By most objective measures PSU should be ahead of Clemson based on the competition each has beaten thus far. This is yet another example of why preseason polls are stupid. PSU has to overcome the preseason bias just to get past them. The same can be said for many of the other undefeated teams that are ranked much lower. They don't have the power of "branding" that PSU has, so they are stuck quite low in the polls behind a bunch of one and two loss teams. Granted their schedules have been quite easy so they probably should be the lowest ranked unbeatens, but the whole premise of preseason polls is stupid. I wish all polls were removed until at least November. I won't be at all surprised if PSU comes in at #3 or #4 in the first playoff rankings. Of course that doesn't mean squat until the last week of the season, but for now I think they deserve it based on who they've beat.Nice to see. I posted a thread earlier that people are starting to beat the drum comparing PSU and Clemson.
Thinking conspiracy wise, maybe they're greasing the skids so that when PSU comes out #4 in the CFP next week people are not so outraged - assuming PSU takes care of business in between, they may be setting up a #2 vs #3 game in Columbus.
I think the letter's fun. But I'm not a fan of Fleck and will be mad if we lose to someone like him. He apparently traded in his wife once he became more famous. He also totally dissed Jerry Kill and others who helped him get where he's at once he got the job.
Yards don't really matter as much as points.
The loss of a child would be devastating. I think he also said his first wife wasn't on board with his coaching career. So I probably shouldn't judge him based on being remarried. But the Kill comments don't paint him in a good light. Maybe there's more to it that we don't know.Obviously I don't know the details of his first or second marriage. I do know that it is widely reported that the first marriage was strained/ ended due to the death of one of their children (cancer?). Many marriages fall apart due to the loss of a child. Anyway, if I am not mistaken, that is what was/ is behind the whole row the boat mantra.

That he he married a chick that looks like she does porn on the side.
Nice way to invite a lawsuit, James. I guess the defense would be that having an ugly wife by James Franklin's standard doesn't make you part of a protected class. If I could afford it, I would too. I think CJF might agree.
"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I've seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she's a D-I recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal," Franklin said in an interview on Nashville's 104.5 FM The Zone on Wednesday.
"There's a very strong correlation between having the confidence, going up and talking to a woman, and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being fun and articulate, than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him."

Here's a link to an interesting interview I heard this morning with P.J. Fleck on 680 The Fan in Atlanta. It's the voice of sports in the south and primarily focuses on the SEC, and then the ACC. It's very rare for them to interview B10 coaches or give time to B10 teams / narratives. Shows the national interest in this game. P.J. comes over very "Franklin like" in terms of values and process. Who is the most authentic? Don't know, but PSU better be ready as these folks have everything riding on this game in terms of pride, prestige, and measuring who they are. It's overwhelming he's looking for true legitimacy for his program and beating PSU is the way to do it. Another game where the team is definitely the hunted and will need to play its absolute best. The loss of a child would be devastating. Yea that sucked
Admittedly know nothing about Minnesota so I looked up there depth chart.
I’ve heard of veteran teams but this defense is ridiculous: 8 senior starters, 5 or 6 of them 5th years

Tells me Pry needs to blitz the CB's....mid-way in Q1, then delay during Q2 and Q3 (if necessary) and then again in Q4.D-Line will have a big challenge against Minnesota. Largest O-Line they will see this year.
Their O-Line goes: 6-9 400, 6-6 325, 6-5 345, 6-6 325, 6-5 305.
Huge line great running game. This team is being built similar to Wisconsin.
Shelton loss for the game will sting some. They will run right right at the heart of the defense. A lot of screens getting the O-Line involved.
Hope they will be up for the challenge! Gotta stop that run game.

Agree. Jerry Kill seems to hate him, and Jerry is well respected within the coaching community. Kill won at every level, often at places with fewer resources than his competitors. Not a good look for Fleck.
The way Kill tells it Fleck wouldn't even speak to him after he took the job.Kill's high ceiling is mediocrity/respectability. He's a bitter old man, a boring old fart...and he's jealous of Fleck. He wants credit for Fleck's success, which is ridiculous.
As for Fleck's personal-life/love-life...I won't repeat the Row The Boat story and all that. But I will say that there's never been any reports of bad behavior on his part. I haven't dug into it...who knows, he might not be perfect...but there aren't any bad things that jump out.

This came up in google search for "PJ Fleck wife". Though it doesn't look like his 2nd wife. I am intrigued.
