Hamler route

Now you see me, now you don't.

Ethan Zobelle / The League

Kid needs to be wayyyyy more involved in the offense, IMO

Reverses, bubble screens, and crossing routes would be awesome to get him in space

I agree. Even if the plays don't work, it keeps the defense honest because they have to make sure to keep enough guys in his area -- he'll beat anyone one on one in space.

Incredibly talented and gifted as K.J. Hamler is, I believe that in the course of the football season his teammate Jahan Dotson will display similar and uniquely eye-popping receiving talent. This combination of quarterback and receivers will, I believe, be forever etched in the minds of Penn State faithful. So be prepared to enjoy the new level of football frolic and near perfection execution. If only we could retain similar skill sets in future incoming QBs.

They ran a replay on BTN were Hamler broke open for what would have been like a 60 yard TD, but Trace to not go his way- going to be a big deep threat all his time at PSU.

My concern watching his high school film was that he didn't make sharp enough cuts and he wasn't sudden enough (remember Devon Smith?) But he is showing that he has the potential to be great. I don't want to get too carried away with just one game but it was certainly promising.

The fact that he was able to run more than 3 yards without tripping over a blade of grass should have ended any comparison you thought of with Devon Smith.

Love Dotson, especially yards after catch. He’s very elusive, a phone booth type.

He outran 3 angles on that kickoff return. Literally looked like Cliff Branch back in the day. The only thing that kept it from going all the way was the kicker and another player waiting for him to box him in. Had they not been there, he was gone. Three players had him dead to rights and he just flew by them like they were standing still. If there is a faster player in college football I have not seen him. Not kidding either, and including everyone in the SEC.
Oh by the way, that was NFL 1st or 2nd round draft pick Clifton Duck who he burned like toast on that TD catch. Same guy who locked up Thompkins and JJ in the first half.

See him in HS?
Cuz none of us have seen him in a game yet, and most likely won’t this year, barring injuries to the three slot guys ahead of him.

Yes. High school Hudl videos. The punt returns display the elusiveness I mentioned. The rest, he’s just too good for the defenses he faced. Dotson is also a damn good passer.
