I like what she had to say about the Pitt situation, and I think she's starting to get Penn State figured out. For the time being, I'm not going to call her that word anymore.

There's also some more of this, but they are behind paywalls.

Care to share?
Umm...my first read of this post led me to think you had "come on Sandy." That's quite a visual I can't get out of my head.I have to say, I'm coming around on Sandy.
I agree, her comments on Pitt were spot on.
There has been so much childish behavior surrounding the Pitt-PSU non-rivalry.
With the game at the Beav, it's an important opportunity for Penn State leadership to set the tone, and I'm glad she is not missing the opportunity.
We don't control the behavior of the small minority of Pitt fans who are just redneck a-holes. But if the grownups in the PSU community do some thinking about what it means to be a grownup, at least PSU's behavior at this game can be the sort of behavior we're proud of instead of ashamed of.
Really part of where Barbour is coming from, probably, is a place of worry. If, say, some drunk PSU students got in a fight with Pitt fans and things got caught on camera -- that would be really bad for the PSU program.
If the grownups set the tone, if the grownups demonstrate what the culture really is, sometimes (not always, but sometimes) the students follow.
What word?I like what she had to say about the Pitt situation, and I think she's starting to get Penn State figured out. For the time being, I'm not going to call her that word anymore.

And putting 50 on their asses would not be a bad thing either!

I honestly don't get the animus that is directed her way. It took me a while to come around on her, but I have a hard time finding fault with anything she has done.

Not to give you a hard time, but it seems that in every sandy discussion, we get a post like yours, which then begs for a recap. Here are few sources ofdiscontentOUTRAGE. for some folks here:
1. She did not have a great track record at Cal. Some people fault her for budgetary issues with the football stadium project. Also, athletic department APRs and graduation rates were not good during her tenure (although some say she was making strides in those areas before her departure).
2. She made a mess out of the PSU men's hockey team wearing 409 helmet stickers a few years ago. A michigan athletic supporter attacked her about it on twitter, and she bought it and made the hockey team remove the stickers.
3. She has significantly expanded the athletic staff at PSU. While I don't think many have tracked personnel salaries, but it is generally believed that she has increased overhead significantly over her predecessors.
Fair enough, but first of all I only care about what has happened since she has been at Penn State so what happened at Cal is irrelevant to me. Nobody is perfect but overall she has been a great advocate for Penn State. She faces a test with the basketball program if Chambers does not show marked improvement this year, but so far I have few complaints.

1. Doesn't impact PSU, not a big deal for us. Past performance isn't necessarily indicative of future results. All this means to me is to keep an eye on how the facilities master plan proceeds just in case some of the same mistakes were to be repeated here. Not to give you a hard time, but it seems that in every sandy discussion, we get a post like yours, which then begs for a recap. 2. Minor issue, not important in the grand scheme of her role.
3. Without knowing how we stack up against our peers, or evidence of overspending, this is a non-issue.
Sadly many threads I see on Sandy mention her appearance or assumed sexual orientation. I hope that's not a reason for the common outrage we see, because it shouldn't be a concern. I too haven't seen any reasons to be overly critical of her so far. I haven't seen many reasons to overly celebrate either, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd expect the ADs to work behind the scenes in most cases and to allow the coaches and players to serve more as the face of the athletics programs.
About time! In public they have to be "cheerleaders" only, but behind the scenes this woman works very hard, doesn't take any BS, and has been quite successful. Just ignore Barry, he wants to blame her for Cal, when it's very clear the Cal seismic retrofit situation was DUMPED on her and then conveniently "blamed" on her as well. The debt was created by the Board and no one else. Then they said "Here you go Sandy, figure out how to pay for this mess we've been creating for several years". A new President came in, and as they usually do, want a new AD. They always try to find something to fire them for, smh.I like what she had to say about the Pitt situation, and I think she's starting to get Penn State figured out. "Clueless" wouldn't begin to adequately encompass your grasp of the issue...... so better to let it lie.About time! So Barry, have you been keeping up with California University issues on regular basis since 2005? Read the NCAA charter and bylaws/kept up with certain cases before 2011? Read Title IX and learned it before 2011? You know all about Fresno State as well? Please, pretend you ever had any interest in it until 2011. Name me all the media and others affiliated with California sports (and Universities) that follow your account. I'll wait."Clueless" wouldn't begin to adequately encompass your grasp of the issue...... so better to let it lie.
This is not accurate at all. In fact, PSU was way behind the rest of the nation with the staff increases that became required with certain changes in laws, like Title IX. PSU probably never thought it was necessary, because... they were doing it right anyway. Not to give you a hard time, but it seems that in every sandy discussion, we get a post like yours, which then begs for a recap. Sorry, too busy doing elder care and helping RI Vets and school kids retain the right to flag Veteran graves on Memorial Day! The Governor and the RI VA was trying to stop them to trim their less than 1% of the budget "flag allowance".Go "Tweet" somethIng......
Then, make me a sandwich
