For me, it is irretrievable. Sorry.

The stole it away when the started charging for parking at a certain remote lot over near Grad Circle, and advertised the location. For decades, that had more or less been a "secret location" where we met up with friends we had not seen for a long time. They ruined it. So very many of us were displaced. Sort of a STEP for parking. And, I will never forget. Fug 'em.

To each their own, for sure.

But I do not think I will ever be able to understand:

improve in-stadium wifi.....the need (or desire) to pay $100 or more for a ticket, take a day to go to the game, and then spend the time there looking at a four inch screen on one's phone, or chatting with someone hundreds of miles away (as opposed to the folks sitting next to youat the game).

get rid of the bleachers and add seats.....costs a lot of money to retro-fit, costs a lot of money in reduced # of tickets available for sale. Sounds like a Tsunami Barbour "WINNER"!

sell beer.....aside from failing to see the appeal of paying $8 for a lukewarm Bud Light, no comment.

ill try to help you understand....unlike some of you on here, I enjoy ALL of college football so I like to be caught up on the other games during the MANY TV timeouts and other dead periods during the game. Also, I would like wifi to keep in touch with friends/family that I may be trying to meet after the game, or that is watching the game also. In additional benefit to this is the tons of free publicity PSU is missing out on by having 100,000 people not be able to post pictures etc from the event.

2nd- ive witnessed at many games people jammed in like sardines in bleacher seats and when an "over-weight" person tries to get in and out of a row it is a nightmare. another problem here is when it is the end of a quarter or halftime you could by waiting multiple minutes just to get to the restroom.

3rd- I enjoy drinking with friends and if I'm going to pay $100 or more to watch a team struggle to run a play, id love to be slightly buzzed with a cold one in my hand.

Have a public execution at halftime for each game. One 2011 BoT member, who chooses the short straw, get to be the honored recipient on an excursion into the hereafter and one lucky fan in attendance gets his seat number called to pull the lever on the gallows. ;)

Instead of each halftime, I propose the same execution at each tv timeout!

How about playing an OOC opponent from a Power 5 school? Our OOC schedule is vomit and has been for over a decade.

Can't like this enough.... Let's bring in some SEC schools or Big 12 schools... Even Pac 10 ... Would love to see PSU play Bama/LSU/etc.... Bring in Okie or Oregon or USC from out west. The OOC schedule is and has been putrid for years now.

Like I said....to each his own

I must not have been giving a lot of weight to the impact of those thousands of folks sitting around their computers waiting to view Instragram photos from people who are at the game (as opposed to - maybe - just watching the damn game on the Teli). What a missed opportunity :) (FWIW, I almost always find it useful to use my cell to "meet up with" folks before and/or after the game - - - and have NEVER had any trouble getting through from anywhere in or around the stadium. Maybe the big spenders need to upgrade to one of them thar' fancy Apple celularized telephonies?

Maybe I also forgot about the "chairback" seats that are available - a few between the 30's, the club section, the south end zone, the suites, and the lower portion of the north deck).....for anyone who wants to pony up the extra cash, and values the ability to not be squished like sardines by a "fat guy in the row".
It would be far better - obviously - to incur an annual cost of $15 million per year (and who knows how much for one-time renovations) so that everyone could have chairbacks seats - FOR FREE!!! (just like a Bernie Sanders college education :) )

Of course, I also am undervaluing the benefit of having a bunch of "slightly buzzed" MENSA members sucking down warm $8 Bud Lights sitting next to me. Silly me

:)

Better bathrooms, food, and real seats with cup holders instead of bleachers. More blue band during breaks, fewer in stadium commercials. Get rid of the cheerleader with the microphone - Are you ready for Penn State Football? It's a rhetorical question.

In no specific order.

- Join the ACC
- Better opponents but no more games against Pitt unless joining the ACC. They don't deserve to play Penn State.
- More Blue Band, less pre-recorded noise masquerading as music over the PA.
- Fix concessions. Send someone from the athletic department to Boulder for a game or two to take notes.
- No ads what so ever on the jumbo trons.
- Less ads in the stadium.
- Fewer presentations during TV timeouts, between quarters etc.
- Stop messing with the parking.
- Reasonable ticket prices.
- Reorient the student section back to the way it used to be.

Agree but no more SEC schools. The Big Ten plays too many of them during bowl season. Head westward. I would go to a road game every year if they actually played somewhere I haven't been or would like to go to.

I am fine with a home and home against a west coast team. Ucla/Usc/Oregon all would be great to play. I will never forget the atmosphere in the stadium when Arizona came to PSU for that early season match up. Stadium was buzzing with an early season big time match up in '99 with a #3 vs. #4

Regarding the Blue Band......now that Greg Drane is the new director, any word on changes he might make? I think he started as a grad assistant in the early 2000's and helped with the whole "Greatest Show in College Football" thing as far as the Blue Band was concerned.

Interesting

FWIW, I agree with just about every suggestion listed above......"agree" meaning that I think it would "enhance the experience"

However, how many folks have even given a passing glance as to what the economic impact would be - - - ie, how much higher would ticket prices have to be?

Some of the ideas would be "free"....and it is just a matter of whether or not the consensus is Aye or Nay (and whether or not the Tsunami Gang could properly implement the changes......oops :) )

I haven't studied all of them (and some, I would either have no idea how to estimate, or it would be impossible to estimate without more details)....but, just on the ones where I can make pretty sound estimates, we would be looking at tickets prices (all in costs, including the donations and all) that would have to at least double.

How many folks would be willing to plunk down twice the current amount for tickets - in order to fulfill their "wish list"? And commit to purchasing tickets to every game, every year?

Obviously, you can't just pick and choose the "enhancements that matter to you", or the "particular games that you want to attend".

Nice, original, really dark thoughts....
although, I would prefer quality over quantity.

Another option would be to eliminate a few varsity sports that will never carry their own weight. Start with the swimming and gymnastics teams. Huge overhead due to specialized facilities and equipment.

At the risk of exposing my ignorance and becoming a target for many of you, how hard/expensive is it to have decent wifi? Hell, every podunk bar in the country has it, don't they? OK, I get that it might need to be more powerful to handle an entire stadium but that shouldn't be too much, should it? Put up some solar panels to power it - you only need it 8 times a year. Heck, make it a project for IT majors. Fire away.

The budget for most of the "minor" sports - - - like Swimming and Gymnastics - - - is about equal to what the football team spends on Hotel Rooms.....for HOME games.

Try again.

guest you will be staying at home!!!
why do you need WiFi if you watching the game?
can not replace bleachers with chair backs without tearing down stadium to make room for chair backs
if you have been parking lot since 8 AM, why do you need more beer?

It is about $5k per access point (that includes all labor/setup). Cowboys stadium has 500 for reference, which I believe is the most out of any stadium.

Edit:

Just read an article that said Giants AT&T baseball stadium has over 800, and I've never had good experience with their wifi.

Wifi for an entire outdoor stadium is very difficult and it constantly needs to be updated/worked on and monitored.

What did you do before WiFi?
2nd: HUH???? Silly complaint, like chair back seats will alleviate this problem.
3rd: stay in the parking lot or even better stay at home with your friends and drink!

So you want Penn State to put winning above all else?

Simply stating the desire to "win" doesn't necessarily mean at the expense of things like honor and academics, particularly in PSU circles. But winning is the single thing that would most enhance game days. The seats would be full, the fans would be loud and energetic. When that is happening little things like wifi and bathroom lines are more easily overlooked.

How are we supposed to get a recruit if he can't post his selfie during a game though?

But seriously, people under estimate the value of social media and the ability to post immediately. PSU as a brand suffers as well, which I believe someone already noted.

For instance a kid is deciding between PSU and OSU. He is sitting at home on a Saturday watching college football and obviously has his iPhone in his hand and sees all his other friends posting pictures from their visit at OSU but isn't seeing anything from his friends on visits at PSU. That is a negative impact to PSU.

I know a lot of the elderly fans don't quite grasp this, but its 100% the real world.....

And then you'll reply back "if a kid is worried about that, we don't want him", then on 10/23 you'll say "why did OSU kill us again".

Retro fitting wifi to an older stadium certainly isn't trivial and comparing a massive stadium to a small bar isn't in the same universe. The signal quality, range and interference is going to be greatly impacted by the structure itself, lots of testing would be required to determine where to put the access points and routers to ensure reliable coverage throughout the stadium. Now if you are building something brand new, such as at Baylor, you can incorporate it into the design to help minimize signal barriers making it a bit easier.
