Has Penn State ever played a "smaller program" like GASt at night?

It's odd for Penn State to be kicking off against GASt at 7:30 p.m. I don't recall how this happened, but has Penn State ever played a "smaller program" under the lights? It seems likely that there will be a lot of empty seats. How many people who normally make a day trip for a game will do it for a night game against GASt?

On a side note, with GASt being in Atlanta, I had wondered if Irma would affect their travel to State College. However, it looks now as though Irma will skirt to the west and not so heavily affect Atlanta.

I thought we played Temple at night (at the Beav). I could be wrong, though. I'd expect more of this--extra programming for the BTN.

Rutgers.

Penn State played temple at The Vet at night in 1988. I was there. Have they ever played temple at home at night? On a side note, that '88 game was a Penn State home game by virtue of the crowd make-up.

In starting this thread, I remembered the '88 temple game, however, I don't consider temple such a "smaller program".

:D

See my previous post. I was going to state non-P5-programs in my original post, but then I remembered the '88 temple game, and temple isn't the smaller sort of program that I was thinking about.

Temple is a smaller program. Not a smaller school, but a smaller program.

And the eye of the storm IRMA will head west of Atlanta, but the majority of rain will be to the north and east.

OK, trivia question....when was the last time Penn State played two teams with the nickname "Panthers" in back-to-back weeks?

Florida International, Eastern Illinois, Prairie View A&M, University of Northern Iowa...? I'm guessing this is the first time.

Pitt?

I think it may have been one of their "superbowls".

Temple is not. Rutgers certainly is. Georgia State is an FBS School and has had a better record over the past 2 years than Rutgers. In 2015 GS even went to a bowl game (Cure Bowl played in Citris Bowl Stadium) and lost to San Jose State 27-16.

I thought there was a limit on night games in the B1G...am I wrong or has that been changed? We've got GA St and Iowa at night. we still have to schedule Indy, Sparty, UM, NEB and MD.

Now I have to flip between the Canelo v Golovkin fight and the game. (Or at least the under card bouts and he game.) Thanks, BTN. Hope I don't sprain my thumb!!! Better get training.

Schools have very little say in starting times. It's all determined by the TV partners - ABC/ESPN/Fox/BTN. They divvy up the games according to a predetermined contract and tell the schools when they will kick-off. The schools probably have some input on whether or not they would play on a Thursday or Friday, but the Saturday games are determined by TV and the networks will give zero consideration to how many night games the schools may have already had, the temperatures, or any other factor the fans may consider when choosing whether or not to attend the game.

I think the idea for playing GA St. at night is to get more exposure for Penn State down in Geirgia and if a noon game it would just be swallowed up by the sea of other noon games involving teams in the southeast. Of course, there is other competition for viewers in the southeast on Saturday night:

Colorado State at (1) Alabama 7:00 pm ESPN or ESPN2 / Tickets
(12) LSU at Mississippi State 7:00 pm ESPN or ESPN2 / Tickets
Oregon at Wyoming 7:00 pm CBSSN / Tickets
Georgia State at (4) Penn State 7:30 pm BTN / Tickets
Georgia Tech at UCF 7:30 pm ESPNews / Tickets
Kentucky at South Carolina 7:30 pm SECN / Tickets
Samford at (15) Georgia 7:30 pm SECN Alt. / Tickets
(3) Clemson at (17) Louisville 8:00 pm ABC / Tickets

Rutgers 1993 as well. That was a very wet game.

Rutgers was actually coming off a 7-4 season, w/ wins over all of VT, WVU and Pittsburgh - so they somewhat deserved the night game (prime-time broadcast on ESPN).
