Junior FS World Team Trials - Saturday thread

Do you think it more likely that Mouse could move to 197?
Based on physical traits, Shakur is the better option at 197. Mouse is shorter and has less reach. That can be overcome up a weight if you're quicker, but he doesn't win 184 matches with superior quickness -- he wins witih sufficient quickness, great positioning and defense, craft, and guile. He might be quicker than most 197s, but I doubt enough to overcome the length issues.

Tactically, maybe. Conceivably he could lose a wrestle-off to Shakur and elect to take on Stout. Or, if the coaches are concerned with Mouse's injury history, then they might be more comfortable sole-sourcing Shakur at 184, and having dual options at 197 with Stout and Mouse.

Hopefully today's result was precautionary, Cassar proves OK, and all of this becomes nothing more than an exercise in fandom.

This is an ominous event. We had discussed in the thread on Lee that wrestlers with shoulder surgery do not always return to normal. I certainly don't know the details of his injury or surgery but a brief review of the surgical literature shows that the recurrence rate of shoulder instability in athletes below age 23 is quite high. The results are slightly better with those treated surgically than non surgically. Each successive dislocation makes the future rate of problems worse. While many athletes do well after surgery for shoulder instablility, this is a bad situation if he actually had another dislocation.

I say Cael should give that walk-on a look, what's his name, uh, Norman Rackintosh. You know the guy, beard, mustache, bleached blond hair. He could fill in nicely at 197 this year I bet.

There was some bald guy in the background during Molinaro's interview... hearing he can't coach but might have some ability on the mat.

Let's not jump to conclusions. I think Cassar will be fine come next season.
Yeah doc, the guys who missed 7 months previously after shoulder surgery totally will be fine after popping the same shoulder out less than a year later. Absolutely.

Heard that Cael pulled the plug very quickly...could it be possible that yes, it's an injury, but a precautionary measure also? With that said, here is another possible scenario...

Lift Hall's redshirt, Cenzo at 65, Hall at 74, Bo at 84, and Rasheed at 97?

Yes, very little chance of that I am aware, but another possibility is to move Rasheed up to 197, keep Mouse at 184...? Stout a player also...

Cassar is big. Looks bigger than Cael. I was skeptical on him, but after seeing that first match I won't be surprised if he is a force this year. Ness is not even in the same ballpark with him.

Interested to see how Singletary does with him, but I will be surprised if it's even close.

Which Ness did Cassar beat?

I have no idea how bad the injury is, but it had nothing to do with Cael stopping him quickly. Cassar fell to his back, holding his wrist close to his body. The arm looked completely limp. There was no way he could continue, it wasn't a matter of a coach pulling a kid. The announcer said ''they said his shoulder popped out.'' It wasn't pretty. Hopefully we see Cassar full go again soon.

He going to have to wear a harness of some kind.

Mel Gibson in lethal weapon I picture in my warped mind.
Maybe something like this?

C. There was no need to rush him back. We had Morgan. I think he will be fine come season. We don't even know for sure what's wrong yet....But if he can't return till January we will be fine. Rasheed will be at 184 and be very good at that weight....He is not going to jump 3 weight classes. 2 is bad enough but Rasheed is perfect for 184. Clutch is not the answer at 197. I think Cassar will be fine...Cael and Doc's will be on this big time and FAST !!!!

hope you are right about Cassar

No idea if it's the same injury, but Navarro Bowman had a shoulder problem. He finally bit the bullet and had a procedure that wrapped a tendon(or something) around bone to prevent future dislocations. Don;t know the details, but seemed very effective.
