Welcome to the 1980s ...
That's the video in my feed that was followed by Nolfs 2015-2016 season. As I said before I think nolf had more takedowns downs that year then the whole Iowa team put together. Some nerd on here should post that data lmfaoWelcome to the 1980s ...

About as accurate of a description regarding the coaching atmosphere that I have read. Spot on and no sign of slowing down.@McScoreley - you just nailed this question on 247 about the threat a Coach Spencer Lee would be to PSU. I was saying more amens than a church deacon (and hope you don’t mind me importing it over here). I especially agreed with you about the makeup of his staff - I think he’s going to keep it very insular.
“Spencer will be Brands 2.0 as a head coach. He will appeal to some top kids but Brands training is all he's known and his personality is eerily similar in that he can be childish. DT was a way better hire as he has seen the system here and has experience with the business side on things. Issue for him and DT is unlike when Cael came to PSU, they are up against a legitimate dynasty.
Here's a major issue for any school going forward even after Cael (which I hope is in a long time), PSU being awakened and fully invested in wrestling shifted the landscape. The best kids are in our backyard or are hell of a lot closer than Ok State and Iowa. That's what brought Cael here in the first place. It's also why Cael was able to win to quickly, he inherited a bunch of giant talents from Sunderland (Molinaro, Wright, Ruth ... hell Bubba lol) It's not a well kept secret that Jordan Burroughs (from South Jersey) was hoping PSU would offer him out of HS. As long as Kraft is all in on wrestling (so forever), PSU will never sink low enough for any school to take advantage of building their teams from PA/NJ/NY/OH kids.
Also, Spencer's "elite staff" will literally just be the people he wrestled with like DeSanto, Marinelli. The highest potential of that group Michael Kemerer (tremendous tremendous future HC) is at Minnesota and seems to be the heir apparent for that program”
The better setup for Iowa would be HC Kemerer, RTC coach Lee.@McScoreley - you just nailed this question on 247 about the threat a Coach Spencer Lee would be to PSU. In that scenario could Minnesota get support on a level to just retain him, and lure top wrestlers? The better setup for Iowa would be HC Kemerer, RTC coach Lee.
But Iowa won't do that anyrime soon, because bright shiny object.
If Kemerer becomes Goofer HC first and succeeds there -- let's say several years of B10 3rd (behind PSU and Iowa) and national top 5 -- then he'd be a compelling candidate. Even so, bright shiny object.
If Goofer HC Kemerer started beating Iowa, maybe that would be enough.
In a vacuum, yes.In that scenario could Minnesota get support on a level to just retain him, and lure top wrestlers?
Meanwhile, Koll is putting together a good dual team. Not quite tournament good but maybe just under 10th. They haven’t beaten NCST in like 10 years….and it’s on Friday at the same time as is v Iowa. It’s only year two for him.In a vacuum, yes.
In reality, Iowa has much deeper pockets, it's much easier to recruit there, and he's an alum. That's hard to beat, if that scenario unfolds.
What up, ole homies!
Grab some coffee; I've written ~6600 words on the history of the PSU-Iowa duals since college wrestling's Big Bang:
A Brief History of Time
The haters like to sarcastically tease Penn State fans that wrestling was invented when Cael Sanderson came to Penn State, so let’s take a look at Penn State vs Iowa duals, against a backdrop of the cosmos and the history of that time.www.blackshoediaries.com
Are you coming up for any meets this year? Hope to see you brotherWhat up, ole homies!

Wow.......just wow! Excellent writing, amazing research, detail, and insight. I wasn't in the mood to read 6,600 words tonight, but so glad I did. I really enjoyed reading this and learned a lot. I don't have a detailed memory, I usually just retain broad themes from the past. I now more clearly remember that PSU was typically anchored by many elite wrestlers, but we had so many gaps in our dual meet lineups in Cael's early years. Really surprised to see those early PSU dual lineups. Now I know why so many are saying this is PSU's best team. We are solid top to bottom. So grateful for what Cael and company have built at Penn State. Tomorrow we will build on thisWhat up, ole homies!

For a while, since late last year, she was not visible. But recently @nerfstate said he saw her.As I was posting above, and with the big dual meet approaching tomorrow, I started to think of the intense pressure on our wrestlers and how they might be dealing with it. Is Bonnie Epstein.....sports psychologist/counselor still active with the team? She has obviously had an amazing influence on the program. I've only watched PSU on TV this season, but haven't seen Bonnie. Is she still active with the team?
I hope she is still involved with the program. Glad to hear Nerfstate saw herFor a while, since late last year, she was not visible. But recently @nerfstate said he saw her.
She was definitely at rhe Rec Hall Michigan State match. For a while, since late last year, she was not visible. But recently @nerfstate said he saw her.

Agreed. At the same time, if I was Bob, I’d be really tempted to tell everyone on GIA complaining right now about how I am spending my own money to write their own checks or STFU.I would think Bob has got to have second thoughts on how he's throwing his money away like he is.
He is hanging out south of Iowa City at some place called Riverside Casino and Golf. He told his uncle Tom and dad to give him a call if needed, but he was sure Ferrari or Gabe could stall for 7 minutes as effectively as Nelson could and if needed Nelson felt certain their teeth were as sharp as his.I apologize if this has been answered and I missed it, but is Nelson Brands even wrestling anymore? I'm not hallucinating in that he did wrestle at the beginning of the year right? 😂
He should look to back a winner. If he is going to throw money around can you imagine what Schwab could do with slumlord's millions a year.Agreed. Yes. Yes sir it was. Cael has taught us, as PSU wrestling fans, to be grateful and humble.Well that was humbling…
1 out of 2 isn’t badYes. Yes sir it was. Cael has taught us, as PSU wrestling fans, to be grateful and humble.
I think you guys have a good one in Angelo. I won't be surprised if he's a future NC.Well that was humbling…
Zack Ryder hiding in the tall grassI think you guys have a good one in Angelo. I won't be surprised if he's a future NC.
Brands is the master. Bring an AA talent in from somewhere else, give him cash, cars, a coupon for 17 free tats at Herky’s Ink Joint, a sweet 2 BR apartment with fresh paint over the black mold and a newly displaced single mom and her kids staring in the window and crying. All the things that kids dream of having. Brands can still make that kid HATE WRESTLING!!I would think Bob has got to have second thoughts on how he's throwing his money away like he is.
Angelo wrestled very tough and would bet he goes on to be a multi national champ. He’s a stud.I think you guys have a good one in Angelo. I won't be surprised if he's a future NC.
I get the kids good but he hasn't shown me he's head and shoulders over the lighter twin or Zach Ryder? In any event, it will be an awesome next four yearsAngelo wrestled very tough and would bet he goes on to be a multi national champ. He’s a stud.
Confirmed she's still around! For a while, since late last year, she was not visible. But recently @nerfstate said he saw her.
Ryder will have 4 years left. Welsh and McEnelly will have 3. Berge will have 2.Angelo wrestled very tough and would bet he goes on to be a multi national champ. He’s a stud.
