I'm thinking about going to it.
In previous year's what time did it finish?
For some reason I think there is a marathon/ street event that day down in the vicinity. If so ,does it effect commute and or parking?

Just a reminder...

-- Up to 20 wrestlers per team
-- No Redshirts
-- Tournament-style bracketing
-- Tournament Scoring, though not a biggie imo for this tournament, it's about getting mat time
-- 9:00am start
-- There is no Penn State section, it's all General Admission, though pockets of PSU fans sit together

Flo will have keystone classic for your viewing pleasure

I havent seen yet how the bing match will be handled yet Friday. Be great if they could do a FB live version.

Probably just an oversight. Kasper wrestled and won the Hokie Open a week ago.

Quite an oversight -- it would be the biggest match of the tournament (no pun intended).

EDIT: i.e., Kasper vs Nevills

Yes, the marathon is that day. That definitely affects street-level parking, and getting around. We found it very easy to get off the South Street exit, and park at the garage on the corner of South Street and Convention Avenue.

What we did not find easy was getting OUT of that garage.

Can't recall what time the tourney ended, but it seems like it must have been around 7:00.

Just head west through campus on Spruce for 5-6 blocks, find some street parking, then walk down Locust Walk to the Palestra. After the event, you’ll be laughing at all the suckers trying to get out of garages.

Never follow the crowds - crowds are dumber than a herd of cows

I got there last year at 8 AM and could not find an empty spot on the street, probably due to the marathon.

I think this is about right...maybe 7:30p. I remember I caught a 9:30p train back to DC, had plenty of time to catch it.

From the arena...

Thank you for your questions. Food will only be allowed inside if it is fully sealed, as in store bought items such as chips or snacks. As it pertains to re-entry, there will be re-entry for the Keystone Classic.

awesome. thanks so much, roar!

go add on a bit to what has been offered in response to your question:

- the food you can bring in is somewhat limited
- there is food for sale at the Palestra (not 5 star, or even close, but it hits the spot)
- you can leave and re-enter. However, the action is continuous throughout the day. Last year I planned to walk to Wawa to get a hoagie, or go somewhere else to grab dinner, but there really wasn't time to do that. There may have been a short break before the finals (I can't remember), but I used the short gaps where PSUers weren't wrestling to stretch my legs, to introduce Roar to Suriano's mom and dad, to chat with Phil Davis's dad, to talk with many of the PSU wrestlers, to chat with Screwy Louie, etc. I sat with Roar and NoVa, and had a blast. One of my only regrets was that I didn't get to meet more board members during the day. PSU fans outnumbered any other fan base, but there wasn't any set place for board members to meet, and while the Palestra isn't huge, the seats are GA, and folks sat wherever they pleased. (Someone I know, who's a huge PSU wrestling fan, attended the Classic for a few hours, and I never saw him, and didn't even know he had decided to attend.)

For those driving in: download the free Best Parking app to your phone. Excellent way to see where lots and garages are, and what they'll charge.

Also suggest using Waze for GPS -- it'll notify you of the many revenue light cameras.

Seconding CMT's advice with a caveat: many parts of the city have time limits on street parking.

Whatever your decision, do not risk the wrath of the Philadelphia Parking Authority. Even if you're right, you're wrong. Pay up, bitches.

Actually, suggest taking the train to University City, then walking 3 blocks (or Uber from there if it's really cold).

EDIT: i.e., Kasper vs Nevills
I didn't initially include Kasper in the ranked wrestlers because U Penn's website didn't report him and Duke wasn't listed on a recent announcement of participating teams. But it seems that Kasper and Duke will both be there, and I agree that Nevills vs. Kasper could be the biggest match (or one of them) of the tournament.

No worries. I wasn't pointing a finger at you -- I had assumed it was a copy-paste job.

There was a break before finals last year. We had time to go find a hoagie and get back without missing any action. Getting out of the parking garage was terrible.

we're coming in on Amtrak from Lancaster, it's $20 each way ... arrives 9:05, 5 min cab ride to the Palestra --- no parking fees, no tolls, no hassle

bring your BUTT PILLOWs ... it's a long f'n day on those bleachers!

good choice on the train ride.

the cab ride could be an adventure. Due to the Philadelphia Marathon, Chestnut Street will be closed from 5:15 am on (to 34th Street), and 34th Street will be closed at the same time (from Chestnut to Lansdowne), and Lansdowne will be closed from 34th to South Concourse. There's basically no way to get from 30th Street Station to The Palestra via a car without crossing Chestnut Street, and if the cab tries to go west to get around the Chestnut Street closing, there would be no way to get past 34th Street. The traffic info indicates that "when possible, the cross streets will be allowed to pass." The race starts at 7:30 am, and where Chestnut Street meets the Schuylkill River is @ the 7.25 mile mark. The race leaders will have passed this section of the race, but there's likely to be a big pack on the race course on Chestnut Street and on 34th Street around the time you are looking for a cab.

you might get lucky, and the cab is allowed to pass shortly after you hop in. or, you might consider just walking from 30th Street Station to The Palestra. It's about an 8-minute walk. (walk south on 30th Street to Walnut Street (you'll pass Ludlow, then Chestnut, and then get to Walnut). turn right on Walnut and walk up 3 blocks to 33rd Street. turn left onto 33rd Street. The Palestra is about half-way down the block on 33rd Street, on your left, and is set back a good bit from the street.)

Sage advice. It's a very easy walk.

Walking...from the 30th Street Station...please don't pick me up, I love the fresh air ;).
Probably made that walk to the Campus from 30th Street more than 100 times during college (coming back from home during school year and commuting for summer jobs). Love 30th Street but that new stop at University City near HUP would have been nice in my day.

so just a heads up to Roar, NoVa, androcles, and all the others on the board that will be at the Keystone Classic. I purchased a ticket for the event a few weeks ago. Alas, the situation that interfered with my starting the LMS contest on time is also affecting my schedule this weekend. I've tried hard to figure out a way to get to the Classic for a few hours, but it's pretty unlikely that will be possible. There's still an outside chance, and if it's possible and I do get a few hours, I'll find the aforementioned.

I look forward to reading a tournament thread from those that watch the event video Flo's stream, and also look forwarding to reading posts from those that are at the event.
