Iowa news - 2024-25

Just saying here, but I have never seen nor read anything to make me believe the Arnold kid should be mentioned in any kind of comparison that includes 2 of the Ferraris and Downey.

Fair enough. His "schtick" is pretty tame, but he has twice now called out Starocci and claimed that he was going to beat him (take his head or whatever) and he didn't wrestle either time. Almost surely wasn't his call, but I simply can't believe that he hadn't been told that he might not, probably won't or will NOT be wrestling Starocci and yet he still made the proclamation twice. I don't like him, but your suggestion is probably fair and he's not on the same level as those other guys/families.

I'm dumbfounded that Hawk fans aren't making more of a fuss that the Brands brothers seem to never be able to keep their house in order. Hell, it's almost fun for me now waiting on seeing what their failure in leadership will lead to next. Eventually you got to realize this shit isn't imagined...

-Desanto acting like a Psycho on the mat.

-Desanto pissed at fans for cheering a teammates effort when he wrestled against him.

-Desanto threatening that same teammates parents for simply cheering on their kid.

-Spencer getting pissed Brands had him wrestle Ayala.

-Ayalas mom airing their dirty laundry while sharing that Spencer is a shitty teammate.

-Brands trying his best to bring in dirt bag AJ Ferrari leading to some on his team and their fans being pissed about it. Some say stud recruit Swiderski left because of it.

-Brands recruiting the middle Ferrari boy who then preceeded to accidentally reveal that he's on only fans selling his ass pics to the gays. And then to top it off, you have another incident where someone is accusing him of home invasion and robbery.

-Brands allowing AJ in his room, then putting him under the "Hawkeye banner" to wrestle a teammate in a tournament, leading to him screaming at Hawk fans before going to full splits while he flips them all the bird.

-A heavyweight going against Brands orders and runs out on the mat to wrestle after being told he was sitting.

-Desanto telling a reporter he'd kill her after a loss at Nationals.

-The terrible optics of kids hastily transferring out because Bob runs the roster and bought kids to replace them.

- Interview after interview of Brands seemingly acting like he has screws loose in his head. Not gonna get into the mat side antics of a one Terry Brands.

-Now this, with Arnold. Don't know what happened but come on...another bad look?

I know I didn't mention them all but it's like one big circus there. They need a change. Hell....for all we know, they could be losing recruits over the seemingly endless cluster **** they seem to relish. The funny part in all this to me is Tom Brands literally said programs are paying people to make them look bad. Lmao...the dude actually said that.

They like their guys.

I'm not a big fan of the Brands' either and agree with most of this. I'm sure everyone also saw Tom's post-match interview where he almost took the reporter's head off for suggesting that perhaps he (Tom) would be happy with the effort of his wrestlers. Can you imagine what those guys are in for over the next couple of weeks? And it's highly likely (based on past history) that beating them senseless in the wrestling room will not make them perform better at NCAAs. I almost feel sorry for the Iowa kids.

The idea Ferrari is destined for national champion success based upon a single match against Carter is somewhat farfetched but a gracious gesture.

First point is this. If he had wrestled Carter and stressed the snot out him by nearly pulling off the upset there would be some validation in the assessment.

Second point. Young Ferrari's training and development center. It isn't like the IC windowless training center has a strong track record of taking talent around this size and pushing them to great heights of success.

Third point. I saw a strong and flexible athlete who was actually lacking the confidence to engage and try to win. The Iowa staff gave him a game plan to dodge and evade so as not to get beat badly. This is a staff that took a 4 time Big10 champ who was good enough to have a winning record against Cenzo and beat him into a safe guarding, looking for a stall call shadow of himself so losing on Friday was the routine. The same staff who when presented with a Penn State wrestler wrestling with an arm behind his back, in 3 years could not offer a counter.

If the kid transfers to Oklahoma State or someplace, maybe.

Kem, Warner, Marinelli, Kennedy.. Kids Hawk fans promised would be multiple time national champs when they came in.

Based off one match? He was the #2 PfP recruit. He’s evidently already better than his #5 ranked teammate. His oldest brother was a national champ as a true freshman. He was a 3x IM champ. Many would have predicted national titles for him even if he hadn’t wrestled Carter.

Adding one that I thought showed just how incompetent the Brands are when it comes to leadership...

-Tom tells Swafford hes getting the ccalling that weeks match. His family all make arrangements to get to the match only for Tom to not put him in. Scaffolds brother goes on the Hawk board and lays out what a shitty thing Tim did to his brother and family.

Anyone got anymore?

Redshirting his stud recruiting class at VA Tech and causing them to all lose a year of eligibility when he knew going to Iowa was possibly in the cards and the redshirt could have been used in lieu of sitting out a year. (I watched Metcalf on Flo last night and this was mentioned in it.)

Brands getting outsmarted by Teske’s paperwork for B1G tournament

It is still one match. His recruiting ranking indicates he probably has the talent, but until they develop in college high school rankings don't mean much. Iowa people like to tell the story of the great recruiter named Carl. No matter how elite the recruit, they still need development.
At Iowa Ferrari will win the same number of national titles as Arnold. Which will tie both with Marinelli, Kemerer, Warner and Cassioppi.

Also, Gilman's spectacular flameout behind the podium at Iowa Fight Night.

Gilman needed to build his public presence as a possible future Team USA rep, but was not mentally or emotionally mature enough to do that event. Brands gave him a baptism by fire.

Agree! And I really don’t understand how kneeling down isn’t stalling. What does a ref do if both wrestlers take a knee and there’s no action?
Pretty sure the dolts at GIA were appoplectic when RBY went to a knee, or when he backed up, or when he wrestled one-armed.

Ferrari wrestled the exact same match as Nelson Brands did two years ago. Unfortunately for this Ferrari, or any other high-level receuit, the Iowa coaching staff is going to stunt his growth and he will probably plateau next year.

Well, I don't go on GIA, so if he hasn't made a suggestion about PEDs, my apologies, but I know that he previously said something to the effect that PSU has some sort of racist tendencies in their sports programs, so.......I guess I'll wait and hope that someone can quote his actual post here where I can see it.
Well if he hasn't made any accusations several have on that board and the therapists on this board seem to have a problem confronting them. Only chief and turk told them to stop it as far as I can tell. Those uneducated nitwits over there still can't fathom that young men in their prime can be strong and have endurance without peds or steroids. I can't even imagine someone on this board saying something like that without at least 83 percent of the members on this board shutting them down. Just saying.

Hasn’t wrestled a single ranked wrestler this year, and ducked Cliff Keen where he would have wrestled Cardenas and Munoz. Pitiful.

Rocky Elam is the transfer for next year at 197, until Ludington is ready to go.
Duck = AJ was out for awhile with an injury. You obviously don't have the facts on that one. He's actually beat 3 ranked guys Intermat #22 #25 #29 by a combined score of 39-13. He had 2 majors and a 5-0 win.

Scroll down that thread to see Grip (!!) take a more reasonable position than Corby.

Blinded by the light Corby is insufferable.

And to think one of those idiots on GIA after the match Friday night actually stated kasak was a glorified murin lmfao. Does anyone over there actually know anything about wrestling
I have been telling you guys for years. Throughout every school in Iowa they teach the students to sing together "heeeessss staaaalllllinnnnn" then they have their special relativity math class where they teach Iowa kids only lose to stallers and the more points the opponent scores in beating the Iowa wrestler the greater the stalling. That is all they have been taught, so it is all they know.
