If you were coaching this year what changes would you make?

I remember Hack doing really well with the nascar offense his first year. He needs a rhythm and he throws much better then. I seem to remember him hitting 9 straight passes or so a few times, seems hard to believe now
I guess my first question is can our O-Line run that type of scheme?

Kick offs....I know PSU has hired the wrong guy when he has a kicker with the leg to blow the ball out of the end zone, but instead tries to get the kid to kick it into a 25 sq. yd area (goal line to 5 yd line X side-line to left hash mark) in hopes that coverage team can pin the opponent inside the 20 yard line.

Tis far better to ensure that your opponent starts at their 20 yd line with near 100% certainty. We've already given up one KOReturn and Big Toe has kicked 2-3 out of bounds.

Astoundingly dumb coaching.

First I heard of this. Care to back up where you got this information. I thought Franklin said in the preseason that he was impressed with Joeys ability to consistently put the ball in the endzone.

I think you just validated my post; hence I don't feel the need to explain more.

I am not sure how that is, if you are still saying this is being done on purpose please explain where you got your info from. I attributed it to Julious playing like shit like the rest of our special teams.

I owe you nothing. Go back and watch film from the first 7 games and draw your own conclusions.

I thought this was a discussion, excuse me for asking you to participate with a little more detail. Maybe you are making some assumptions with no real facts. I get it though like everything else around here I guess I should order my own tinfoil hat

Most teams direct the kicker to direct the kick to a spot on the field so they know how to set up their coverage. So if u just boom it out of the endzone where do u get the ball ??

You should be more open to discussion. I too am concerned that you are making assumptions without any real facts to back up your house of cards.:D

Is this an attempt at sarcasm? Honestly I don't know and if you are being serious, please forgive me here.

I have watched the kid kick off a few times, and the field conditions were less than ideal in several of the games where he got to kick off. If we are assuming they are telling him not to kick it in the endzone I would be the first to say WTF. But I haven't heard nor seen evidence to support that. He did kick it in the endzone a few times this year

The "Tin Man" already had a hat. You're more like the "Straw Man" in search of a brain.

Again its people like you. I honestly thought you were trying to contribute, but nah, the asshole always shows its ass when given an opportunity to discuss something intelligently.

Let me write you off with a few others in the doesn't really have a clue category.

I thought my first post was highly contributory. It gave you and others much to ponder.

As a professional reporter, it would be highly inappropriate for me to divulge my sources.

Oh I completely understand the concept, just question if Joey has been told not to boom it. The kid hasnt kicked in ideal situations, missed two extra points. He hasn't played exceptional this year. I am just saying does anyone have real proof that this is how he is being taught. I dont have a tinfoil hat I take people at their word. I also try not to assume anything.

Ahhhhh I see. How convenient. Lets pull that card out of my imaginary hat.

I have two things to say about that.

1. If you are a "Professional" reporter and not just some blogger picking chips and cupcake crums out of his keyboard in his grandmas basement. Then I am a Santa Claus the Easter Bunny and Leprechaun on the lucky charms cereal box all in one.

2. Amazing the first words out of your mouth is an insult. .. Now I will ponder if you really do work at Penn Live because everyone knows they are killing PSU one article at a time. But I doubt that. The ones I met have some class.

Amazing who you meet in strange places. Sometimes you think you are holding all the aces and then sometimes you find out the person you just insulted may know you! A cautionary tale for those who think its ok to just spit out whatever they want to anyone they want.

Lets skip all the fire Donavan and other topic killers and get to the meat of it all.

If I was coaching, I would bench Hackenberg and give McSorley and Stevens a chance. QB's who can move out of the pocket and throw on the run to account for our lack of depth at O-Line.

Now you have Barkley sitting back there as a homerun hitter. You can definitely use play action more with him, but you also have a QB who can move if the play breaks down

I really like Hackenberg, but he is playing like he needs an all star O-Line in front of him and that just is not going to happen during his tenure at Penn State.

At Receiver throw deep more often. Let your guys go one on one and make a play. This isn't pro football. You don't have all star corners playing against your wide receiver every game. Let them make a play more often. Jerry Rice wasn't the fastest receiver to ever play. But he made plays when you threw him the ball.

Defense I don't change much. Maybe keep a safety a little closer to support the run since our Linebackers struggled a little bit against a good running teams.

I'd put names on the uniforms.

I don't know if I would make any changes at this point. However, after the season I would give Donovan and Hand their walking papers. And I would encourage Hack to enter the NFL. If we don't win at least one game over MSU, Michigan, or Ohio State by the end of 2016 season. Sandy needs to start shopping in my opinion.

I don't think any of them get walking papers after this year. Next year though better see some improvement. They will have been given adequate chances to show some life and some recruiting classes under their belt.

I dont recall seeing you around this joint before. Are you new around here? I kinda like your naïveté.

The only new thing about me is my understanding of playing cards. A spade is still a spade no matter how much you act and talk like a joker.

Agree with giving McSorley playing time/would not play Stevens this year.
Hire Bill O'Brien as OC
Lock 21 guns in a rubber room with no access to the outside world.
Impose sanctions on this board: shut it down for 1 year hoping the wack jobs leave to other boards and don't come back.
Finally: anyone who disagrees with me gets locked in the room with 21 guns

If Bill was available I don't think anyone would disagree with that move. Stevens may surprise you if you watched his highlights from last year.

As for the rest I have not seen or heard of 21 guns other than his punting comments.

I need more information before responding completely. What would be in this room other than 21 Guns?

No, no, no, this troll's a keeper. He'll last about a month or two, and then his psychotic breakdowns will catch up to him. He'll get a new nick, maybe zwick00 this time, and start all over with the exact same routine.

Nah unfortunately for you I may be new, and my virgin eyes and ears were opened. But I am authentic and not duplicated. I realize its hard for you to believe that. But then again the IQ level you have been presenting on this board surely makes it a lot easier for me to fathom you are not so quick on the uptake.

Hey now, I said you were a keeper.

Is this troll for real?

No peace? My feelings are hurt. But if war is what you want then war is what you will get. Leave me alone and I will do the same. Continue insulting me and I will dish it back 10 fold. I am here to talk about Penn State Football. But don't expect me to cower and bend a knee to someone who spits out insults anonymously behind some keyboard.

1. Run a hurry up offense. We take forever to snap the ball.
2. Move the pocket. Run a West Coast style with quick hitters.
3. Run some Mis-direction pitch outs like we used to do with LJ.

Ok this could be fun.

I wouldn't change anything on defense.

To start I'd have Hack under center 80% of the time. I think he's more comfortable, his footwork is better and is a flat out better QB under center. Speed the plays up and not have our run plays start 5 yards deep.

I'd stop all the line checks and audibles at the LOS. Call the play or have a "check with me" at the line and then run the play. Stop all the back and forth. Hack is not Peyton Manning.

Barkely would be in the backfield on 85% of the plays. (if healthy) I'd also try a split backfield with Barkley and Lynch or Scott.

More RB screens.

Stretch the field with either Blacknall, Godwin, Thompkins or Polk.

Find a FB and use him. (LOL)
