Isn’t winner of Clemson/South Carolina winner in the playoff as 11 seed as of now?

As things stand, if Miami wins ACC and even if no other upsets happen the winner of this game would be in the playoff. Gotta figure SMU drops out of playoff picture with loss, no? Not sure why this game isn’t being seen as essentially a playoff play-in game.

If SC wins the SEC powers... who arent SC, will say they lost head to head to other 3 loss teams and thus should be out

ACC runner up should be the 2nd ACC team. SMU should get in if they play Miami in they ACC CC.

Yeah, I think the ACC Championship loser (assuming they are 11-2) would be more likely to get in than the Clemson/USCe winner. In fact, Clemson’s ranking arguably seems set up to give SMU or Miami-FL a spot as the CCG loser.

Huh? Clemson is currently #12 in CFP Rankings but would not make Playoffs as the 12th spot goes to the 5th highest ranked Conference Champion (probably the B12 Champion). USCe is even further back at #15. Given that SMU is currently #9 and the CFP Ranking Committee has already said that they don't want to punish teams for playing in a CCG (i.e., being in before playing CCG and dropping them out because they qualified for, and lost, their Conference's CG), I would imagine SMU stays in top 11 if their 2nd loss comes in the ACC CCG.

The question might be better phrased as what happens to Miami if/when SMU wins?

ACC getting 2 teams would be a joke. Rooting for Cal vs SMU. I’m sorry but playing a team like SMU in the playoff would be a letdown for PSU.

More relevant question for us then is if Texas goes ahead of us to #6 if they lose the SEC ccg? Assuming they don't get punished that much for the loss then this would seem the logical place to slot them.

They likely would...losing twice to the same team won't matter. Same with Ohio State. They'll still see it as a loss.

OSU is definitely 5 if they lose the ccg and a super easy ticket to the semis by the way.
You think we stay ahead of Texas even if Texas loses a competitive game to Georgia? Seems like they would be penalizing them for making the ccg. Then again it would be our one good loss to their two losses to a slightly lesser team. They would have the A&M win on the road we have the Illinois win at home. Would really help us if USC beat ND in this analysis. I don't know, this is a tough one to predict.

No, I think Texas is 6 and we're 7 (unless they push USC ahead of us then we're 8). Sorry I should have said that better. 2 losses to Georgia will be seen as "one loss" IMO

I can only assume you mean push ND ahead of us. No chance 3 loss USCe is ahead of us.

I think you are right unless Texas gets blown out by Georgia.

If ND wins they could go to 7 moving us to 8. They may do this to avoid a PSU vs Indiana (7 vs 10) and give us an 8 vs 9 matchup with Tennessee.

S Carolina is the best team playing right now over the final 5 games. They lost 2 last second games vs Lou and bama. I can see Carolina as PSU opponent for that home game on dec 21

So that would be a 6 vs 11 matchup and a lot would have to happen for that to be a reality. The biggest thing would be that the committee would see South Carolina at 3 losses being better than a 2 loss SMU who just lost the ACC ccg. I don't think that would be the case. SMU would have two losses to ranked teams and one of South Carolina's losses is to unranked LSU. I think SMU takes that #11 spot.

If USCe beats Clemson a 3 loss SEC team will get in without a doubt

I think the South Carolina love is just a sleight of hand trick to get Bama or Ole Miss in minimally. If enough chaos occurs and you free up slots for more SEC teams, so be it.

I disagree about the matchup thing but I'm basically the only one that thinks they won't avoid that so we'll see. I think they might just think ND is better though I disagree

Again, I will say, don’t sleep on SMU. I said this way back in July and August and was shocked when they lost to BYU.
I agree. SMU got game. South Carolina won't get in over them but Clemson may. But Clemson's best shot is to hope Syracuse beats Miami then go to the ACC championship game and beat SMU.

I agree that the committee wouldn't care about PSU v IU. I think may want to avoid a UGA v Tenn rematch in the first round and may shift teams around, but we haven't played IU yet so no harm in that matchup

I agree that they won't care about us. I don't think they care about an SEC rematch either but we shall see how it plays out.

No it wouldn’t. It’s the playoffs. It’s 4 additional games if you want to win it all, not some one game exhibition like a bowl. Take the gift, win the game and advance. You’re not going to get smu in all 4 games.
