Football INSTANT REACTION: Jaylen Reed, Beau Pribula save the day against Wisconsin

Remember: Ohio State will be running out a 2nd string safety for the first half next week, and will be forced to go with either their 3rd string offensive left tackle, or sacrifice that with their second string right guard if they move that guard to tackle. Both scenarios offer Penn State a slight advantage. They already are going without three of their starting o linemen from the Season start......

DDS jogged off the field after they sang the alma mater.
You can often run straight line with a strained groin - it’s the change of directions where you’re really hampered.

Source - I played soccer in college and was plagued with groin strains for a time. They were the worst kind of injury as so hard to test if you’re ready to go. I’m not a Debbie Downer and I hope your optimism is correct

  • Nobody is saying Pribula is a better QB than Allar.
  • We all saw some questionable exchanges after Beau came in.
  • And yes, one of his completed passes was risky into a tight window.
but.....
  • He was 11-13, 98 yds, 1 TD and 0 INT.
  • He had 28 yds rushing including a couple of critical 3rd down conversions.
  • He completed a couple of passes for 1st downs by rolling out and using his feet to buy time.
Beau came in under difficult circumstances. All things considered I'd say he was OUTSTANDING!
This is just irrefutable. Without Beau we lose that game. I had a lot of negative things to say about the kid in the past. That game he proved me wrong. The kid was a gamer. I would love it if he continued to prove me wrong.

One thing I think Pribula does is make average wide receivers better. Allar is more a pocket passer and guys like Clifford can't easily get open for him. Pribula's mobility moves the pocket and changes the angles at which the throws are going to the receivers in relation to the coverage. Plus, he extends plays and when given enough time even an average receiver should beat their coverage. Clifford with no catches with Allar in the game and with 3 catches with Pribula in the game wasn't a coincidence.
I was disappointed in the OL last night. They didn't open many holes for the RBs and they certainly didn't give Pribula much time to throw. He was under a lot of pressure so PSU had to use those roll outs to buy him time.

If Beau has to play next week we lose--if I'm wrong I'll own it but the goal this year isn't to beat mid-level teams like Wisconsin it's to beat Ohio State and tonight hurt our chances if Drew can't go
But happy with how Beau played--we simplified things for him thankfully
What a stupid post as though Pribula is incapable of anything but dumb downed QB play. You have a personal issue with him.

Yes, we basically did run run run--most of his throws were either shovel passes to Warren or safe out with him rolling--great way to scheme around his limitations
Great job ignoring you attacked Drew Allar as a person though--you'll get what you deserve

I don't--seems like a really good kid
See what we did yesterday--we limited the offense for him. He executed great outside of the RPO which we had to stop because AK knew it would lead to a turnover.
Beau played great--he doesn't have the skillset to beat Ohio State. Allar might not even beat Ohio State but we all agree Allar >>>> Beau, right? Common sense here please

Ok, Nastradamous. Anyone who disagrees with you lacks common sense?

Anyone that think Beau is better than Drew lacks common sense
If you disagree and think we're good enough with Beau to beat Ohio State next week that's a fine disagreement and I hope you're right
But notice how you took this approach because I was right about us limiting the offense to accommodate him? Great OC--great job by Beaul--but very limited and as safe as possible

Who’s our 3rd string QB?

(Please don’t respond Warren.)
Depth chart wise, it's Grunk. With AK, it could be some combination of Warren in the Wildcat.

No crutches or ice for Allar. I didn't detect a limp when they showed him at the end of the game but it was hard to tell. Good sign, right? Hopefully he can play next week but I don't want him out there gimpy and ineffective. OSU will smell blood.

This is the worst attempt by someone to wriggle out of their bad takes I've seen on this board.

Congrats.

We have all the obvious LandoFails in this thread, which have been highlighted, but remember this ....

No Beau--absolutely should never be on the field when he's not even the best option for the package he runs--Warren is
Plus, when we do it with Warren it isn't obvious by the sub

So, we have Lando talking about how Beau should never be on the field, then Lando talking about how we're screwed if Beau has to play, and warning us about how troll-like and annoyingly negative he's going to be if Beau has to play ... then, as the team succeeds and Beau does well ... we see the shift to "well, we'll win tonight, but not next week" (a game we conveniently weren't going to be favored to win, regardless), and then made up nonsense about how that good play wasn't really good, and how everything needed to be limited ... and the usual stuff when you have a child who isn't willing to admit he was DEAD WRONG.

Not wrong. If he plays next week we'll see if I'm wrong. Never once said we'd lose to Wisconsin with Beau. That second quote is still true
But of course you thought Penn State handled the press conference well despite the apology yesterday

We have a lot of bad “fans”, but Lando is by far the worst.

Of course you said we'd lose to Wisky with Beau ... there you were, while everyone was complaining and predicting doom and gloom in THIS GAME, saying over and over again that we'll be fine in THIS GAME ... nothing to worry about ... and then you said "now we're screwed" when Allar was out and Beau was in.

That is clearly you saying we're going to lose against Wisky.

You can cry and whine and use whatever other childish tactic you can dream up to try to obfuscate on this issue, but it's clear as day.

And then, when Beau came in, you went out of your way to poo-poo everything good he did.

You were SO WRONG here, it's crazy to think of someone being more wrong than you were in this instance, and still trying to claim he wasn't wrong. It's insanity. Your neurodivergence strikes again.

For certain, Beau made some beautiful throws yesterday that Drew would have never attempted. Drew plays very safe and regularly requires a receiver to have significant seperation before he throws. This maybe why we as fans often question the legitimacy of our receivers. Simply Beau is more of a risk taker versus Drew. Just a thought.

Pribula does appear to be pretty accurate. Pribula's passing numbers for the season through yesterday - 18/23 (78.3 Comp %), 200 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, QBR 185.7

Slice and dice it anyway you like, those are damn solid numbers, especially his accuracy.

We are screwed without Allar--we need him to contend. At no point was it said about this game. See Dylan's comment about it being like Iowa 2021 and me saying it wasn't that bad. This is again where you don't use what is written
He was efficient and threw a beautiful pass to Clifford--I'm just not making it more than it was
I wasn't wrong--if I actually said we'd lose to Wisconsin you'd be able to quote that but I didn't

True but it’s apples to oranges with he and Drew. Different types of passes thrown for each. Andrew has had more guys drop balls this year between the two quarterbacks.

I agree and almost posted those thoughts within the game thread. Drew did not play his best game yesterday. He was tentative. Wisconsin played zone and we had open receivers. In some of the other games this year Drew hit receivers as they were coming open. Not yesterday.

Beau came in and just threw it. My guess is that there will be a cost for that against OSU with their better athletes, but there is also a cost for not throwing at all.

If he plays which Allar shows up? He probably won't be scrambling. Does Pribula get conservative? (My guess is no, unless he gets picked off.) Should be interesting.

I don't expect to win, primarily because we are not deep enough at linebacker. Have yet to see this team match up well in zone coverage, and OSU has the receivers to beat man coverage.

You are looking at pure passing stats. I am looking at whether he threw to open receivers down field.
I'm not. I actually watch the game on TV and replay every down on Peacock on my time laptop between plays or during commercials to see what the reads should have been. You're dead wrong about him not seeing open receivers. You don't comprehend what you're seeing. I don't know how to say that in a nice way. Allar was almost perfect yesterday.

During the game thread people, maybe you, wrong claimed Warren was open on a couple play that Allar took off on. He wasn't open. Drew made the correct read.

Just like Beau's decision to throw to Clifford and Wallace on both RPOs were the wrong read but worked. It working doesn't make it the right read just like if Drew did miss a read I'd say that. He was almost flawless yesterday and you're claiming it wasn't one of his better games.

Re-watch--give me any time of a game to watch a play when you think he missed a read. I'll be glad to check. I think it's hysterical when people claim watching the game live on TV without going back they saw an open receiver.

Oh if you don't believe me--Allar graded out higher than Beau on PFF. Anyone being honest know Drew was our best QB yesterday. "Not his best" smh

I've already explained quite clearly what you did ... you eventually changed your mind and decided to say we'd win this game ... but that was AFTER you threw your hissy fit ... (because you absolutely loathe Beau ... because you can't be normal and like both Allar and Beau ... you have to chose one to champion and the other to bash) ... and said we're screwed (in this game) and you threatened to become an even-bigger troll if Beau was QB.

You CLEARLY talked about how we'd be fine in this game, but that would change if Beau came in ... then said we're screwed when he did. Then you realized you had to keep up your "we'll be fine" troll for this game because people were on top of you for going back on that, and you switched it up. You're a mess.

You created something in your mind that I did. I never once said or implied we couldn't win the game. What is there to throw a fit about? Drew wasn't benched--Beau was playing due to injury. That doesn't even make sense.
I like Beau--he's just not good enough to contend for a title--especially with this supporting cast. That's honest not hatred.
I never said we were screwed in this game--not once. Mainly because I didn't think Wisconsin would do anything.
We are "screwed"--knee injuries aren't good and we need Drew to be 100% next week. We need Donkoh 100% next week as well.
Never did i change a thing. Following his first awful drive when he tried to get Warren decapitated I said it was nowhere near as bad as Iowa when others were saying it was.
You simply refuse to accept anything at face value which is why you're always wrong.

I'm accepting this at face value ... you say we got this, we got this, we got this ... then say, but that may change if Beau comes in ... then Beau comes in and you say we're screwed.

Face value ... that clearly shows you meant we were screwed in this game.

Then the folks came in to mock you as to whether this game was going to be competitive, and suddenly, you were back to "uh, I didn't mean for THIS game."

You're the one trying to change the narrative ... and you have failed. Miserably. AGAIN.

Your interpretation instead of dealing with what was said. It's well established how little I think of Wisconsin. As I said then, you could have played and we would have won.

False. I'm consistent unlike you. What I say is exactly what I mean.

I dealt with exactly what was said. No interpretation needed. Everything was about this game. Then you said you’d change your mind about this game if Beau came in. Then Beau came in and you said we’re screwed.

There’s no other way to read that than how I have. Face value.

YOU have to be the one to try to explain away how, even though everything up to that point was about that game, and how you specifically mentioned changing fortunes if something in particular happened, and then that particular thing happened and you expressed dismay … that the dismay was really geared toward future games, and not this game.

Face value. You failed.

NO! You have already claimed that title with your incessant degrading posts concerning Pribula's lack of talent and inability to win a game. Grow up!
Saying he's not as talented as Allar is immature and inaccurate? Explain. It's factual.

It wasn't all about this game. Never ever has been. I was never worried about Wisconsin and that had nothing to do with Drew. Wisconsin doesn't have half our talent level. Talent almost always wins out. We are screwed without Drew. Just like we are without Warren or Singleton or Carter or Harris....in games that are actually a challenge. Not a mid-level Wisconsin who got killed by USC and Bama. Two teams we're better than.

I only have to explain because you and others are desperate for attention. I'll gladly provide it.

You don't have to explain to me ... I already know you're wrong. Everyone else doesn't care because they have you on ignore, they know you're just trolling, or they've already acknowledged you're wrong.

Your commentary was about the Wisconsin game. It's 100% clear. As I've explained, in different ways, multiple times ... including using your own posts. "We're fine" "We're fine" "We outplayed them" "Now if Allar is hurt we're screwed" "Allar is doing great right now, look at his game stats - we're fine if he's healthy" "If Beau plays we might as well quit - we'll be Michigan" "If we have to play Beau you'll wish I quit" Allar is hurt and can't play the 2nd half, Beau comes in "We're screwed RUN RUN RUN."

There's NO other way to read this ... face value ... than to say you were talking about this game.

Do everyone a favor ... leave. We'll see if we're "desperate for attention" and want you back. Go ahead, huge gambling guy ... put your "money" where your mouth is and leave. I'll bet you can't do that ... and I bet if you do leave, no one you're portraying as wanting attention will miss you and none of those folks will want you back. Do we have a bet?

You realize I enjoy people putting me on ignore--hopefully you do the same--I can weed out those that don't actually want honest discussions.
See-you're creating what you want it to have said instead of what it did say. That's why you think the Big Ten admitted the onside kick was wrong yet when Franklin admits he handled the presser wrong you still pretend I was wrong there. All that matters is what is actually said. Not what you create.
Why would I do you of all people a favor? I don't have any respect for you. I'm not the one desperate for attention. You are. And you need me and Kaspy to make you relevant. No matter what I do, people engage because half simply hate me and the other half (or 75/25) comprehend I know the game.
I win nothing win that bet--see, this is where you're proving you're an idiot. Let's make a bet where only i win. How about you leave and prove you not need my attention? You can prove that you don't. Deal?

What?! You win the proof that you were right. That'll be a first. That's what you desperately crave. That's everything to you, and you're still searching for it, for the first time. Rather than being proven wrong over and over again, but having to try to claim you were right, you could actually BE right.

That's OK ... we know you've given up the dream of being correct and resigned yourself to just failing and saying that you meant to do that.

Hey, while you're on the topic of "honest discussions" and "creating what you want" ... tell us more about how Beau's objectively great and good plays weren't great, nor good ... because of some things you can't even explain, but you just scream out "I know the game" like you're the dude in Office Space screaming that he's a people person.

Why am I playing your game. I've already broken down what Beau did well (which was a lot) and where he struggled. It's in the Pribula thread. Just because you don't comprehend the game doesn't mean I do but i'm used to you always have to deflect

Were you wrong about the press conference? You should be used to it by now.

No, I wasn't wrong about the press conference, as I've already stated. He did nothing wrong. But the media folks cried because they didn't get their way and so he smartly played the game, just took the bullet and moved on. His initial actions were correct. There was nothing wrong with them. It was basically the media asserting its power and trying to mini-cancel him because they didn't get their soundbyte of "I have no comment on the matter that is an active legal situation involving folks no longer on our squad."

Why are you trying to change the subject just to try to get a win? It's because you know how embarrassingly wrong you were here.

It's funny to watch you freak out when you're wrong. You try to flex ... but it's so silly. It's like the kid who destroyed on the playground walking away crying, and shouting that he's so much more super awesome than all those idiots who destroyed him. You started yapping about fake 20K bets, and how you know the game, and hardly anyone else does ... lol. It's tragically funny. You're supposed to be a grown man and you're acting like you're 8.

You were wrong. Hence the apology. The apology wasn't about the actions of others but the horrible advice Franklin was given. The fact you still can own that the reporters did their job properly is just predictable.
What was I wrong about? I'm wrong at times and, unlike you own it.
