Is PSU lacking explosive weapons right now?

With Singleton and Quinton Martin banged up, Cam Wallace probably out for the season really our only explosive player right now is Omari Evans, who has been up and down this season.

Was hoping that Tyseer Denmark would be getting some looks at wr but that just doesn’t seem to be the case.

Am worried that our offense may not be explosive enough vs OSU because they are very tough to drive down the field against.

Wallace has had a nice year at WR, and in some ways he can be labeled an explosive weapon. But I get it, with Singleton nicked up it’s a different offense that thankfully continues to find ways to win.

It's a good question. Really it's always a concern against Ohio State -- their back 7 run so well they can crowd the LOS and not usually worry about being beaten deep. Oregon had receivers who could get separation behind the Ohio State corners. PSU does not.

Wallace has good solid speed, Omari Evans has great speed. Tyler Warren is wickedly fast for someone that big. But yeah, PSU is not Oregon.

The way to overcome a lack of speed is to be good at other things. Kaytron Allen perfect example, not a breakaway back but he can be on my team any day because he is so technically excellent, great football IQ, physical and tough. The whole offense right now is flashing technical excellence and consistency. The quality of coaching is really showing in this team.

And, if Allar plays, we're going to see Singleton used very much like he was on the opening two drives. Lined up wide, put in motion, create confusion because if he doesn't go in motion he can beat you with his route running/speed as well

Fair/good question--but even if Singleton isn't 100% he's still seen as a threat that Ohio State must respect
I just think we need more actual explosive threats not just veiled threats. Yes we have AK now but we all remember our non-explosive offense last year vs OSU. We cannot rely consistently on getting 3rd down conversions. We need some big plays.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us run a few trick plays.

I agree with you--I do think we'll get more "explosive" plays this year simply because the plays are designed better
See Fleming's drop against Wisconsin--he's not a big play guy but that would have been about 30 yards and a score
Clifford's 23 yard catch from Beau is another good example
Now--will the receivers be able to get open against Ohio State? That we'll find out

I think Singleton is OK. I am more concerned about the OL and DL.

I think we have to have a huge day from Warren. Doesn't have to be 17 catch huge but I would say at least 10-12. Also need Singleton catching a few. Not confident we will get much of any production from the WRs. Like the USC game, aside from the two 4th down Fleming grabs, which were obviously big, what did our WRs do?
