Lee and Teasdale

Just my 2 cents.
Relax. Things are fine.
Iowa got a couple PA studs. Good for them.
Some of the bitter assed responses are so freaking unnecessary.
I get to watch Lee for another year and Teasdale for two.
As they move on with their careers they will be Hawks, not Lions. Chances are fairly strong that during their college careers I will now root really hard for many opponents they will wrestle. That will have nothing to do with feeling betrayed or being bitter - come post season time I usually root against Hawkeyes. The reason is because Iowa is usually the serious threat in the team race and I have been rooting against the Hawks for 40 years.
It's wrestling and whether a competitor, a coach, fan whatever it's supposed to be fun.

Now for some of the fun parts.
Just imagine. With Spencer in the lineup and assuming Spencer makes a few finals, we might get to see a Hawkeye score an offensive point in a championship match.
Or, how about this one.
How long do you guys suppose it will take the Iowa staff to teach Spencer to stop that agreesive offensive wrestling and just sit back and wait for the ref to just give him a couple stall points.
It won't take long.
The mystery makes it a fun watch.

Hard to say what JD meant by his post. It was rather confusing but I understand what you're saying. I will add though, we don't know what Lee wanted from PSU for his services. What type of deal when it came to money or even what Lee might have wanted when it came to his plans on taking a regular redshirt and an Olympic redshirt. Maybe he made demands. We just don't know.

If that is the case though, I'd have to side with JD if he is indeed meaning Cael doesn't go all in on anyone. That I'd agree with. I just feel Cael wants an athlete that is all in on him and the University in return of what they are getting. Great coaching, a great club, great partners and a great education. You're getting all that so you go all in for us and be all in on the plan I have laid out for the future of our team.

Listening to Mark Hall speak leads me to believe all that. Listen to him speak. He says his future plans as far as redshirting, taking an Olympic redshirt and what weight he will compete at will be discussed with and determined by Cael and his staff. Mark Hall seems to be all in on PSU. Was Spencer Lee? We just don't know...

Or he could have just liked Iowa better. Iowa has better coaches and training partners at his weight.

My thoughts also... Thanks Johntownsteel. I'd add they're getting great individual goals usually met along with phenomenal team goals normally being met also. The individual goals being met will normally help the perpetual pinnacle team goals that Cael has... also being met. With the right buy in from the right athlete who sees both goals simultaneously and wants to be on a Championship winning team also, you get the the exact student/athlete that Cael Sanderson wants.

Mark Hall said he believed in Cael helping make his future decisions. I know Cael wants that kind of buy in. He's proven beyond a doubt his level of completing the highest goals and fulfilling them, both individually, as an individual off the mat and as a team.

I can assure you of this. You don't have new coaches talking DYNASTY at any other program in the country in an opening mission statement. You can be 100% assured of that. I know.... Mark Hall's buy in was complete from all of his direct statements. Complete on both an individual goal basis and his team's future goals. I want to root for that kind of student/athlete.

Spencer Lee is a stud. over/under 1.5 national championships... I'm taking the over...
You could be right, but it's not easy for even the best prospects. Of guys that have won 2 or more national championships, could that success be predicted after their junior year in high school? How about some other PA guys who had won multiple state championships and appeared to be superstars after their junior year -- Marstellar, the Altons, Gulibon, Haines, Ty Moore, Joey Wildasin, etc. -- which of those won multiple NCAA titles?

Just sayin.

Predicting a 17 year old kid's future seven years out is like predicting the Kentucky Derby winner in November.

I think 2.5 is a more reasonable number to get an even number of bets on each side. Remember, it's all about the vig.

Right now, Spencer reminds me of Troy Nickerson and far as talent and hype coming out of high school. The potential is there to go down as all time great. Two concerns are his size and his shoulder.

The shoulder for sure is something to watch and the 1.5 could be the O/U on additional shoulder surgeries over the next 5+ years.

that's why the line is made and it's gambling after that :)

Marsteller has 3 more years of college wrestling. What was the over/under on national championships for when he was a junior/senior in high school? There is still a chance he can make the over.

I'll start w 3 PSAC championships. Can reevaluate national championships later.

JohnDoe does know more than he is getting credit for. I can say this by knowing someone very well who is in the room everyday. Not sure who he is, but he definitely has some kind of connection based on some of the info he knows that very, very few are supposed to know.

I love JohnDoe's scoops. Not sure why people love to shoot the messenger so often.

I don't think it is a question of shooting the messenger, it is simply a question of getting more specific information on scoops that don't seem to track at all with what has been discussed on this board in many threads and in many posts. I contend all of the posters I read saw PSU as all in for recruiting Lee. E-J's world domination scenario and various spreadsheets all had Lee penciled in at 125. How many PSU posters thought Cael may not have been all in on Lee? Some posters here and on other threads have provided some very sound rationale for why Lee may not have been a key recruit for Cael; if there is a basis for that it would be nice to know. If the scoop is factual, it is factual; if not it comes across as sour grapes. I hope we are not in the sour grapes business.

Choke?! He pinned the defending champ in the semis and took on the most determined "last shot at a title" opponent in Nico in the finals. If you believe it was a choke job to lose, what does that say about what you think of Nico?
Nico is awesome.
Had Gilman scared and ready to pee.
Did Clark have any TDs against Nashon?
Did Gilman have any TDs against Nico?
Did Sorenson have any TDs against Zane?
Great Iowa coaching.

Here is some inside information that u all can like or jump on the hate JD band wagon. Lee was recruited by PSU bUt not fully intended. Lee knew this. We have him covered. It was t his choice he went to Iowa... It was Cael's choice. Just like Chance and that heavy weight from OSU. Not everything is what u think. Cael is smarter than most. Plans way out ahead of most. So look deeper into the big picture and don't hate guys that tell u the truth. I never lied on here. Never will. All of u guys have some great thoughts. I love reading them. Except for spyker... This guy has no f'n idea about anything. Nothing he says has anything to do with what's happening in the room. Believe me... Totally clueless ! Might be an Iowa guy.

Classic. "Penn State wasn't really interested in maybe the best recruit of the last 15 years from their own state." We know his because...they didn't get him. The grapes, they are sour.

They sure are: You've been having them for 5 out of the last 6 years.

I'm not sure you know what sour grapes are in reference, too.

I've tasted the bitter fruit of defeat every year since 2010.

Some Penn State fans are enjoying sour grapes over losing out on Lee and Teasdale (#LeeSdale trademark pending).

Nico beat Gilman, that's what happened at MSG. Kudos to him and the coaching staff for making that happen. It still doesn't mean PSU has better coaching in the lightweights or better training partners. He would have great coaching and partners at either school. However, Iowa does have a better track record than any other team in the country when it comes to producing top talent at the lightweights. 10 finalists (6 different guys) at the lower 3 weights since 2010 compared to 3 (1 guy) for Penn State.

You are including 2015 in that group?

I don't buy it. Like I said, 5 of the last 6 years.

You were happy with the 2015 season.

And kudos to Myles Martin for beating Bo Nickal. That ALSO means nothing, correct?

As nice as it would've been to land Lee and Teasdale it's tough to complain when the 2016 class we got 1,2 and 5 and had no room or money for 4. Using Flow rankings. Last time we missed on 1 and 2 (Snyder and Marsteller) the class had Nolf, Nickals and Nevills. two freshman finalists. No too shabby.

But not what it has the potential to be. We need a contingency plan for Nevills, who at this point, appears injury prone.

I was thinking about this, while reading another thread:

So, in regards to Teasdale & Lee (nothing negative against them), is this what we're gonna start seeing, now? "Package" deals? Recruiting groups of kids? I know that I've read Gable Steveson and Roman Bravo-Young were tweeting about it, too. And slightly different, only because they are brothers, but the Valencias...

This sorta reminds me of MN HS wrestling in the mid-late 2000's, as I was coming up (although I'm sure it was going on before that, and I just can't say because I wasn't in the scene). MN seemed like the wild west with transfers and wild rumors about State Champ X, Y, and Z all showing up at Apple Valley (I've got some decent stories about these). Now, some of them definitely did. Others didn't. I'm NOT saying Valley recruited. I'm very pro-Valley. I don't think anything was done wrong. My point is, are we going to see pools of talent going places together, now that we have social media and 50,000 "National" Tournaments where wrestlers are interacting and such?

9.9 will always put some restrictions on package deals.
Valley, just like Beca have 0 restrictions on who they recruit.

I've read speculation that Cael may not have pursued Lee 100%. I HAVE NO INSIDE INFORMATION AND KNOW NOTHING TO SUGGEST THAT IT'S TRUE. That said, IF that happened, and I'm not saying it is, there is the possibility that Cael and coaches are also looking ahead at Busiello who is a FR and currently #1 at 106. He has often worn a PSU singlet when competing unattached. Since Lee and Teasdale were pretty much a package deal, and we already have Suriano (granted 3 years ahead of Busiello), it's possible that the coaches are thinking of their investment in those 2. For all I know Cael went on a full court press to get Lee and came up short. BUT, Busiello is just one year behind Teasdale and a top young talent who seems to have some PSU affinity. Congrats to Iowa on picking up to great talents. I'm confident that PSU has/will get our fair share of lightweight talent as well.

Sorry to bust up your theory Tom but there is just no way Busiello makes 125 in four short years. It will take him six...FACT

And I'm sorry to bust up YOUR theory, but Cenzo is having zero problems with 165. Looking forward to his match with Marinelli. But hey, if he doesn't make weight, then we'll go with Mark Hall, who also has no problem with 165.
