Grad transfer Carr

A D2 AA, whose best alternative offers were to walk on at Boise State, Nevada, and Northwestern (who should know more about his genes than any other program).

I hope the kid makes 100 catches and PSU wines 15 games in the bargain. That combination isn't likely to happen.
Maybe other schools do not have available scholarships. No use going into the season with 82 on scholarship. Take 1 year players for experience or depth.

So 120 odd schools in FBS don't have available scholarships? Mkay.

I have no problem with PSU giving him a scholarship. I have a bit of a problem proclaiming him the best thing since canned beer til he demonstrates that he is.

Are those his grad transfer options or options out of high school?
Options out of high school. Young man admitted he wasn't ready for D1 at that point in his life. Kids develop at different rates. He might very well be a late bloomer. There are more than a few D2 players in the NFL. PSU has nothing to lose.....depth left (transfer portal) and depth is coming in.

There were 83 Division 2 players on NFL rosters in 2018. There are 14 Div 2 wide receivers on NFL rosters as of 2018.

Carr was a Div 2 all american. You catch 167 passes for 3,005 yards and 36 touchdowns in three seasons, you are an NFL prospect. WR Tyreek Hill has been to multiple pro bowls, WR Adam Thielen is one of the better players in the NFL. Both Division 2 guys.

There are no guarantees. But this Carr kid can play, and I'll bet he has an impact at Penn State.

He must've been talking to wrong NFL scouts then, the ones that told him to go back to school. Either that r the scouts didn't know to whom they were talking.

BTW, Tyreek Hill was on scholarship at Oklahoma State before being kicked off the team. Wound up at West Alabama because he didn't want to sit out a year (with only one year of eligibility remaining) and there weren't many places that would take him due to his legal issues.

Super. Go through the other 13 Division 2 wide receivers on NFL rosters. EIGHTY THREE DIVISION TWO PLAYERS ON NFL ROSTERS. If you can play, you can play.

Also, he barely played the last 6 games last year because of a hamstring injury. And an NFL scout saying he'd benefit from performing well on a power 5 team isn't a knock against Carr.

Who said that? You listed other walk-on offers but omitted interest from Kentucky, which casts doubt on the veracity of your information overall.

Oh, I see, I'm supposed to list all interest someone receive in order to make what I write have "veracity." Should I publish his meal schedule and menu? When he takes a dump? I really need to know because it's so important to me that I live up to your standards.

I thought it was the opposite for Holmes. Good run blocker but isn’t moving his feet quick enough yet for pass blocking.?
Potential is very high though.

Thorpe has been mentioned as a powerful run blocker, but weak at pass protection. But that was a year or two old assessment.

Both of them.

Fries has 2 years of experience, and it is the nature of college football that most players need some experience to develop into better than average players for top 20 teams. Especially olinemen. It's not like PSU will have to start 2 true freshmen 2-star OT's this coming year. Walker is the youngest candidate of the 4 (Walker, Fries, Holmes, Whigan), but reportedly the most physically talented. So even though we don't have a clear idea as to the performance level to expect, I just don't see the sky as falling. With Walker, Fries and Holmes all having been developed by Limegrover for multiple years, and the addition of a talented JC player, I'm pretty excited for the possibility of improved OT play this season. And with Menet and Gonzo anchoring the inside, along with Miranda and Thorpe who have had a chance to learn the college game and mature physically, PSU looks to have a great chance to see improved OL play.

I don’t care what you do. I’m simply pointing out what your previous posts reveal.

His brother played WR at Northwestern, led the B1G in receiving in '16 and is currently on the Saints.

Weston's brother, Austin, was also a late bloomer (walk-on), who saw some action his JR year, but really didn't blossom until his SR season.

If Weston is anything like his brother, it'll be his ability to get space from DBs (even w/o top flight speed) and his hands that will get him playing time.

in this thread, the only thing that is strange is the lack of interest by NW. Fitz has had a gold mine from unheralded players who made impacts for the Cats. given that one of those players was this guy's brother it was odd they did not want him. we have far more talent at WR than NW, so it does seem strange they did not want this guy - maybe it is they didnt have scholarship room and we do. either way, our new WR coach seems to be someone who knows talent, so trust his judgment here.

we would all want an impact player at DT or OT from the the transfer group, but those are the same positions everyone else wants - and if they were that good they would be headed to the NFL if they were eligible - not another CFB team.

Watch his Hudl film I linked above. He is very good at highpointing the ball.

I have a couple of posters blocked because they are argumentative types who ruin thread after thread. I am getting really good at picking out who they are without even having to read their posts.

You don’t strike me as a canned beer kind of guy.

Funny that you bring that up. Recently, for some reason, the majority of craft beers that seem interesting are in cans. Prefer bottles, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Cans are cheaper, simpler and preserve the beer better. The first two obviously the more important thing for a lot of craft breweries

He may not have the academic credentials to qualify for any of NW graduate programs. Probably a stretch for us, also, but we have a lot more options, even in Physical Education related areas.

The whole graduate transfer thing is mostly a farce from an academic point. Yes, a few will use it to actually pursue a graduate degree. However, I would say most GT's enroll, attend classes during football season, keep their academic eligibility, then leave to pursue their life's work before the next semester begins.

I hope some "graduate transfer" does his research on what happens to the GT's after football. Will be very interesting.

Seems like franklin is committed to putting the best receivers he can get on the field and is giving no promises to seniority. One of these transfers is going to start.

I bet this guy starts, actually. Shorter will be the starter on one side with Campbell backing him up, Carr on the other side with Dotson backing him up, and Hamler in the slot.
Dotson will start.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Carr has what Franklin says Dotson needs to develop, a Big Ten body and ability to create separation. Those seem to be Carr’s specialties.

If Dotson is having trouble creating separation, that is disappointing based on what we've seen of him on film. I would not have expected that.

Bottom line, if Carr has a big body, runs good routes, and has reliable hands, give him a shot. This need not be complicated.

Didn’t stop Dotson last year when he played. I think he’s the best WR on the team.

I like Art but sometimes he can be a gigantic prig. And this thread is exhibit 1. In a desperate attempt to show the breadth of his knowledge on every subject, he simply won't allow people to express positive thoughts on a new player without trying to drag this new kid down. Who cares if some people might be overly optimistic about this new WR? It's all speculation. Some are speculating from an optimistic perspective and Art is speculating from a pessimistic perspective. It's just opinion. We'll find out soon enough who was right.

I have faith in Franklin and am confident in his ability to access talent. Art is free to post his opinions, most are very good, but again, I will defer to JF's track record with talent.

It always good that Franklin has or goes aggressive on a Plan B if needed, worst case scenario, Carr can help on Special Teams

So if I have an opinion which isn't all sweetness and light, I'm a "giant prig?" At least when I express an opinion, I attempt to back it with something substantive, which in your mind is "a desperate attempt to show the breadth of his knowledge on every subject." There are a myriad of positive opinions people express on a range of subjects on which I don't comment, but somehow I won't allow them. Or do I have to sprinkle holy water them by indicating agreement to get with the program?

Tell you what, don't like me if it creates such emotional conflict for you.

Must be a late April Fools deal. With our WR talent CJF if bringing in a WR from some place called Azusa Pacific??????

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Is this a real place????

Maybe coming to help the Jonas brothers....

Well,
Jerry rice went to Mississippi Valley State
Andre Reed went to Kutztown
Marques Colston went to Hofstra
Shannon Sharpe went to Savannah State
Donald Driver went to Alcorn State
Antonio Gates went to Kent State
Terrell Owens went to UT-Chattanooga

It's DII, but Carr is a DII All-American while facing double teams on most plays. He has good size (6'2"). His brother is Austin Carr, who played for Northwestern and currently plays on Sundays in NOLA. Will his DII success translate to the P5? Will he be a star? IDK, but this isn't exactly as big a stretch as you try to make it.
