Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State vs. Michigan

Maybe, but the problem with Diaz's scheme is that it will often give up the big play.

Yes. But thats the only thing working today at least partially.

Our guys are getting blown off the ball on both lines. We have no LBs and no running game.

What scheme should he be deploying? Keep in mind of our 17 points 7 were scored by our defense and 7 from a trick play.

No question...3rd down on both sides has been an annual JF issue. However, we were artificially in this game with 2 big plays. At no point were we ever truly in it...that's a big problem in yr 8 or whatever it is. The LOS has been a joke for yrs.
Totally agree. That’s the problem with PSU under Franklin- there are glaring errors but it all gets papered over and people (fans, local media, PSU admins) refuse to see or deal with the reality of the situation. Instead they twist themselves in pretzels making excuses.

This is year 9 IIRC and the play is just horrible. The 10 year contract extension was utterly ridiculous.

Hey I’m an optimist… we have a bunch of freshmen skill guys in this game. Hopefully we have some freshman lineman in the weight room to go with them.
"Hope" is about all that seems to be. Franklin has consistently under recruited the OL, particularly OT. And for all the numbers at DT, as well as their experience as there are many upper classment DT's on the roster, the beef is just not there.........

And there are a good many WR's on the roster, most of them were high 3 star or low 4 star players. But outside of a couple of catches by Tinsley and one by Wallace our WR corps has performed more like one recruited by the bottom feeders of the B10.

Franklin needs to go. Great recruiting, cannot coach worth a damn.

This is honestly ridiculous. We get dominated and people are still bitching about the refs. The refs are not one of our biggest problems let alone the biggest
Agree. It's always going to be the way out for some fans. If anything, PSU got a ton of holding calls go their way early on. But let's blame the refs by God

The fanboys stay silent on this thread during games, otherwise u and i would be crucified in seconds after this post. But u nailed it 1000%

Actually, Diaz has been playing exactly the opposite all year. Relying on DB’s to hold things in front. And by and large it has worked.

today, you see an OL that doesn’t have to rely much on double teaming to create a hole. That leaves a free OL or TE to obliterate an MLB (like on the last long TD run) or literally have 2 OL’s pull wide on the other one, taking out LB and DB’s.

This game is all about the trenches and we can’t dig one.

I'm going to work on the post game recap - I think everyone has it handled on the rest of the way.
Any thoughts on

1, let that sink in 1 year in his 9 years with a top 3 OLine in the Big 10 - This is PENN STATE - No reason when from a facility and $ standpoint you have top 3 resources in the conference to not represent the program up front at least every other year.

Hackenburg 2.0 - The fact Ohio State did not make him a priority tells me everything I need to know. He will be killed behind this OL. We need a dual threat who can win games with his legs. Robinson, Clark, McSorley, etc. And we lose Veillaux to thee portal to boot.
That’s bullshit! Allar was a 3* ranked player his junior year. By senior season OSU was recruiting him highly. PSU scouts were ahead of the game on his development. Pisses me off you’d knock Allar just because OSU wasn’t high on him to begin with. Really a dick comment!

And I'm honestly not "mad" we lost. Michigan's the better team--we're just being dominated which shouldn't be happening.

This is also why I didn't want Allar to play today

The problem is that I don’t see this staff coaching them up
then the team loses confidence in the plays
then we swan dive the season

then Franklin will recruit another batch of athletes
we will win early
have a game like this
then the cycle begins again………
Don’t forget the yearly fawning over what a great recruiter Franklin is and that’s why he should stay……… followed by actual games and then the talk of how we don’t have any real linebackers, how the O line stinks, how we just don’t have enough on the D line, how we have no deep threat receivers etc etc.

Saddest part of this is our alleged stud RB‘s have become non factors
They're young and they're running behind a bad OL. I don't think the fumbles helped their confidence at all against NW. I still have faith in both being good

Absolutely ridiculous call on 4th down. Four guys way down field. Allar in a collapsing pocket with no options.

Where is the crossing pattern underneath to Washington? Instead we've used him on fade routes.

Guys are not getting free of Michigan's defense, yet we've made no adjustments.

Remember Franklin saying something on OL will do the talking on field or something over summer. They are talking,.like a Chatty Cathy.

We need to get a coach who understands what football is all about

No! Just experience in playing.
But experience isn't always good. It has to be meaningful and putting him in a position to succeed. Right now, down big when Michigan can bring a ton of pressure is putting him a really bad spot with likely limited reps.

No, the biggest joke is Diaz and his D. We're giving up 400 yards on the ground. This is an absolute disgrace. Diaz and MY absolutely suck.
