my recollection.

If so, you change your mind faster than a 14 year old girl trying on shoes at the mall
I would love to have either one after going back and forth over and over....

Gulibon beat Clark? Damn that must have been awhile ago. An empty Carver Hawkeye arena has a better atmosphere than thr BJC. Come on man!

Good luck fighting for 4th place guys. Beats what's coming next year I suppose.

I didn't move any goalposts. You made a vague, blanket statement without any facts behind it. I brought some facts into it. If you think a less-than-half full CHA has a better atmosphere than a packed Rec Hall, I'd suggest you go to a Lehigh match at a packed Grace Hall and one at a half-full Stabler Arena and see what you glean from the difference.

I've been to a lot a sporting events - wrestling, football, basketball, soccer (including a World Cup match), hockey (including Stanley Cup finals), baseball and more, at all levels. Nothing ever matched the level of energy reached in Bryce Jordan when Gulibon beat Clark in 2015.

Btw, CHA is about 1.5% "bigger" than Bryce Jordan, not really statistically significant.
any idea what the waiting list # would be at rh? would have to think we could easily draw 10,000+ if the seats were there.

He's an Ohio State fan, actually.

I think he's going to be a nittany lion

And what telltale signs do you see for that outcome?

Edit: I was thinking that maybe Penn State has a shot because he's announcing at the tourney rather than announcing in Minnesota. Some say it may be an attention seeking thing but it also might be him announcing at the tourney so he could celebrate another ncaa championship with his future teammates.

I have to agree with our Hawk friends here, that if I was a neutral observer, I'd probably prefer the Carver venue for the history and tradition, over BJC. That's why I love going to MSG or Boston Garden for a hoops game or old Yankee stadium or Fenway or Wrigley for baseball, even though I'm a Philly sports guy, and I detest those teams.

I'd love to see a match at Carver, but for tradition give me Rec Hall. It was built around 1928, by the same guy who built the Palestra in Philly the year before. The Palestra is considered the Mecca or cathedral of college basketball, much like what we hear about Carver. But wasn't Carver built in the 80s almost a half century after Rec Hall. So while I'd say B10 fans are lucky to have both Rec Hall and Carver to watch wrestling in, give me Rec Hall for the tradition and intimate setting.

He is announcing on Flo on this week right ? Not at Nationals or are you saying he will do it with Flo at Nationals ? It will probably be on Thursday i would guess...I have no clue who he will select....

This year:

Iowa can claim highest average attendance

PSU can claim highest percentage capacity

Rutgers can claim single event attendance

Each one of these claims has validity in it's own way - that's statistics for you.

But to claim the biggest stage is currently Iowa - nope, not anymore.

PSU will have had the most fans watch them wrestle this year (home and away). 15,338 at tOSU, 14,059 at OSU (both records), 14,311 at Iowa. 35 straight sell-outs at Rec Hall. 3 out of 4 sell-outs at BJC. Almost 2,000 attendance AT ARMY. There were over 15,000 watching the tOSU-PSU cluster of a facebook/twitter/periscope feed - imagine how many would have been tuned in via FLO if it had worked.

PSU is currently the big stage and has been for a few years now. If Iowa wants to lay claim to that again, they will have to wrestle it away from PSU.

Serious question for Hawkeye fans - I can't seem to find it researching on the internet - when is the last sellout at Carver? I know it wasn't this year.

Do they really have to wrestle it away, or would you just let them tie up and push while yelling heeees staaaalllllling?

Well the kid is good we all know that.
Only thing that puzzles me is why is he doing this at NCAA'S? Only reason I can come to is he is attention head type of person. Now CP says doing it between sessions on Thursday so making him the talk of the week end. Just me cause I'm old and old fashion I would rather have a wrestler who would run through a wall for me than one I might have to kiss his a$$ all the time...

I'd rather have the best wrestlers in my room and trust my coaches to correct any minor issues like wanting to be the center of attention at 17 years old in the room than have a bunch of perfect kids and poor wrestlers. It's not like the kid has a drinking problem, he likes attention like any other teenager and through his wrestling has earned the right to have it.

Timing does seem odd. No recruit no matter how great can grab too much of my attention when the greatest show on earth is right in front of me. There are some absolute killer matches in every weight class from the quarters on in plus several before that have my interest. I will be mostly waiting to watch a certain lightweight back from injury.

Strong counter point. He is probably quite normal in that regard. I just never had the skills to garner such attention so never had the problem.

Again how did the Long situation work out? Did u trust your coaches then? End of this topic.

Yeah I trust my coaches. They're the coaches who balked on Chance Marstellar when everyone in America wanted him for character concerns. Gable doesn't have any real issues. Liking attention isn't a rare or particularly bad thing at 17 years old and it can be worked out through proper guidance. Though, I'd doubt he'd get the proper guidance to stop wanting to be the center of attention at Iowa considering Tom and Terry Brands are the two biggest attention seekers in College Wrestling this side of Pat Downey and Thomas Gilman's antics have been embarrassing this year for a grown man in his fifth year in the program. You might say Tom and Terry and Thomas are the "Iowa Way". I got news for you, the "Iowa way" is about to go without a national title for the seventh straight tournament and is now running third in its own conference, and it's not because Iowa is recruiting choir boys.

Teasdale has been doing zero attention hounding whatsoever, right?

Gilman is the perfect counterpoint here. His circus show is far more reprehensible than the timing of a young kid's announcement. Have the Brands done anything to stop his attention seeking behavior? Also, would they throw their best wrestler out because of some eccentric behavior? Answers: Nothing and no way.
I think we get Seth Nevills but I'd be ecstatic with Steveson.

From the same HS as Mark Hall and seems to be very good friends with PSU commit Roman Bravo-Young, aside from that PSU has a great team and a great environment to be in if you're going to wrestle. Only other team I saw on his list that could rival that CURRENT winning culture is Oklahoma State.

I'd bet on Minnesota here, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Happy to say I got to see a hockey game at the Montreal Forum and many games at the original Yankee Stadium.

Too late. Boston Garden was demolished in 1998. :)

Yes, thanks, that should have been past tense. I got to see a game in TD this year. Not quite the same, but the fans are still just as obnoxious. Fond memories of seeing games with my grandfather in the Garden years ago. The Garden had some of the same great character that Rec Hall still has.

I don't know many Knicks fans who are ecstatic about going to MSG right now o_O

Steveson is used to winning team titles at Apple Valley. He is fully aware that he would most likely be part of four team titles at PSU. Minn. is home. It should be a two horse race. tOSU would have been a great place for him if they hadn't went another direction a year earlier. I will not be surprised if he picks PSU. There is little question it is where he would expand his skills the most and increase his chances for Olympic Gold down the road.

I'm betting this is as much a FLO thing as the kid desiring to announce it this way. They have conversations with the big recruits all the time. Same as when they have the Berge RBY announcement last year.

Gable is awesome and I would be very excited if he decides to go to PSU, That being said I think it would be really weird to not get the last piece of the Nevills set, especially when he is such a perfect fit and the best of the 3 by his own brothers admissions. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes, I would just find it odd
