Is this game in danger of not being a sellout?

I do. The prices are ridiculous. Not just for the tickets--for everything. I am a fan, not a sucker.
Thanks demlion,
To secure our regular season W. C. tickets & parking costs:
$516 for two tickets + $190 for regular season parking, an incredible amount of money for one game.

That's a lot of bucks .... two my grandkids will be occupying our seats and the other grandkids Have seats in the south upper deck.

Especially at Christmas Time when budgets are already stretched.
Honestly for me there just really wasn’t enough time to plan the trip up to State College in less than 2 weeks from down here in South Florida and my Dad wasn’t going to be able to make it up with me so we decided on saving the money for tickets to the Semis in Miami if they are able to take care of business and beat SMU and Boise as that is only an hour drive for each of us. Logistically speaking, the noon kickoff just made it unrealistic to even consider. You have to realize, our fan base and alumni are spread out all over the country and with the possibility of multiple playoff games I’d wager to bet most people are planning to pick 1 based on their geographic location as to what makes sense for them. If you’re in the Northeast or Midwest you likely plan for the game in State College, West Coast the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona if we beat SMU and then those in the south and Northeast and Mid Atlantic that couldn’t make it to the first round game in State College pick the game in Miami. It’s just a difficult time of year and there are more factors than whether just you yourself would be able to make it. But anyone downplaying this game I think you are crazy. Yeah it is SMU and not Alabama, Georgia or Notre Dame, but it’s the freaking first playoff game ever at Beaver Stadium and Penn State’s first ever playoff appearance if you think this is not a huge game you are out of your mind. SMU is a very good team that lost the ACC championship game by a FG in the last seconds, this isn’t a meaningless home bowl game brought to you by Dunakaroos against a 6-6 NC State team or solid group of 5 team like Tulane with a 60 year old Snoop Dog Performing at half time. This is a college football playoff game at the Beav in a whiteout!

It’s a free country. Or at least it was four years ago. I’ll do whatever I damn well please and you have absolutely nothing to say about it. I don’t support the program any longer because it’s run by corrupt grifters and I’m not a chump.
Don't sell yourself short ... you're a tremendous chump. Now, shouldn't you be running around in your bird costume cawcaw'ing, as you spank it to Lamar and Sandusky, Penn State hater?

Are you spending the night? Hotels are ridiculous. I saw them for $200 in Williamsport and $350 in Altoona.

I booked my place in SC months ago, which was fully refundable until Dec. 10, 2 days after the CFP announcement so if we didn’t make it then I just cancel it. It was super cheap. Not that tricky guys.

thank you, bdroc,

I'll be home watching, have season tickets since 2000. Due to some health issues, wife and I haven't been to a game since the 2019 season. The grand kids share the tickets & parking.
i did attend the Bowling Green game at the opener.
See people this is a reason to miss the game not bc it’s too cold.

Hopefully the grass lot's dry out - they were getting some wet snow up there last night - daughter send me a video form downtown and it was coming down pretty good.

Just got general parking for $106. Not great, but much better than what the resellers were trying to sell them for.

See people this is a reason to miss the game not bc it’s too cold.
I just read 6 pages of you insulting anyone who isn't going to the game and calling them "pathetic" and "not a true fan". There are probably a million legitimate reasons to not go to this game but there is zero reason to provide that reasoning to an emotional child on an online forum.

I have to say, not being able to sell out a playoff game is something you would expect out of a program like Pitt, not out of Penn State. Sad.

What a bargain! You can get tickets to NFL games for about the price to park in a field in Centre County.
The parking situation is a gross money grab. Tickets are relatively reasonable and a lot are selling below face value. I grabbed two and taking my son to his 1st game to experience the 1st playoff game at the Beav. I’m kinda freaking out as I have so much to do prior to Christmas but it will be worth it. I remember how in awe I was for my first PSU game in 1988 with my old man and I hope he remembers Saturday just as fondly as I do all those years ago with my Dad.

I’m 3 hours away. We’re driving in and out. It will be a long day but I’ve had many longer days and more difficult travel. I think lots of others will end up doing the same thing I did and snatch up tickets in a last minute “why not” scenario.

PSU doesn’t get money from tickets so they need to charge more for parking.

Blame the CFP for that. Since the CFP is keeping ticket revenue PSU in turn marked up the parking fees because they get to keep that revenue and wanted to help offset the loss of ticket money. Hopefully they don't do the same with concessions, the other portion PSU gets to keep.

There is revenue sharing of tickets. I don’t know all the details, but I’m sure PSU will still make a good amount of money by virtue of being in the playoffs, and it’s all extra revenue over not making the playoffs. I don’t think fans should be punished because PSU feels they need to make more of the bonus playoff money.

The money goes to the CFP and they then allocate money out to schools that make the playoffs for each round. Worst case PSU would get one allocation for making the first round. I think it's a $4M allocation per school per round, not positive. How that compares to ticket revenue for one game I do not know, I'd imagine unfavorably. A quick search shows $41.8M in season ticket revenue for the 22/23 fiscal year. We had 7 home games in 2022, so $5.97M per game on average. If we lose in the first round and only get one $4M allocation from the committee then it's a net loss for PSU vs. a typical home game. Hence the increase in parking fees to help offset.

This is really quite simple. When they boost prices beyond what I THINK IS REASONABLE, I do not buy the tickets, or the parking, or the hotels, or the restaurant meals. Has ZERO to do with whether I am a fan, or how much I support the team. It has, instead, everything to do with THEIR choices about how to ensure they make money.

If they chose wrong, then THEY caused the thin crowd, not me. They are placing something far ABOVE their "love" of PSU FB.

Yes. This is a market correction.

Tickets and parking are both getting cheaper. No excuse not to go now.
I am happy that you are attending. It looks good on TV to have a full, enthusiastic house, and it is nice that it is still enjoyable for so many. It isn't comfortable for me to sit in those seats for 3 plus hrs or worth the time and money.

If you look at ticketmaster, it appears there are less than 2000 tickets left unsold. Upper bowl above the student section and the upper bowl on the opposite side are the only glaring spots.

Resellers took a dive on this one as they should have (I despise brokers buying tickets to resell for profit).

Those who were commenting "looking like a Pitt game" obviously don't know what those Pitt games look like having maybe 40% capacity filled. This looks like 105k easy. Again, had this been Bama, there would have been 30k Crimson in the midst of our White.

I don’t care if it’s less than a normal home game it’s still 4 million more than they would’ve made without the playoffs (minus costs to operate a game). They could’ve charged reasonable parking rates and still made more revenue than expecting this season.

$106 is extremely reasonable. Not everyone parks at the stadium, and for those who park, say 3 people per car that’s only $35/ person for those who parked.
