How does PSU enhance the gameday atmosphere?

Nice, original, really dark thoughts....
although, I would prefer quality over quantity.

We're talking the BOT here.....there is no quality, only quantity. Execute one at each tv timeout, all the bastards are gone in one good afternoon by halftime!

Simply stating the desire to "win" doesn't necessarily mean at the expense of things like honor and academics, particularly in PSU circles. But winning is the single thing that would most enhance game days. The seats would be full, the fans would be loud and energetic. When that is happening little things like wifi and bathroom lines are more easily overlooked.
I believe Bob was just being cute with the win thing....you must realize how much Bob hates the
PSU culture :eek::eek:

slow day so thought id start a discussion...

for me its:

improve in-stadium wifi
get rid of the bleachers and add seats
sell beer
Introduce at halftime on the 50 yard line an OGBOT member every game. That ensuing tsunami of booing will ensure the crowd responds with the appropriate amount of vitriol for the second half of games. In turn the crowd noise will motivate our team.

How are we supposed to get a recruit if he can't post his selfie during a game though?

But seriously, people under estimate the value of social media and the ability to post immediately. PSU as a brand suffers as well, which I believe someone already noted.

For instance a kid is deciding between PSU and OSU. He is sitting at home on a Saturday watching college football and obviously has his iPhone in his hand and sees all his other friends posting pictures from their visit at OSU but isn't seeing anything from his friends on visits at PSU. That is a negative impact to PSU.

I know a lot of the elderly fans don't quite grasp this, but its 100% the real world.....

And then you'll reply back "if a kid is worried about that, we don't want him", then on 10/23 you'll say "why did OSU kill us again".
I agree. Simple solution is a couple of secure routers that the recruits are given the password for access before games.

.

Not....sure....if....serious.

Is this a "just kidding"?
Or has an apocalypse of "stupid" descended upon us?

I understand the wifi thing, not necessarily for chatting with people. You can learn things from social media that you don't know when you're sitting at the stadium by following reporters' social media accounts. For example, in 2012 when Mauti was injured in the IU game, we learned the prognosis on Twitter. You can also learn about things that are happening that you might not notice from the stands like X player is on the sideline in warm ups.

Ummm stink you have no clue...the post by Brad was spot on. How old are you anyway?
That " we are going to lose recruits to OSU because their buddies are tweeting them from OSU, but not PSU" is so profoundly stupid, on so many levels, that it boggles the mind

Maybe, if I have time, I will list just a half-dozen or so of the reasons it is profoundly stupid.......but maybe not - since anyone who can't see that for themselves is well beyond "redemption"

What is OSU's WiFi like? Fu@k WiFi. Play some REAL teams!

His point was that it matters...maybe you are too old or naive to understand that but it would help the game day experience which is what we were talking about

LOL

Maybe you're too young and stupid to see all the "fallacy" in that silly statement? Maybe?

"Slow down sonny.....I'm gonna chase you down in my hover round and dump my colostomy bag on you. You smart-aleck whippersnapper!"

Eliminate WIFI completely
Please don't sell beer in the stadium

The biggest single improvement I would like to see is updating the restrooms.

Playing a great OOC team once a decade isn't enough. We as fans should demand one power 5 OOC game every year and I would sign him for one P5 home and one P5 away every year.
Unless you are willing to kick in the missing $10-15 million....... No way that can happen, not with the new 9 game B1G schedule
Hopefully, (most) people can "do the math" and realize that.....I'm not going to take the time to walk through it again

Just one more of the WONDERFUL benefits of Jim Delaney's brilliant expansion move.......which somehow was not apparent to the unwashed masses. :)

Your point is valid but we did play #1 Bama in Joe's final year.

Alabama was an awesome opponent but we're not ready to put them back on the schedule. Since the sanctions we lost to Ohio and Temple. We didn't need a tougher schedule through the sanction years.

Even now our schedule is very strong. Pitt is favored to beat us this year and we also play UM (#5), OSU (#3), Iowa (#19), and MSU (#13). I don't understand the complaint about strength of schedule, especially now that we've got 9 conference games.

You're confusing overall schedule with OOC schedule. The OOC schedule sucked before anyone ever heard of Louis Freeh.

Regarding stadium wi-fi: I would just like to be able to listen to the play by play on my cell phone. Without play by play it's easy to miss what happened on some plays. I think the fans in attendance should have that information just like the fans watching on TV.

More chair backs will probably be part of the renovation.

Don't need an $8 beer after hours of drinking in the parking lot.

The biggest thing to improve the atmosphere:
  1. Win!
  2. Acknowledge our past (don't pretend like 409 never happened).

I'm not confusing anything. All of those opponents play at Beaver Stadium on alternate years. Not too many teams face OSU, UM, & MSU every year and teams like Iowa, Nebraska, & Wisconsin on rotation. That's about as tough as it gets in conference. We only have 3 OOC games and this year one of those is Pitt. You might not think much of Pitt but they're certainly not Appalachian State.

I might agree with your point if we still had 4 OOC games and our division didn't include OSU, UM, and MSU. But that's not the case and I think our schedule is plenty difficult.

Stink often has no clue.

Back to the OP question, I would like a new PA announcer. The current one makes my ears bleed.

Try going to a basketball game. Somewhere along the line we confused energy with pure noise, both at basketball and football. I remember the Hali sack/fumble at the end of the OSU game in 05 and how loud it was in Beaver but it was situationally appropriate. You can't just re-create it, it has to be organic. We try to create noise for its own sake which defeats the purpose sometimes. Everything is too loud all the time and I'm sure it's done in some misguided effort to create a hostile atmosphere but just let the action dictate when the place goes bananas, not the t-shirt toss. I wear earplugs to basketball it's so loud, and it's all the arena announcer, brother Brown being mic'd up too loud that is the problem, certainly not the crowd noise. Near the end of halftime he'll go into his spiel for all the advertisers and it is ear-splitting and headache inducing.

So call me an old fogey, whatever, I get it. You want to blow the roof off the place and scream for t-shirts have at it. I complain too much anyway but this is a legit, trying to be constructive, criticism. Now I'll shut up about it.

I can't tell if he is 50+ because he has no clue on the importance of social media, or if he is 15 by the way he writes.

You don't even have basic reading comprehension skills. I said a negative impact, I never said we would ultimately lose a recruit.

Judging by others reactions towards you, this will be my last response to you.

Wallace Breen, "Another option would be to eliminate a few varsity sports that will never carry their own weight. Start with the swimming and gymnastics teams. Huge overhead due to specialized facilities and equipment."

Swimming - ha - "huge overhead due to specialized facilities" like the indoor pool that was built in the mid-60's and are the same pools used by all students on campus? .

Mic man should have been taken behind the figurative barn a long, long time ago, it's dreadful.
I agree about the contemporary version of Mic Man.

However, back in the day, when we students used to come in way, way before the game, the Mic Man and the little shows put on by the cheerleaders were great for the time preceding kick offs. But, the mic never went to the whole stadium, just the student section. Just for us.

This need to broadcast the Mic Man to the whole stadium is a conceptual fail...a sign of our times.

What "negative impact" can you have in recruiting that DOESN'T ultimately involve not landing a recruit? If you land all of the recruits that you otherwise would have - - - is there a "negative impact" to recruiting?

Intellectual retardation run amok

LMAO

Kids.
