latest Suriano news

Somewhere on some board earlier, it discussed if NS to RU would be he biggest transfer since ________? I think if he ends up transferring, it is almost as big as Elena Delle Donne's transfer within the women's hoops circle. Delle Donne was an all-everything who transferred from UConn to Delaware just a few weeks into her first (summer) semester. She transferred to be closer to her family- especially her sister, who has special needs. Anyhow, I just came across her name in the sport pages and it struck me as being pretty close in terms of shock value.

I was a huge fan of Elena Delle Donne's cookies. Those things were delicious.

Nick definitely won't be back at PSU. Looks like he's headed to Rutgers to sit a year. Ohio State gonna be tough to beat as they have no holes:

125 - NATO
133 - Pletcher
141 - Hayes
149 - McKenna
157 - M Jordan
165 - Campbell
174 - Bo Jo
184 - Martin
197 - Moore
HWY - Snyder

They could place top 8 in every weight class and will be favored to win 125, 197 and HWY with a shot to win it all at 174 and 184.

PSU will be favored at 149 and 157. A strong shot a 174 & 184.

A good shot at 165, but the top 4 all have a shot and despite losing last year, I give the edge to I- Mar.

Don't see anything out of 125 and not sure what to expect at 133 to 141.

Be nice to see Cutch top 5 at 197, but is not winning that weight class.

Steve Mocco. 2 years at Iowa, 2 at Okie State. HUGE news when it happened, after Lehigh was considered a possible destination. Iowa fans were PO'd.

Don't know/remember him, but transferring to the Pokes is a bit different than to RU, IMO

Her recipe is becoming famous with athletes - better than gatorade
1 cup shortening or butter
3 ounces cream cheese
1 egg yolk
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cream cheese, butter and egg yolk first. Mix flour and sugar in a separate bowl. Add flour/sugar mixture to butter mixture. Add vanilla last. Roll out dough on flour surface; cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 15 minutes. Decorate when cool.

It's one heck of a lineup that is for sure. A tremendously successful off season for Tom Ryan, both in terms of making the lineup changes, and in terms of good fortune with Suriano leaving PSU. Everything got better for him after the Aruba trip, but for a day or so there, he wasn't very happy was he? The Buckeyes have their dream lineup in place and are ready to go, hats off to them.

The question was "...biggest transfer since _____?". Mocco was a BIG transfer, in more ways than one. And with their histories, this transfer was seen as a slap in the face to Iowa fans. Despite giving the release, Coach Jim Zalesky stated, "I concern myself with the wrestlers who want to be a part of our program, not those who don't'', when asked about Mocco.

Another big transfer shakeup was Dave Schultz transferring from Oklahoma State after his Freshman year to UCLA to be with his brother Mark, and then both transferred from UCLA to Oklahoma University ~ Dave lost a year of eligibility and competed just three years total.

?
So the rumor about some of you guys discovering wrestling in 2011 is true?
Nope... didn't have a smart phone or know about message boards back then...if I couldn't find it in the CDT, I didn't know about it. It is amazing the access that BTN and sports forums have made...

Dave never wrestled at UCLA, though. I think you have to go to other sports for a comparable transfer from a top tier program to a third tier program with no national champs in their history.

I think Larry Bird transferred from Inidana [very quickly] to Indiana St. back in the day?
Bob Knight yada, yada & all that?

Joe Flacco from Michigan to Delaware? Kinda rings a bell too? Paved the way for that big Devlin transfer and.,..,..,/,, nevermind...

Of course my memory has failed in the past & I'm still too lazy to fact check:cool:. Just wanted up the post#

You are right...in my head I meant biggest head scratcher transfer, but not what I wrote...

No doubt crazy that he'd transfer from potentially the best team ever to anyone. But, some of you guys, lol, get off your high horse and realize RU is unquestionably a top 20 program and likely top 10 with NS. Also, there's the element of him coming home which instantly makes any transfer not that crazy, just like Della Donne as brought up earlier.

Not so sure it's a "high horse " thing. I would say that it's of pretty common opinion that NS would have a better chance of reaching his ceiling with the PSU room and staff. He'd have had Keener and Lee to train with, and Teasdale and RBY coming in next summer. But hey, his life, his decision. Wish him the best, unless PSU needs him to lose, haha.

"Likely top 10" isn't true. Rutgers finished 23 points out of 10th last year.

Even if Nick were eligible and won the national title (20 pts), that's short of the Michigan that now adds Coon and Pantaleo and Abounader and Beazley and ...

And forget any of it if Ashnault is out.

Beyond 2018, Rutgers has not outrecruited any of last year's top 10 teams, probably not the next 3 either.

Also, with Delvecchio, Gravina, and Gross all graduating (along with Ashnault), they have a lot to replace.

May be other guys will step up, but its not a given.

Have you ever even read the RU board?? Rutgers fans should be the last to criticize other schools acting on their "high horse".

Not to split hairs but....likely top 10 with NS...assume you're referring to 2018-19 after Nick sits a year?

Perhaps your username should be changed from Rubigtimenow to Rubigtimeayearfromnow ;)

Signed....PSU fan on high horse

Come to think of it, isn't Richie Lewis a senior too? A LOT to replace.

Rutgers has sports ??

In Penn State wrestling history, there has been other great wrestlers that have transferred out. Arguebly the greatest PA high school wrestler of all time left (or was asked to leave because of a couple of drinking events) after 2 years. A few years later Jamar Billman left after 2 years. His issue was a credit situation.
The overall shock the majority of the fans express about Suriano leaving is just not justified. He made a choice and now decided to go in a different direction. No different than what most people do with their job changes.
What hurts most about the transfer is the weight he was at. The 2 hardest weights to have depth at in college, is 125 and Heavyweight.

Stephan Glasgow is pretty good; Bill Janzer and Lightner not too bad for upper weights; that Blair's Malcolm Robinson ain't too shabby either
