Basketball GAME THREAD: PSU Hoops versus Purdue

We’ve got their big men in foul trouble. We’ve just had some unforced turnovers so if we clean that up, we should stay in this game. Need Lundy to start scoring.

Seth missed 2 wide open treys...one from each corner on consecutive possessions. Today may not be his day. Purdue too good to not have him contribute significantly on offense.

wholeheartedly agree. Many of the new PSU players have gotten better with time including Pickett, Lee, and White.
Interesting coaching moves today. After Cornwall's turnover and brainfart intentional foul I'm not sure he returned. Sam didn't really get into the flow of the game. He had a turnover followed up by letting 55 sneak back door for an uncontested lay up. His time dwindled significantly thereafter too. Overall good game for both teams. They are #3 for a reason.

Sam had a couple boneheaded plays. He has played his way to the second string and the end of the bench might not be that far away in his future. You can't be throwing up wild layups like he seems to do a lot in B10 play.

I'm almost at the point of hoping Sandy bumps Shrew's salary by a couple 100 thousands. He's got the team playing really good defense and the offense is starting to come around. It's an outside shot but he could put us in a position to go dancing if we pull a couple upsets with some of the top 25 B10 teams and take care of business with the lower half of the B10.

In-game coaching with regard to substitution patterns and changing the offences and Baseline out-of-bounds plays is obviously better than previous coaches. Was nice to see some straight zone looks as well as a box and one. Would still like them to get in to the offensive post up or penetration a little bit earlier but Pickett has turned into Tony carr with some late in the shot clock heroics.

Nice to see Johnson getting more minutes at cornwalls expense, as he cant hit anything right now and doesn't bring much else to the floor.
Sessoms is a ball dominant player who doesn't help much if not scoring, if he gets buckets early hes ok but he has trouble getting by the good guards in conference.

Overall a lot of positives, will be a tough team as the year goes on. Too bad they missed those December probable wins, quad 3 and 4 wins wint get them in the tourney but makes the record a smidge better.

Went to the game today - the only Saturday home Big Ten game on schedule. Once again, a shout out to our non-performing athletic director - should be benched.

Really disappointing fan support, many good seats empty on sidelines. Ticket master displayed tickets as "sold", yet they were empty. If you're not going to the game, post your tickets for resale so some else can attend.

Playing #3 team, fans quiet. Altoona HS pepband learned some songs familiar to PSU fans, got zero support from PSU cheerleaders getting fans involved. Cheerleaders were preoccupied socializing with each other (their PSU employed leadership needs fired)....

Goal for the rest of the season needs to be .500 in conference play. If we do that, we’ll be dancing. 9-11 or 8-12 would put us on the bubble where we would need to win some games in the big ten tourney to get in. If we stay healthy, we have a shot.

Yeah, need to win 2 of next 3 for sure. (Rutgers, at osu, minn) Then a tough stretch that will probably determine tournament chances, 2 with Iowa, at indy and at wisc, somehow need to get at least 1 if not 2 of those.

The IU team we beat looked nothing like the team that took OSU....their #32 freshman who didn't play vs us looked really good. Made everyone better. Home cooking helped too. Two of 4 in that stretch would be tourney worthy in my opinion

Agree Bison...I thought the 2 missed box outs by Harrah in the last 2 minutes were crucial. Purdue scored 5 on those 2 possesions. But Shrew is very good.

If they beat rutgres and minn at home they would be 4-4 in conference at that point. The issue with those next four is that 3 are on the road. All are winnable IMO but 1-3 is probable and then going to need to knock off one of the Michigan schools at home if they dont go 2-2. MD and Minn on the road, split those and beat NU and Neb at home and that's 9-9. Puts them in the bubble at Illinois and at rutgres, so its possible but no easy games, lots of teams all in the same boat.

Yeah harrar is a warrior but Williams is a stud, cant fault john too much on that. I do feel harrar does not get calls compared to other bigs or in that case, do t think he fouled Williams on the and 1.

to me - shrew’s coaching already looks better than Chambers’. While I don’t know what happened at UMass, this team has played everyone else tough and seems to “panic” less than with Chambers. No stupid end of game possessions where you say, “what was that? I wish we had seen Lamar Stevens under Shrew’s tutelage.

With a good recruiting class coming in, I think Shrews has us headed in the right direction.
