on 4 consecutive plays before? I was watching it at a small party and we were all talking and raging at the TV, but didn't PSU score TDs on consecutive plays starting with Geisicki's circus catch right before the half?

Forget that we did it in the rose bowl. I remember once we beat Cincinnati 81-0 or something. did we do it in that game? Jebus.

That' is correct...four offensive plays and four TD's.
  • Gesicki's nice catch at the end of the half
  • Barkley's Run
  • Godwin's bobble catch
  • McSorley's TD run after the Bell INT

Was at Cincinnati game..don't believe we punted that day. As for 4 TDs in 4 plays, can't say I have ever seen anyone ever do that. While we are all disappointed in the final score, I must say this game was an exciting finish to a great season! We really enjoyed our Rose Bowl experience (again, other than the final score). Props to USC and Darnold...

Reminded me a little of the 1994 Northwestern game. I think we went up 21-0 while only having the ball for about a minute.

The closest thing I can think of is the Nebraska 2002 game when MRob scored like 4 TD's the first four times he touched the ball. I may be a bit off on this, but it was something unusual.

Time for a good YouTube video clip of the four plays.

In 4 - 3 - 2 - 1...

Hopefully PSU Sports Infirmation, or a fan with "skills" will put that together.

Note: 2 video clips at the link that are more complete than these...

Gesicki Touchdown

Barkley's 79 yard run
(Sorry Saquon, KiJana still edges your great 79-yd Rose Bowl TD with his 83 yard TD. ;))

The McSorley pass to Godwin.

Penn State scores touchdowns on four consecutive offensive plays in Rose Bowl

Penn State spent the entire first half of Monday’s Rose Bowl trying to dig out of a hole against USC. By early in the third quarter, the Nittany Lions finally got out — and then some — thanks to an amazing run of offensive efficiency.

It began late in the second quarter, when the Nittany Lions capped a 13-play, 75-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trace McSorley to Mike Gesicki. That cut USC’s lead to 27-21.

The Trojans then failed to score as the first half ended, then were held three-and-out on their first drive of the second half. On came Penn State’s offense less than two minutes into the third quarter, and it was Saquon Barkley, the Nittany Lions’ sophomore running back, who took a handoff and rumbled 79 yards for a fantastic touchdown run, providing the best highlight so far of an already wild game:

Penn State went up 28-27 after the ensuing extra point, its first lead of the game after trailing 13-0 out of the gate.

But that wasn’t all.

Just a minute and a half later, Penn State got the ball back after another go-nowhere USC drive. And on the first play, McSorley connected with Chris Godwin on a deflected pass for a 72-yard score to go up 35-27:

How about one more?

On USC’s next drive, Penn State intercepted a Sam Darnold pass and returned it to the USC 3-yard line. On the next play, McSorley scampered into the end zone, making it a 28-0 run since USC was up 27-14 in the second quarter.

Four offensive plays. Four touchdowns. And a complete change in the tone of the game.

The incredible run finally ran out on Penn State’s next drive, with Barkley being “held” to an eight-yard run on the first play. But the Nittany Lions still scored later on the drive.

What a game.

I would be surprised if it has ever been done in a D1 NCAA game.

This was a tweet put out by ESPN Stats and Info last nite:

Penn State scored touchdowns on four consecutive offensive plays. The only other team to do that in the last 10 seasons was Southern Miss against Louisiana Tech last season.

I'm surprised Fowler and company didn't say it was the first time ever done and is especially impressive since PSU was still recovering from sanctions due to Sandusky's on campus, covered up pedophilia, not to mention playing without two starters who were suspended for academic reasons.
