Has a future first-round NFL QB draft pick ever lost to Vanderbilt?

The reality is that neither Clifford or Levi’s are world beaters.
I would probably take Levi’s, but neither are all that aware.

It's well documented that Levis is injured but he's not doing himself any favors by trying to play through it. He's also hurting the team at this point by trying to play through it.

His OL is awful.

His progressions and pocket clock are not very good.

He's at his best improvising and being mobile. Otherwise, he's always been a subpar, below average QB.

I hope he gets paid well.

How about a list of top QBs that were not top picks? 198 players, 6 QBs, were picked ahead of Tom Brady. He was the GOAT without even being a great runner or scrambler. Great size and arm strength combined with being able to think on the football field.

I think what they like in Levis is his rate of improvement, leadership qualities coming in as a transfer, demeanor, and physical measures. That speaks to what is between his ears. He seems able to make all of the throws, something we did not see during his time in mop up duty at PSU. He will get more accurate.

Levis came in and helped lift a program. That's different than a great program granting easy success. He won't be a Johnny Football cancer. He will be tonic.

If he can make all the throws, when’s he going to start doing it…he isn’t making all the throws at Kentucky.

Who was the last college QB that actually made all the throws while in school? Most show it at a combine. Even someone like Trevor Lawrence had huge question marks.
Andrew Luck? Deshaun Watson?

Well he was 11 for 23 for 109 yards and a pick. QB rating of 18.2 against Vandy. Sounds like first round stuff to me.
The draft isn't based on results--it's based on potential. Maybe it should be based more on results but why are people ignoring the fact he's playing through about 3 different injuries? Has anyone here watch Kentucky play more than once this year or just reading box scores?

And Clifford was 12 for 23 for 139, a TD and no picks in a 30-0 win and the same fans lauding Levis are calling for Clifford to be benched….strange. And Clifford’s season stats are better as well.

I only want to "bench" Clifford because I think we should be preparing Allar for next year. Clifford hasn't been bad at all this year.

I have watched Kentucky several times this year. Haven’t seen anything to impress me. Any GM who drafts solely on potential will soon be looking for a new job. Only thing Levis has shown is a strong arm. Poor pocket presence (maybe worse than Clifford), doesn’t make secondary reads, etc. Levis will get drafted because of his strong arm, but I will be surprised if he succeeds in the NFL.

I'm fine with that assessment but you and I both know that arm strength will get you draft. Levis also as the size and athleticism teams are looking for. He has the Colts written all over him if they don't get Stroud or Young.

I've said numerous times I don't think any QB in this class will live up to the hype. Stroud can't read a defense and Young is underwhelming even surrounded by elite talent. They're all flawed but teams are desperate. See the Steelers taking Pickett in the first. He was at best a late 2. And Willis should have been a late 3 day project but he went 86 (I think) overall. Teams reach for QBs and one probably will reach for Levis unless someone come out of nowhere and joins the discussion.

Just finished watching the UNC/Wake game. I'd take either of those QB's over either Clifford or Levis for leading PSU, as a COLLEGE QB.

Maybe some NFL coach can get Levis to be a successful NFL QB, but what PSU needs is a college QB that makes good decisions, is accurate with his throws, and is smart and durable with runs.

At this point why would any one have great confidence that Allar can be the decision maker and game manager PSU needs to take the next step? He has all the potential in the world, and hopefully he has the moxy to use it and emerge as PSU's next big winning QB. I'd have liked to find that out this season, as after the first 3 years of starting at PSU Clifford did not seem good enough to take PSU to the playoff. But the uncertainty of new players along with the turnover and development of young players is what makes college football, and college sports in general, so interesting..... Hopefully Clifford plays well enough to win the next two games and a bowl game against an opponent that will help PSU climb up the top 10. And then we'll see what Allar can do from there.

Well, you can make the throws but a) the OL has to give you and the receivers time to do that and b) the receivers have to run an accurate route and 3) they have to get open.

he’s clearly not a great college QB but he’s better than SC

Maye and Hartman are very good so not much of a hot take.

Folks are already predicting Maye will be the top pick in the 24 draft.

Based on what? His stats don’t show it. He has better potential, but is not currently better. They’re eerily similar in fact. Many PSU fans would take Levis and many UK fans would take Clifford….funny how that works.

I'm not sure many Kentucky fans would take Clifford but I agree their play has been comparable.

They thought they were going 11-1, 10-2 if they slipped at Ole Miss (UGA the obvious 1st loss).

They were salivating at the prospect of bringing in another transfer QB, perhaps a 5* this time.

OL is the 2nd most important position on the field behind DL. They lost 4 starters from the '21 OL (3 were drafted, 1 signed after) and the 5th guy changed from G to C. It has killed their offense, along with losing Robinson (drafted) and Coen (back to NFL).

Can you think of any more excuses for Will “The Thrill”? Didn’t see the game yesterday, but Levis was 11-23 for 109 yards with no TDS and one pick and a QB rating of 18.2 against a team that hasn’t won an SEC game in over 20 straight games. I didn’t realize that PSU’s offensive line is giving Clifford all day to throw and that his receivers all play like Marvin Harrison, Jr. Levis hasn’t done a damn thing to demonstrate that he is a better COLLEGE QB than Clifford.

Did you look at Sean’s stats from yesterday? You should

Michael Penix Jr. from Washington throws an equally good ball, but seems to be much more aware in the pocket and seems to see the field better. Really impressed with him last night against Oregon, who although not a great defense, forced Washington to score to beat the Ducks.

They were better than Levis’s and Levis played against Vandy. Look at their stats for the year, very similar but Clifford’s are better.

Lol. We played against MD. They sucked and generated zero offense. vandy moved the ball

I am not saying he is a first round pick, never did. Just that he’s better than SC

Wait--are you making the argument that an injured Levis is comparable to Clifford?

If Levis is injured, he shouldn’t be playing. Have any more excuses you’d like to offer for him? What was his excuse when he fumbled twice in the late stages of the Ole Miss game in a very winnable game?

I agree he shouldn't be playing and it's not only hurting his stock but his team. Not an excuse--reality. There's no excuse for the fumbles.

Both Levis and Clifford are not very good. Average at best. Difference is Clifford will be lucky to make a practice squad and Levis is somehow the next Dan Marino.
