Is this game in danger of not being a sellout?

Call me crazy, but I'm going to the PSU playoff game to watch PSU. Alabama, SMU, Tennessee...who cares?
Not crazy for wanting to go
Crazy if you don't understand why some would be more willing to spend the money to see Bama or Tennessee vs SMU
Many people are going to spend money for the quarters or semis if we get there

I know this is true because during the regular season, you're just as excited for the Kent State game as you are for OSU, right?
I've been told by many on this board and obviously by the committee that SMU is better than Alabama and is one of the top 12 teams in the country. So this is a game against one of the best teams in the country. Therefore, it will be competitive, and it is to advance in the playoff. I'm guessing you can see the difference between that and a game against Kent State.

Who on this board said that?
Many have said (though I disagree) that SMU is more deserving but someone said they were better?
It shouldn't be competitive and, no, SMU isn't one of the best teams in the country.

I'm guessing you can see the difference between the excitement level of potentially beating Alabama vs Southern Methodist.

It's about the same.

Would you be more excited to beat Southern Cal this year, or Indiana?

Week 0? Southern California

Today? Indiana

Perspective matters.

The committee might have chosen SMU over Bama, but our national perspective would benefit more from beating Bama. Bama fans would be buying tickets to this playoff game.

I was joking because it looks like it’s been used forever. Super jealous you got one. One of my best friends tried out for it but didn’t get selected.
I got mine when they cleaned out Rec Hall after Jordan Center was built and they were auctioning items for the Nittany Lions Club. No one wanted it because the head had no fur. I sent it to the family that makes the lion costumes for the Cheerleading Department which is where the Lion position falls in Athletics. They were able to fully restore it and knew that it was the Constantine worn costume. They were very excited to see it.

This is a much bigger game than OSU. Who knows if we’ll ever get the chance to get a home playoff game again. Only 4 teams get it and how long will the home playoff games exist?

I’m more excited about playing SMU than Bama. More likely to win which is all I really care about in the playoff. Not going to the quarterfinals bc it’s Boise? Please

More likely to win...yes
More excited...no
Bama will always be a more exciting game in the same round
Again, one of the reasona people aren't going to the first two games is the expectation we win so they can go to the semis. Most aren't spending money on four rounds.

I'm traveling from VA to State College for the game. No big deal.
I'd like to go the game too but it's too far to go there and back the same day. Now add the weather and possible difficult travel, ridiculous hotel prices, and the fact that family is coming in for Christmas.

I'm not trying to discourage people from going to the game. I'd like to be at the game too. I'm just explaining why attending this game is a little more difficult for some people.

Hopefully the PSU players and coaches are taking SMU more seriously than the fans or we're going to get taken behind the woodshed. Amazed at how so many here can be so assured of a win when it would be the best team we've beaten this season by a mile.
They're no better than Illinois

I just watched the second half of SMU vs Clemson. SMU controlled the second half and by all rights should have won the game. The passed for 304 yds, ran for 154 yds, and held Clemson to 64 yds rushing. They're the 12th ranked team in the country for a reason.

This is a game PSU should win at home but they have to bring their A game. We can't afford to have any of our key players be looking forward to the NFL draft.

I watched SMU-Pitt earlier this season. SMU gave Pitt as bad of a beatdown as you could. Say what you will about Pitt, but they are at least on the level of a Wisconsin, or USC, or Minnesota. SMU absolutely blew their doors off. How did PSU do against that level of competition? Not so great.

Pitt who lost their last 5 games?
SMU struggled to beat Duke, struggled to beat Nevada, struggled to beat TCU, struggled to beat Louisville, struggled against BC and struggle against Clemson
It's like saying Penn State killed Washington---cherry picking doesn't do anything.

Right--if we somehow play Indiana in the semis (we won't) and ASU in the finals (we won't) then the narrative is
"Franklin won a title with the easiest path imaginable and still hasn't proven he can beat the top teams"
Reality--I won't care about it because I'd take the title but the discussion is "narrative"

I'm not traveling to State College and sitting in the cold when I can stay home watch four games in 2 days and have a better experience
Actually I have a stupid work Xmas party the night of the 21st but hoping it's on there.
I used to go to a ton of games--no idea why anyone does now.
I will be there with my son. Wouldn't miss it for anything!

Michigan didn't make the playoff, so this makes sense.

You guys: Beat SMU, Beat Boise, Beat Indiana, Beat Arizona State. Perspective unchanged right?

in this laid out scenario, JF would get a lot of credit. We'd be champions. Nobody could take it away from us.

We would still hear stuff about how easy our path was. We still wouldn't have beaten OSU, Oregon, UGA for it. We already have videos about us getting the easy path. Some of yall call them haters. Heck, we have our own fans who say they are attending that think we are overseeded.

And I can sit here and say Pitt would have finished 1-8 in the Big 10 with any of those 3 schedules.

Doesn't make it any more right than you throwing "Pitt is as good as the middle of the Big 10".

Pitt finished tied for 10th with 4 other teams. I highly doubt they were on the level of the 3 you mentioned. Have somebody pull the Vegas odds for hypothetical matchups. Unlikely to be favored in any matchup.

There you go. So let's go ahead and stop making excuses for not showing up. While we are at it, let's try to stop acting like lunatics and demanding people post pictures with game tickets on them.

While we are at it can we quit attacking anyone and everyone with a different opinion?
Of course we can. We won't...but we can 😂.

C'mon have a laugh for a minute. We won two absolute losses on the road where we could have easily lost, and made it in because of them, we finished 11-1 for the first time ever under our coach who we are with, like it or not, we did it with wide receivers who belong at Eastern Michigan, and then we just last week, damn near best the best team in the nation while taking probably the biggest screwing by officials in the past 20 years of big games.

Let's all go to the game and watch our team play in a god damn playoff that we have missed by inches SIX FU@#ING TIMES IN THE PAST TEN YEARS.

Go out there and take it to SMU at home in 15 degrees weather with snow on our home field, which is probably one of the top five hardest places to play in America.
