If not PSU, who would you most like to see succeed?

Someone who has never won before. An ACC team (VT preferred), or another PA team (Lehigh preferred).

You know in a movie, when the aliens invade, and Bo and Matt Brown and Mark Hall and gang have to save the world, the Iowa meatheads are the exact allies that everyone will want our boys to have! Sic DeSanto on the alien bug creatures! :) #wolverines #apollocreed
Yeah, but what if the bug aliens know how to apply a tight cradle? If the bug aliens are highly ranked in the universe rankings the Iowa bug mashers will probably sit out the battle.

Rider! My Alma Mater! They have always done well without many resources!
I know they are not realistic trophy contenders! Lol!

Im going with my Alma Mater, Bloomsburg.....We used to have some pretty strong teams. I would love to see them compete on the Penn State, Iowa Level.

I have to agree with some on here that with all the PA talent on the Iowa roster, it does not upset me that they are very good right now:) PA STRONG!!!

I always root for other teams. Mostly to finish second.
Lock Haven would look great getting the second place team trophy.

Lehigh, I grew up a Lehigh fan because they were covered by 2 papers, Easton Express and Allentown Morning Call, on the radio and on local TV.
The first match I saw in person, Daryl Burley was wrestling for them and he truly was great.
A couple of local guys wrestled for them,Mark and Bernie Brown, Bobby Weaver and a couple of Blair kids.
Bob Latessa was Blair Academy Head Coach before Buxton. I got to know him because he was part time bartender and I also played softball with him. He was named Lehigh coach after Turner stepped down.
It wasn't until Billman and Fritz became part of Penn State that I started to follow Penn State.
To this date I still like Lehigh and know quite a few active Lehigh alum.

Didn't NC State win at Iowa a couple years ago?

PS, by this criterion, can any non-B10 team be at the top of the food chain? Offhand, OKST and Cornell don't meet this.

kind of my point..I don’t see any non B1G teams that can do it. Been a long time since Okie State won

I would say Lehigh, only because I used to watch their matches on tv and kind of was a bit of a fan.

Lehigh for sure-grew up watching them on weekends & following the team. Plus Chuck Badnarik followed them & lived next door to my good buddy in high school -& he was an intimidating dude to me.

I generally don't root for other teams, I root for individual wrestlers. There are several on Iowa (PA guys) I root for. Im about to beco.e a Utah Valley State fan. One of our club guys got a scholarship there. So next year Ill have a 2nd team.

I like Princeton and what Coach Ayres is building there. Plus they just beat Rutgers and I hate me some Rutgers.

Wyoming - Because developing wrestling on the West coast will be good for the sport and they have the best wrestling mat in the NCAA.

Service academies - They have the physical demands of wrestling, academic standards, and the academy standards to deal with.

Jacob Schwarm, Ben Darmstadt, Matt Stencel, and Tanner Cook - because they really work to pin people.

Obligatory opportunity to mention my Columbia Lions. Since taking over in 2016 Zach Tanelli has made them less hesitant and fun to watch, and the recruiting has improved. They could send between 0 and 4 guys to the NCAAs (125 (Manchio), 141 (Kazmir) have a slightly better than even shot, 157 (Mosher) and 133 (Rini) would have to pull off upsets at EIWAs). So a realistic over/under is 1.5. Only two seniors graduated and neither were starters--9 of the 10 starters are either FR or SO.

Iowa. I’m a fan of seeing the best team win. So if it’s not us it’s clearly them.

Team I would not want to see win..NC State. Don’t like them thinking because they were 13-0 they could truly compete with the B1G teams. I understand it from their perspective and I like their program. But unless you’re wrestling at least 2 of these 3..PSU, IOwa and tOSU please don’t think you’re at the top of the food chain

If they win the team title they are at the top of the food chain. At least for this season. If that’s the case they have every right to believe they can compete with the top of the B1G because they did and won.

There is no one team for me. I would go with a hodgepodge of individual wrestlers. Based on others not PSUers

125 Spencer
133 Rivera
141 Pletcher
149 Kolodzik
157 Hidley
165 Tough one - I'll go with Shields
174 Kemerer
184 Lujan
197 Moore
285 Parris

At the end of the day, if PSU can't beat Iowa no one can beat Iowa.

Lehigh. My dad went there. My brother wrestled there behind Mike Caruso.
When I was a kid, I attended a lot of Lehigh duals (saw PSU several times). I saw a lot of terrific matches. Saw Pat Smartt vs Mike Johnson. Saw Natvig vs Pendleton. A lot of great memories, a lot of great wrestling.

edit: I'm old and my memory goes back a long way. Maybe those names don't mean much to today's readers. Mike Johnson was the Kolat of his era - PA's greatest wrestler of all time till then, undefeated four time champ.(For those of you who don't remember Kolat, think Spencer Lee) Smartt knocked him off in the Lehigh-Pitt dual. Mike Natvig was NCAA champ from Army. Kirk Pendleton was NCAA champ from Lehigh. They had a classic rivalry, Pendleton winning the EIWA, and a week or two later, Natvig beating him in nationals.Pendelton lost 2 matches in college, both national finals.

Sorry to not play by the rules... if Penn State doesn’t win, I’ll still wish they had. Perfectly fine either way, as sun will come up, and it is nothing more than get-back-to-work.

Well, I feel like it would be cool to have Oklahoma return to prominence. They've been down too long, the rivalry with Okie St has been meaningless for too long, and it would be great to see more than one contender from the Big12 again.

That said, I'm also on board for any ACC school (other than Duke or Pitt) challenging for the title, especially NC State, UNC, or UVA.

Oh, and I've always kinda liked WVU. Would be nice to see them in contention.

I'd go with Lehigh and Princeton. Princeton is ranked #5 as a tournament team by Intermat, so it might not be so out of the question.

WVU fits into the all-important Coached By PSU Alum category.
