InterMat had an interesting article looking at how InterMat (Josh Lowe) ranked the AAs at this year's Nationals when they were in HS. You can view the article at THIS LINK.

You can look at any recruiting class, but I decided to focus on 2011, as in most cases this was their last year of eligibility. There were 26 AAs from the class, and 9 of them wrestled in the semis.

Here's a look at them in the order they were ranked by InterMat coming out of the high school, as well as how they did at NCAAs.

2011
1. McIntosh (finished 2nd at 197)
5. Nico (finished 1st at 125)
12. Gwiz (finished 2nd at 285)
15. Dieringer (finished 1st at 165)
22. Austin Marsden (finished 6th at 285)
32. Jade Rauser (finished 8th at 133)
37. Nick Brascetta (finished 3rd at 157)
42. Cody Brewer (finished 3rd at 133)
45. Ian Miller (finished 6th at 157)
49. Nahshon Garrett (finished 1st at 133)
52. Nate Brown (finished 7th at 184)
60. Conor Youtsey (finished 5th at 125)
75. Chris Mecate (finished 5th at 141)
84. Earl Hall (finished 7th at 133)
90. Steve Rodrigues (finished 5th at 165)
Not Ranked
- David Terao (finished 4th at 125)
- Jordan Conaway (finished 6th at 133)
- Mike DePalma (finished 5th at 149)
- Thomas Gantt (finished 8th at 157)
- Austin Wilson (finished 7th at 165
- Anthony Perrotti (finished 8th at 165)
- Cody Walters (finished 7th at 174)
- Matthew Miller (finished 5th at 184
- Nathan Burak (finished 4th at 197)
- Patrick Downey (finished 5th at 197)
- Conner Hartmann (finished 7th at 197)

Not to be picky Tom, Garrett finished 1st @ 33. I know it was an easy mistake.

So stars kinda matter?

Man, I don't think so...only 15 of the Top 100 made it to AA status. Which seems kinda low to me. (Of the 80 possible AA spots)

I do think it's neat to see the 11 guys in this class that were UR coming out of high school make it to AA status, which I think tells me there's a lot that goes on between HS and College in terms of development. And coaching and individual talent play a huge role in this. Some kids obviously fall off after HS. And hopefully Cael is able to find those Jordan Conaway's who are UR and come into the team as a great value (not just talent wise, but in terms of character as well).

Yeah, it would be interesting to see what happened to the other 85 members of the Top 100 from 2011. Some may have gone four straight years without a redshirt and thus were not eligible in 2015-16. And some probably are pretty good college wrestlers but failed to AA. And I suspect a good chunk suffered injury, were academic casualties, or just didn't pan out.

That's just the 2011 class the other 65 AAs are from more recent. I find it interesting the places they finished, UR are 4 th and lower top 100 have firsts, seconds and thirds.

Lowe missed a number of guys by only looking at this year's NCAA Tournament results.

Looking at D1CW, here are some from the HS Class of 2011 who placed at past tourneys:
- Logan Storley (Minnesota)
- Hunter Stieber (Ohio State)
- Mason Beckman (Lehigh)
- Kenny Courts (Ohio State)
- Bryce Hammond (Cal State Bakersfield)
- James Green (Nebraska)
- Evan Henderson (North Carolina)
- Johnni DiJulius (Ohio State)
- Connor Medberry (Wisconsin)
- Dan Neff (Lock Haven)
- Lorenzo Thomas (Penn)
- Vic Avery (Edinboro)

Also in the 2011 HS class: Sasquatch just finished his FR year.

Earl at D1CW does an interesting recruiting rewind, where he re-ranks them according to career points scored at nationals. My guess is that the re-ranking will be 1 Ringer, 2 Gwiz, 3 Nico, 4 Garrett, 5 Smack. Green and Storley close. Too early to tell on Medberry and Sasquatch.
