Klatt favors Illinois.

Did he really pick Illinois? Or did he just say he likes Illinois and it's going to be really tough for PSU?
He really did not come out with a solid Illini pick.Just a guess on his part. Ok PSU by two touchdowns and nebby has not figured how to win yet.

Agree. I feel like the video was cut just as he was saying "I like Illinois". He seemed to have more to say after that, like maybe "against the spread", or "but Penn State is too talented to lose the them", etc.

Did he though? He threw 4 interceptions, which is pretty much the only reason we won.
its a good point you make. But I would argue it is because he was getting rushed. NEB didn't get a good rush on him. Can our D make him uncomfortable? Keep him behind the sticks so he HAS to throw and is desperate to make a play? All of these QBs can make the throws when given the time to an open receiver. The difference is the guys who can make those plays while under duress in a small window.

Harris and Wheatley are pretty good sized DB's, and Kimber and Reed are also average sized DB's as well. I'm going with Wheatley to be Saturday's turnover king.....

Would have been great to have Winston, as he really helps shut down the run game as well as is great in coverage. I wonder if we'll see much of Lane in this game, or will Allen choose to go with a couple of the more experienced CB's as the extra DB's instead to avoid any misses in coverag
Stop the run, be able to run the ball. Simple formula. Eat clock, take shots downfield on offense, make Illinois face third and long situations where we bring heat.

Remember Iowa last year? Same type of game, same hype… Nits big in this one just like Iowa last year! Bet the house.

If you listen to what he said, he really gave no reason why he thought IL was better than us on the field. Zero analysis. He’s just throwing it out there. They beat a NE who everyone keeps WANTING to be good….They’re not. Their QB has no interceptions…he threw 4 to us last year….at home. Their best WR is hurt. I’ll pick Illinois anyway.

That 9 OT game, Clifford could barely walk and we had no suitable backup. You cannot compare that game to what they will see in the stadium Saturday night.

How can you pick a decided underdog without any real reason? He’s sounding like Desmond Howard. Just pick Penn State to lose because I don’t like them.
I feel like Klatt and Gus are anti-PSU after the Illinois game last year. If you recall, that's the game where Gus refused to show *any* energy for good PSU plays (e.g. "The ball is interecepted" said with the same cadance as "I'm taking out the trash"). I believe they both had money on Illinois (or at least acted like it).

He has Penn State winning 27-17.

Anyone know if the 2021 versions of this team will be playing this weekend? Keep seeing it referenced so thought it might be something new they’re trying.

Illinois gets more credit for beating KU then we get for blowing out the WVU team that, checks notes, beat KU as well.

Transitive property doesn’t work but they got a big boost from beating “ranked” Kansas by 6. That same Kansas team then turned around and lost to WVU by 4. Illinois was also +3 in the turnover margin in that game and WVU was even.

Bielema is big. White Out Energy is bigger. I think we cover.
Illinois gets more credit for beating Kansas than we get for beating WVU for 2 reasons.
1-Kansas was ranked at the time
2-the bar is set so much lower for Illinois than us
WVU and Kansas are comparable teams as we saw when they played.
Illinois is now ranked because they beat two P5 teams and someone has to be ranked.

I don't like Gus at all but that was a really weird game call from him. He fawns over tOSU so bad it's ridiculous. But he was enamored with McSorley and was way over the top in the 2016 conference championship game for us too, so much so that it was awkward too. I don't know that he dislikes us, I just think Gus is a weird dude.

Perhaps that's fair. I could also understand if someone was having an "off day" (maybe they are tired/not feeling well/hungover) and not showing ANY energy but in that game he had energy for Illinois and zero energy for PSU.

Looks like the game drew 3.1 million viewers. That was considered very good opposite AL GA. VT Miami game slightly outdrew us.

Big noon in 5th. Why is FOX so insistent on that slot again? ;)
I really think that putting big games in that time slot is hurting CFB. The atmosphere at a variety of schools, including at Penn State, is much better at 3:30 or 7:30 pm than at noon.

I would much rather see CFB lead into its best games of the weekend by putting its second-tier games early and having its best games at 3:30 or later. I will go back to yelling at clouds now.

Agree. Much prefer Brad Nessler or Chris Fowler. Gus makes watching Big Noon painful.

LOL as commentators those guys from that network suck. While he's better than some of his company comrades it's not by much.
It is unclear if he is "favoring the Illini" to win or beat the spread. They beat the spread so, in that context, he was right. But, of course, they lost the game. So if he was suggesting Illinois would win, he was wrong.
