How would you improve Penn State's WHITEOUT atmosphere?

The team should wear their white away unis and the blue band should have special white uniforms as well.

Also only fair skinned swedish and iclandic blondes in the stands no african
Or we could crank it up another level, like the Diner en Blanc crowd. All white EVERYTHING.

Of that happened I would switch sides and become a feckless Erickson fan and advocate the program should be shut down

Screaming loudly from the time the opponents offense finishes 2nd down to the beginning of 3rd down. Enough of this silence shit when the opponent gains 6 yards. Stand up and throat it out and if the old guy behind you complains scream louder.
But I get a serious head rush when I scream loudly for too long...getting old sux sometimes

I think PSU should come up with a new parking plan that puts 15,000 cars on Atherton street .... wait ...
Just read where South Atherton from Curtin to Westerly Parkway is going to be under construction for the next 2-3 years starting in the Spring of 2022. So we have that to look fwd to

A 2-year-long roadwork project is poised to hit South Atherton Street in State College next spring — and is expected to cause significant traffic congestion, with detours at various times and crews working overnight at points.

Officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation addressed the State College Borough Council on Monday to present the long-anticipated project, which is set to occur on South Atherton Street between Curtin Road and Westerly Parkway. The state’s work — estimated at $17 million — includes improvements to the drainage network, roadway, traffic signals and pedestrian crossings. It also involves the relocation of several water, gas and sewer lines.

...

According to PennDOT, the project is scheduled to be put up for bid in February. Roadwork is then anticipated to start May 9, 2022, and expected to end in early summer 2024.

The project is part of the full Atherton Street reconstruction, which saw North Atherton improvements completed in spring 2020. It is not yet known if this project will be the final one that Atherton sees from the state. No related Atherton projects are currently scheduled but, PennDOT spokesperson Marla Fannin acknowledged, if more funding becomes available, it’s possible a similar project could be done at a later time and starting where this one ends.

Good. It's about time. Only wish they would have bid it now, with work starting in late winter/early spring (after the PSU National Championship Parade and the associated traffic for that and weather dependent of course) so they can try to make it palatable for next season's football traffic.

It would be good to get an idea of the schedule by the winning bidder, which gets updated every so often (as least we do it that way), so that information can be disseminated to the public. Curious if there will be any supply chain issues - our contractors have had some issues getting the appropriate piping for drainage. We are working on a huge NJDOT project here in South Jersey and it's been a headache for the contractor.

It's easy getting everyone to wear the same color. Now, pulling something off like this? ....

This would get some attention.
Not sure if this was mentioned, but you could do that with Flash Cards. Like the Yale kids did to Harvard ;)

Less piped in music and especially the music that at this time, is cliche.
Gotta stay fresh. I'm just waiting until they start the "every body clap your hands! clap clap clap clap clap "
thing they do at hockey games.

I think the announcer talks way to much and is too loud. Again, people are there for the game and the crowd, let the crowd do its thing.

This ^^.

PSU should use the blue or black lights at the white out. The entire stadium would glow. Lighting seems to be the new trend with Bama and Georgia doing the all red and FSU changing lighting colors in 1 end zone.
I’ve been at Bryant Denny and it’s actually pretty cool if used in moderation. Too much of it, and I can see it getting old fast.

Must have missed this in 2019. But, with the 2021 version fresh in my mind, a couple thoughts, noting this is picking nits at an absurd level. The White Out (or do we write 'Whiteout'?) is near perfection IMO in terms of atmosphere for a college football game and I think they do an amazing job. But, other schools are copying it, some innovating (like Georgia did a while ago with the red lights and now we have blue ones), and we need to have more 'wow' moments I think.

1. Looks very dark on screen compared to previous years; big pockets of shade on the fans and someone mentioned new flood lights being installed. Not sure if other lights are an options, but if so, go back to them.

2. Zombie Nation's Kernkraft 400 IMO is still Penn State's 'signature game song'. I get that it is more limited to TDs and stuff, but I'd use the first minute or so of it (video below) to whip the crowd into a frenzy. It's just pulsing, slowly building, and you could see cheer/dance teams doing a routine to this as it crescendos with the part of the song where the crowd adds their 'oh oh oh oh oh' part and then the team enters. Make it a bit more cinematic; old heads will hate this, recruits will love it:

3. WRT #2, get rid of 7-Nation Army and In The Air Tonight. 7NA is 18 years old now. In the Air Tonight is older (and about divorce) and only good for air drums. New music/chants are desperately needed.

4. I'd like a 'bright white' version of a home uniform (so, basically our away uniform but with some added details; maybe) - go all in on the 'all white everything' and don't let opposing teams try to use our advantage against us (white facemasks from Auburn). LSU was successful in petitioning the NCAA to allow them to wear their white jerseys at home (and I believe the SEC rule is the home team decides what color jersey they will wear) and we should do the same in the B1G. I posted this years ago, but when the men's hockey team had a White Out, they created the 'white rush' uniform to go with it.

Maybe even add a 'metalflake' white color to the helmets a la Oregon?

Georgia's red lights were a nice twist to their "red out." Imagine Beaver Stadium completely covered in black lights, like the locker room. Wonder how that would look on TV.

Also, I emailed Guido like 10 years ago to say the brightness of the WHITEOUT seemed to have gone from a 10 to a 9. He said it was possible as they changed the floodlamps to a more energy efficient bulb.

I don’t think the White out needs major changes- just a new tweak here and there to keep it new.

here’s a vid from what Georgia does. Change the red light to blue and/or black light that would make the white out glow. Take it to the next level.

They could update the music some but I’d stick with the Blue jerseys.

Don't even need to put it out to bid. Just give the contract to criminal enterprise Glenn Hawbecker, because he'll underbid all the competitors and steal the rest from his employees. It would save a year.

That's just Dean being Dean. Feels like people want to hear his voice, and they don't.

Does Hawbraker do PaDoT work? It’s a state highway cirrect? State College Boro is not footing the bill?

Yes. A large amount of PennDOT work. That's correct. This is a PennDOT job.

Last paragraph -

Hawbaker is also defending against a class-action lawsuit brought on by a former employee. In addition to being one of Centre County’s largest employers, Hawbaker is one of the largest contractors to complete projects on behalf of the commonwealth, receiving an estimated $1.7 billion in contracts between 2003 and 2018.
