Game 9: PSU @ Minnesota, TCF Stadium, Nov 9th, noon EST

Yes Tom McAndrew (just acknowledging your post), for us Gopher fans, this is a very big game. We could act like we've been there, but we haven't for a very long time. Win, lose or draw, I hope we play to a level that honors our two programs!

Still over seven days to go!

I expect a great game and am thrilled with all the National pub it’s getting (and will get next week). Lots of respect for your program.

Thanks! and yours as well. One if not both of our programs should benefit from the national exposure.

I think both of our coaches get it. They're modern coaches that also respect the past.

Cheers!

I don't feel like a "maroon out" will be particularly visually striking. Any reason to not ask everyone to wear gold?
Maybe they think more of us have Maroon (or close) outdoor clothing? What I do know is that whatever color they choose, half of us will wear the other color.

LOL. Fair point on the cold weather gear. One nice thing about the white out is you can get oversize painters gear (usually white) and wear it over your regular winter gear. Or if it's raining...white kitchen trash bag. :)

Ha! Nice! Off Topic. Do Iowa fans wear black industrial garbage bags then?:p;)

Wonder if there is a decent PSU bar in New Orleans. Will be there next weekend, and was hoping to find a good place to watch the PSU-Minny game. Will be in the Bourbon Street neighborhood.

I don't believe there is a PSU bar in the Quarter.

The official PSU bar is Mid City Yacht Club in Mid City. It's about a 15 minute uber ride from the Quarter, or you could take the Canal St streetcar line (would probably be about 45 minute trip).

I watched a game there a few years back and it was a nice spot (not super crowded). The only thing I would say it that it is also the watch spot for a couple of other schools, so depending on who is playing, it might be more crowded.

If you want a solid sports bar in the Quarter that you can walk to that will have the game on (or put it on for you), I'd recommend:

Dive bar with good bartenders, a bunch of TVs and decent bar food. Definitely a NOLA classic. There will be both tourist and locals there. Really solid bar.

or if you prefer something more upscale

(Deuce McAllister is the owner)

If all else fails, another spot with a million TVs is Mannings which is over by the casino (short walk from Quarter). It's a little corporate for my tastes, but has TONS of TVs and recliner style seating.

Let me know how your trip goes. NOLA is my favorite Southern city.

FC: James Franklin says Minnesota has the most talented WRs that we will have seen, so far, this year. Better than Michigan's trio of Peoples-Jones, Black and Bell.

Then you have their gigantic OL:
6-9 400
6-6 325
6-5 345
6-6 325
6-5 305

Oh, and their featured tailback Rodney Smith has more rushing yards than our top 3 RBs combined -- nearly 4,000 career rushing yards.

Gophers just keep getting better every single week. Hope we're not overlooking them for OSU.

I'm sure the team and coaches aren't as the film does not lie. However, I've seen comments from posters here expecting at least a two touchdown or "let's crush them" victory - all based on Minnesota's (1) weaker schedule and (2) our successful gauntlet run of Iowa, Michigan, and MSU. I really hope that's true, but a reasonable case could be made that they are better than all three of those teams. Oh, and playing at their place too which has turned into another, albeit unexpected, gauntlet game for us. How will we do having played 3 of our last 4 tough B10 games on the road in a pressure packed situation? This is going to be a dog fight. It's been a long time since we've had a McAndrew Board meltdown when our unreasonable expectations weren't met, so like Coach Franklin is preaching, Minnesota, Minnesota, Minnesota............

Gross-Matos and Toney have got to whip their OTs. The 400 pound Australian has cement feet and should not be able to keep two pros out of the backfield.

If they (especially Toney) disappear again, we’re in for a shootout

I really don’t know how good Minny is, I guess we’ll find out Saturday. But you have to love Franklin for maintaining focus and building up the next opponent. He’s approaching Lou Holtz status who could make the Holy Sisters of the Poor an unstoppable juggernaut.

They're holding up better than expected -- allowing only 2 sacks per game. You'll never guess who is No. 1 in sacks recorded.

PSU's experience in tough road games should be an advantage. The key is to get out to an early lead like we did vs. Iowa, Mich, & MSU. The longer Minnesota hangs in the more confident they will become.

The other key is winning the turnover battle. PSU beat Iowa & Michigan by 1 score and turnovers were the difference.

Only because some really horrible officiating made those games so close.
We got some breaks vs. Mich.

Regardless, people will likely complain that the refs screwed us vs. Minny. We better win the TO battle.

Certainly PSU got some breaks, but the breaks that PSU gets are always those bang-bang, questionable calls that could go either way. I'd rather get the breaks that Michigan received. The glaring mistakes that had a direct scoreboard impact.

I dont mean to be paranoid big ten conspiracy guy but i could definitely see them rowing the boat in Minnesotas favor if PSU doent play 2 touchdowns better. They'd play Minnesota over PSU 900k times innthe offseasons on the network.
