Iowa news for 2024-25

OSU loses a lot after this season
Witcraft, Fish, Amine, Hamiti, Plott, Surber, and Wyatt.
They will need the portal as well
They do lose a lot, also they have a few in-house replacements plus Lockett incoming.

They'll likely portal some, but may not need to as much as want to. Depends on how the in-house guys develop this year.

Dee is the only one I can see going as a True freshman next year, I think he’d be an upgrade over Amine, and equal to Hamiti.

That's why I said next year could be Iowa's last good chance for a while.

Okie St will be very young and 2026 will still offer a handful of 6th-year seniors. So yeah, a few transfers and Iowa will be in contention for 2nd.

It's a matter of time, though, until DT has a lineup filled with studs, and, IMO, TnT will eventually need to recruit and develop their own talent if they want to keep pace. Iowa will remain relevant, but 2nd place is going to get tougher with each year.

A lot can change in one year, but right now Ohio State appears as the frontrunner for 2nd next year. They return 8 starters along with Davino and Welsh looking to get in the lineup somewhere.

Arnold is about to get squeezed out of the lineup
If Ferrari outplaces Arnold at Son of Midlands, it might be hard to keep Ferrari shirting. And Arnold will in the future need to find his way down to 174 even if the cut is uncomfortable.

At 174, Kennedy is Arnold's only real competition and gone after 2026.

At 184/197, Iowa has Ferrari on campus, and the Miller twins + Ludington coming in the fall. Pretty big logjam for the rest of Arnold's college career.

So Arnold to Cruiseliners?

Meh. Maybe, but IDK if Goodale is really gonna kick Soldano to the curb. And they weren't among his recruiting finalists despite him being not so far away at Wyoming Seminary.

His other recruiting finalists make more sense. Missouri has a need at 2 weights with O'Toole and Hawks both graduating. VT has a definite need at 174, and TJ Stewart is really struggling (0-4) this year at 184.

To the extent this matters, Arnold's dad wrestled at Missouri.

I was sort of kidding (PSU guys transferring to Rutgers joke) but you gave a very informative answer! Thank you.

Why they going to soldier salute? That group way better suited for “mid”lands.

I call this poem “Tears From Iowa” 🖊️

In the heartland of wrestling, where legends are made,
Stands Tom Brands, a coach whose legacy's laid.
But there's one who eludes him, whose trophy case gleams,
Cael Sanderson, a rival in his dreams.

Brands, with his fervor, his passion so bright,
Watches as Cael's trophies catch the light.
He reaches and stretches, with all of his might,
But those golden accolades are just out of sight.

Tears of frustration, they well up inside,
For every trophy of Cael's, Brands can't abide.
He cries not for losing, but for greatness unclaimed,
In the shadow of Sanderson, he's forever named.

The mats are now silent, the crowd long gone,
But Brands' quest for glory continues on.
Yet in each tear that falls, in each sob that's heard,
Is the echo of greatness, the pursuit undeterred.

For in Iowa's heart, where the wrestlers are bred,
Tom Brands will wrestle with what he can't shed.
Cael's trophies, a beacon, a reminder so clear,
Of the chase for perfection, the coach's lone tear.

I literally cried as I was reading this.

Absolutely beautiful..

It is really well done, I grant you, but the idea that one would take the time to do it says…something, I guess

Ludington projects at 197, whereas Arnold is 184 max. So no conflict between Arnold and Ludington.

Regarding the Miller twins, Arnold is likely better than either (both), so also don't see any problem for Arnold there.

Only potential logjam for Arnold from the guys mentioned above is if both he and Ferrari both end up at 184. But, yeah, long term it sure appears optimal for Arnold to go at 174.

maybe Ludington gets bigger but I am not sure I see him as a 197, certainly not now

Probably get banned over there myself now, questioned if Iowa has never seen a tight waist tilt till Spencer showed up since they’re calling it a Spencer tilt over there. Guess i set them off lol.
You can't really blame them. Many probably haven't seen back points from an Iowa wrestler other than Spencer in the last 10 years. To them it must be groundbreaking, like walking on the moon.

Spencer's isn't even a "tight waist" tilt. It's a cross wrist. Not exactly coming off as a wrestling expert bud.

Point being is, they have 4 high-end recruits (Ferrari, both Millers, and Ludington) for 2 spots, for the rest of Arnold's career. Best case for Arnold is if Ferrari and Ludington both go 197, which Brands will try hard to not let happen.

The Millers aren't high-end recruits. 67 and 71 in the class by Flo.

I don't think I would categorize both the Millers as high-end recruits.
