I truly do believe that Franklin was the perfect choice to replace Bill O'Brien. He's young. He's hungry and most of all, especially in light of the program's circumstances, optimistic and forward looking. Lots of guys here and on other boards were calling him a "snake oil salesman." I LOATHED, POSITIVELY LOATHED THAT CHARACTERIZATION OF OUR COACH! It was totally false and slanderous. You're only a "snake oil salesman" if you are knowingly selling something false. That wasn't the case with Franklin. He was selling a fine University, with one of the best football traditions in the land, and the family atmosphere of Penn State. In other words, he was selling something true, as he absolutely should.
Look at the way our guys play for this coach. Hard, gritty, every whistle, until the final play. Reminds me a lot of the teams coached by another guy who walked the sidelines at Penn State for quite some time. I think we'll still have a hiccup or two before we regularly compete with the nation's top dogs, but we're getting close and that's largely due to one James Franklin! If by some small chance you read this coach, well done! Stay the course! We have your back!
