Jarvis Miller transferring to Umass

We are seeing what two years of elite recruiting does to a good team. Kids want to play, not sit on the bench

Oddly enough, the same number of kids play no matter what quality of recruiting takes place. But I suppose there will be fewer sitting on the bench since the numbers of those high-quality recruits coming in won't match the number of players leaving.

We will see high turnover going forward but more will be going to the NFL than transferring

Yesterday's elites are todays' has-beens???
Who said that? It’s competition between great athletes and players with more guys coming up behind them. The point of getting guys to graduate in 3.5 isn’t (at least in most cases) to keep them around for 5. Not a has-been but the staff needs to be sure everyone to get their shot at a shot. He had his time, a great experience, his degree and wants to play another year. Seems like he found a great opportunity.

PS. This “pool” is the dumbest idea the NCAA has ever implemented. It is the opposite of a team concept. Learn to meet your commitments in life, not walk away from them. It’s the same as a coach liftijng a scholarship of a poor player.

If only these gosh darn coaches knew how to meet their commitments in life.

Preparing them for the “real world” where companies will fire a loyal employee in a second if they can save money, and replace them with a younger one, and the best way to get promoted is to switch companies.

So you'd rather go back to the old way where players had to get their release, and likely get blocked from transferring?

Good for the young man. He accomplished his most important goal while attending Penn State, attaining his degree. I wish him nothing but the best in the future.
