Football INSTANT REACTION: Jaylen Reed, Beau Pribula save the day against Wisconsin

The NCAA Rules Committee discussed following in the NFL's footsteps and adopting a rule banning the controversial hip-drop tackle this year, CBS Sports has learned. Those talks were tabled, however, as the committee decided it would be too difficult to legislate the rule on the field.

The NFL on Monday adopted a rule against the obscure defensive tactic citing player health and safety concerns. The NCAA Rules Committee has been aware of concerns over hip-drop tackles but decided to keep it on "our active discussion list," according to coordinator of officials Steve Shaw.

"The conclusion from this year's meeting was that we needed a solid definition of the action," Shaw told CBS Sports."[Waiting is] an excellent way to teach players how to avoid this technique and to ensure we can administrate it."

Shaw said it would be difficult for any official to enforce a penalty on the hip drop and explained the rule would add to an already full plate of issues for crews to monitor on any given play. The NFL defines a hip-drop tackle as a defender who "grabs the runner with both hands or wraps with both arms and unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or landing on and trapping the runner's leg(s)."

Halftime analysis: forget the happy talk. We're getting beat. And this despite several dropped passes and missed throws on the part of Wisconsin's back-up QB. Not to mention two critical penalties that wiped out big Wisconsin gains.

Drew looked fantastic in the 1st quarter. But the running game has reverted to 2023 levels. And where's Fleming? OK, he had a horrible drop, so are you going to sit him for the rest of the year? Don't have that luxury. Also, what about our all-world TE? He's our key player on O (other than Drew), but he hasn't figured much in the O so far.

We came back from 14 down at the half against USC. We can make up a 3-point deficit against Wisconsin. But we don't have any room for error...or time to screw around. Gosh, I sure hope Drew is OK. Also, I didn't like the look of Dani's injury.

If you're a Penn State fan (as you all), you can look at this two ways.

1) A lot went wrong and Penn State is only down three to a team they're very much more talented than and should beat.

2) A lot went wrong and they're lucky to only be down 3.

Seems like a pretty clean split based off what I've been seeing in here.

Why doesn’t everyone put handjobo on ignore so we can enjoy the thread. It works best if everyone does it and no one responds it keeps the thread more enjoyable instead of constant arguing.
In fairness, this entire thread is a dumpster fire ... it's all the negative nellies LOVING the fact that they get to bitch and moan, and Lando being Lando. Take away Lando (yay!), and you're still left with everyone hanging off the bridge waiting to jump, and enjoying the despair.

It's odd--because the only thing that could have us down by more than 3 is the kick return being called back.

Right now Wisconsin is winning at scrimmage and Frankly just out playing us. The score actually should be worse if not for that phantom holding call on the ko return. We need to start winning at scrimmage and start putting them inside their own 10 to start drives. Biggest issue outside of our injury issues is we are starting everything inside our 20.

Things get interesting if we don't see Allar out there to start the 3rd. The way his knee bent and then the way that he tried to walk it off but it seemed to get worse as he went along ...

The panic comes from what we have seen all season
Can’t stop 3rd and long
Sloppy tackling
Poor gap control
No pash rush
Zero forced turnovers
Worrisome special teams
No WR stepping up
No running game

First down. That's how horrible it was.
Because it was late--by the time he threw it the defender was on Warren which is why he had to make the catch after it was knocked away with the contact
See the horrible throw to Singelton and the play before that and the him trying to kill Warren on the deep sideline throw
He can't throw the ball--it's like Michigan with Orji
But it's our only option SO POUND THE BALL
Or play Warren at QB
