Greg Kerkvliet Listed on PSU website

Didn't Cael Say Snacks is wrestling tommarrow night? Why would you burn a guys shirt if you didnt intend to use him down the stretch?

Cortez was on the roster when he wasn't eligible in 2015-2016. You are on the team, you just can't compete in a PSU singlet.

Everyone on the roster is eligible to wrestle in some form either start, wrestle attached or wrestle unattached so I guess kerkvliet and busiello are also if needed.
 
Should we read anything into Kerkvliet being on the roster but supposedly on ORS while Manville is not on the roster and also on ORS? In other words, can ORS's be on rosters? If not, perhaps it's as simple as the website updater jumping the gun with excitement. (I suppose we could relate to that. :))

Yes I believe that was his whole point. OP was speculating that Kerk being on the roster may mean he's eligible. Turk was saying that burning Nevills' shirt wouldn't make sense if Kerk was going to ultimately be the guy.

I feel like the CDT article mentioned Kerk was really dialed in to qualifying for the Olympics. I also seem to recall there was some contention at tOSU about whether he would start this year or not (Ryan wanted him to, he wanted to focus on freestyle). Some or all of this may be completely false, but that's what's rattling around in my head.

My $0.02: I think it'd be folly to burn 2 redshirts of this caliber in the same weight in the same year when they already have a lot of overlap ahead of them. Does Kerk have higher upside than Seth? Maybe. But Seth is a stud. Let's enjoy watching his chance to shine, shall we?

The Kerk situation at tOSU was he wanted to wrestle right away and the staff wanted him to shirt and I thought it was mentioned by Flo or something like that that there was also a disagreement about possible knee surgery. From what I can recall Kerk did not want it and tOSU was maybe pushing for it. Who knows, in the end he is here and he is an age group world medalist and has a good chance at being our Olympic rep. They do not come along all that often... Wait, this is PSU, it happens here a lot;)

Kerk has all ready qualified, so there's that.i'm sure if kerk shirt is pulled it's because Seth is injured wink wink ,nudge nudge.
 
My guess would be Kyle Snyder means more than any other noise.
Gee, I wonder who he might be training with.
 
Unless I’m wrong a wrestler is always on the roster unless there is a deferment like Military or ORS. He’s on the team so...on the roster. That doesn’t mean he’s starting, but he could. He just isn’t going to at this point.

Well if you consider the next 3-4 years "down the stretch," it seems Cael already doesn't plan on "using" Nevills.

For all we know Nevills will go both this year and next and Kirk could redshirt next year. Practically that might be difficult but strategically maybe it makes sense, especially if you believe next year's Iowa team is an even bigger favorite. Maybe next year someone like Nick Lee shirts and Busiello goes 141, or maybe for RBY? Otherwise Busiello looks tenuous for a at least another year. I see he is listed 149, have at it kid, but I don't see it this year in terms of both experience and physique.

The part I didn't understand is I thought ORS kids can't be listed on the roster a la Mason.

As rmg wrote above, the rumor at least is that part of the reason for the transfer was he wanted to wrestle right away, so seems unlikely he will RS next year IMO.

and... Kemerer is going to duck under some of his competition dates.

P.S. Kemerer isn't ducking anybody and I have a ton of respect for the young man but I need something that was applicable.

I’d think there are a LOT of possibilities between 141 and 149 next year among Lee, Verk, Gardner, Busiello, Bartlett and Pipher.

Don’t know about that but I hope our coaches are prepared to “Mongolian” the refs at Carver if things get squirrelly during the Iowa dual.
