Iowa transfer portal news

Willie has also stated that PSU wrestlers not in the portal have been contacted too. He said it is 2 schools and not Iowa or Michigan. He said to his knowledge Cael is not reporting this to the NCAA.

To elaborate, Justin Basch replied to a question "does this include NCAA Champs?"
His reply: Yes

If a wrestler isn't grateful for the opportunities that PSU provides, or a wrestler shows a disregard for honesty and integrity in terms dealing with the PSU coaches where NILs are concerned, I would expect Cael to simply open the door on the wrestler's way out. I wouldn't expect him to report another school for being non-compliant.

Cael emphasizes applying positive energy to address things under one's control. There seems too much variability in the NCAA policies as deferred to states that could've further deferred then to in state universities. I take Cael as a man of integrity who does his best to practice what he preaches.

My first thought was Rutgers and Van Ness…

I 100% agree. And I agree with staying out of it. Willie did say that it was not Iowa or UM that contacted the PSU kids.
And if I had to guess who the coaches reporting Iowa and UM are, it would be Rob Koll and Mark Branch. I would guess Koll for the Real Woods transfer and Branch for the contact with Stephen Buchanan. But those are just my guesses.

I say go back to making non-grad transfers have to sit out a year to transfer. Less incentive to chase NIL money at another institution that way if you either lose a year of eligibility or have to wait an extra year to perform to collect it. Removes the incentive from both sides -- the buyer and the seller.

I checked HR and no discussion on tamper-gate right now. I wonder if it’s all being discussed behind the gates of the Inner Circle and the HR rabble has been told to hush up ;) Youd think they would be railing on coaching “snitches”

What if Kevin Plank called Aaron Brooks with a bag full of Under Armour cash in the hope of luring him to Maryland?

An accepance might help sales of those "stylish" Maryland Flag fighting shorts uniforms. Might be quite the temptation to trade in the classic white-belted singlet.

I find comfort in having confidence in the character of PSU wrestlers.

Then the coaches that recruited them should also be penalized by sitting a year out before changing schools.

One can only imagine if Woods came to Penn State on a no contact portal entry with rumor that it had all been worked out prior to entering the portal.

No perfect system, but make an exemption for the year sit out for transfers if the head coach leaves then, but otherwise non-grad transfers have to sit out the year.

I still have doubt that the coaches are actively doing much of the tampering.

Perhaps, a penalty should be imposed if it is determined a coach didn't do due diligence that no tampering / non-compliant NIL occurs or is planned, before allowing the wrestler to join the team.

But if compliance is a function of the university, as others have pointed out, it's a fox guarding the henhouse situation.

Do you have a link for this 225000. Thanks
Guys, I have to agree. Where did this $225,000 NIL reference for Real Woods originate, other than this board or HR?

Think about it, a quarter of a million for a high AA, potential 2023 & 2024 favorite???

Put me on record, I call Bull Shit!!!!

$25-50k + a scholy, ok I can see it.

$50-100k a fool and his money are often separated. $100k+ good luck with that. Karma will probably toss an injury into the works.

Suriano was a different situation, but it also didn't buy a team championship. Big10s is not the goal

well it could have been an arrangement where the total value is xx based on y being met for so many years... not guaranteed money. Interesting stuff... another layer of oversight/overhead to manage through this...

And that rubs off on our guys. How many of them have said (like Dean) that they learned more about life even than wrestling. Gilman said something similar, as have many others. Cael and the other coaches (and all the coaches are part of this) have a lot to offer besides NIL and the right people will recognize that!

Think NCAA Champions
Stalking question..........

I am on 12th this evening with this beautiful white car with a blue top right in front of me. Pristine vehicle and I felt like a schlub in my Red Dodge Journey. The amazing vehicle happened to have a Bonita Springs license plate. I was admiring the car when shazam........Bordo. In Erie parlance, that is a Mighty Fine car.

Heading west, expeditiously. I headed south on 79.

I waved.

Beard definitely got calls I imagine.

It would certainly be a bold move to call any of the champs but they can go for it lol.

Possible Facundo got calls from coaches who said Haines/Barr being recruited are signs you aren't a part of Cael's long term plans lol.

Wouldn't be shocked if a few coaches called Bartlett and said Cael tried to replace you.

Still think Rutgers will be in touch with Shane …

Oops. I meant Shane Van Ness. I think they are still seething they didn’t get him so eventually I can see them offering a bag.
I'm pretty sure Rutgers was never in the picture for Van Ness. It was Cornell/Princeton/PSU and per Van Ness, Cael would not take no for an answer haha.

Not too worried about that. Rutger wasn't very high on his list despite his father being an AA for them.

It's hard to imagine any transferring making sense for Penn State because
Assuming RBY comes back (I'd prioritize him over anything else), we have 4 of the returning champs already and have arguably the favorite for a 5th.

The rest of our lineup is manned up kids with extensive time in the room (except for Levi but he even is doing his senior year here) who were all hand picked by Cael. None of them have a redshirt besides Haines. They all have 4 years (minus Bartlett, who has 3) Do you want to push them out for a one year rental of like a Brandon Courtney, John Millner? (Those are just hypothetical names I'm throwing out)

125 - Howard (2 years in the room)
141 - Bartlett (2 years in the room)
149 - Van Ness (redshirted this year)
157 - Haines (half year in the room)
165 - Facundo (redshirted this year)

Literally the only transfer that would make sense to me is David Carr (since it lets us redshirt a kid who could potentially use it and who has it) and he already shot it down. We have our guys (once again, let's get RBY back) and with the front 5 of our 4 champs + Kerkvliet and our back half of young hungry blue chip kids, let's roll.

This is spot on. And if Cael keeps recruiting the way he is, I don’t see him ever being a big player in free agen…. Err….I mean the Portal. Maybe a guy here or there but nothing major.

Tough choice. Bag of money, learn to club and finish as a middle of the road AA a couple times. Or position yourself to win multiple championships and collect the money as you go.

Nevermind, the difficulty of the choice is fairly simple.

This sounds so much like the Lubert interview, where he talked about always taking the long view.

Looks like a number of other programs (or at least their proxies) are selling their souls to finish maybe 2nd.

Meanwhile, Cael already has the talent and can wait out the frenzy while continuing to re-load via traditional HS recruiting.

What makes it hard to complete with PSU is the simple fact that Cael and staff are the best coaches in the country. The results at NCAA's combined with the results at the Senior level leaves no doubt. If you are a wrestler with Olympic aspirations, you better not burn that bridge with Cael. What HR refuses to acknowledge is that the PSU wrestlers willingly accept less scholarship money to come to PSU to wrestle for Cael. Cael goes after guys who love wrestling and have world championship aspirations. Wrestlers are going to take less NIL money now, and in the future to wrestle for Cael. It is obvious that wrestling for Cael is the best way to reach your goals.
