Mark Hall

I don't know how great it is in Iowa sox, I heard there's a lot of dumpster flames spotted.

I read this article and the writer thinks not only is Hall ours to lose but so is Lee. Nolf, Nickal, Nevils, Cortez, Suriano, Manville, with Hall and Lee big leans. How are things in Iowa my hawk friends?

True Wrestling is a PA outfit (or at least a PA guy) so I would think there is a pro-PSU slant to this. Much like the IA Wrestle gives an Iowa slant to things.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Insane. It's pretty clear from this interview that Mark-Hall-to-Penn-State is more than a pipe dream.
Haven't heard the interview yet - will be an after-dinner listen, but the interviewer has a heavy Pa (maybe PSU) connection, so that obviously played into the direction of the interview.

Hall seems like a really classy kid. I seem to remember that he's been really good to a student manager (?) at AV with special needs. That goes very far with me.

Any school would be lucky to sign him.

We've already won the recruiting battle. Hall and Lee are icing on the cake. After reading that garbage on the hawk board, this kind of news suits me fine.

Hawkssox, No doubt a PSU slant, but it's clear that Iowa is not looking good. He didn't mention them once. Combine that with what's been said over on hawkreport recently and I think the writing is on the wall. What surprised me about the recruiting discussion is that Wisky is some how back in the picture??

How much more does reality need to slap the Iowa fans in their face with the truth?

Hall is very, very classy and introspective. He would be an outstanding addition to PSU in many respects.

From the Oh St guy...

i'm hearing NEB has moved up to co-fave with ohio st. Burroughs factor looms large.

penn st is considered a "long-shot", if Cael would pull this off he is deity material. Minn has some of Hall's friends from Apple Valley but is long shot too.

After listening to that interview, I would start getting ready to join the prayer group...:D

No matter what bias the interviewer has for Penn State, You can't deny that Hall's answers and facial expression when he talks about Penn state. We are up there if not the top.

He said "Those 3 are the people I have the best relationship with"

He was talking about Cael, Cody, and Casey. And if I"m interpreting correctly, I think he means he has the best relationship with compared to other coaching staff.....

What I heard was that he didn't know Cody very well and that his closest relationships with PSU were Cael, Casey and David Taylor.

The post grad year at the OTC perked me up - that greatly helps with roster management I think. Dice is usually all over the roster - wonder what he thinks

Could it happen?

The risk would be having to re-recruit him all over again next year -- while he's surrounded daily by wrestling alumni of other programs. It's not unusual when guys who go straight to the OTC from HS get flipped. (Note, I'm not talking about Kyle Snyder going during HS.)

If he instead decided to grayshirt in State College like Dinmore did last year, problem solved.

Just a hypothetical...

2018-2019

125- Lee, FR
133- Cortez, SR
141- Red, SO
149- Joseph, JR
157- Nolf, SR
165- Hall, FR
174- Rasheed, SR
184- Nickal, SR
197- Cassar, SR
HWT- Nevills, SR

Put Suriano at 133 and move Cortez to 141. Plus it's tough trying to speculate where recruits and our freshman will be in 4 years but I'd guess Joseph at 157, Nolf 165, Hall 174, Rasheed184 and Nickal 197. The last two are based on reports that Rasheed and Nickal having plenty of room to fill out and grow. If not, Nickal 184 and Cassar 197.

OTC or not - don't think it makes any difference when it comes to Hall and where he fits in. Obviously Nickal is working his way to 184 and next year (16-17) you could see this. Where do you fit Manville? 49 or 57 depending on Joseph maybe. How about Mouse? I wouldn't write him off too soon - his freshman yearend was a pleasant surprise to me and I won't be doubting him anymore. I think he is an AA this year.

Great problems to have if it comes to pass.

It's truly awesome that this thread exists at the same time on the same forum as threads criticizing HR threads pining for Spencer Lee.

The Wisconsin connection is due to the Ruschell family. Look up who Mark's coach was when he was in Kentucky.

No kidding, obsess much BWI? Jeez how dare you..
Turk, nice post of yours on HR -- saying that Dice, Tiger, Malone, and I (among a few others) would race to see who would first unload in our pants (I won't use the exact crass term you did) if Lee goes anywhere except Iowa.

Besides being crass, it's demonstrably false. None of us want to see Lee go to Ohio State.

Luckily for you, your favorite team both holds itself to a higher standard and is less myopic than you.

Fail on so many levels.

You think I'm an amateur follower of rivals message boards? You all would be giddy as school girls if Lee went away from Iowa. Even if he went to OSU. Don't kid yourself son

A little bit of a qualitative difference in the posts don't you think. You have to admit that the Lee girlfriend analysis (which the poster who brings that up is dead serious about) is a little out there. Nothing wrong with wanting a great kid to come wrestle for your team, however, so I won't be critical of that.

And the recent humorous threads on HR about Lee are a perfect antidote to a few message board crazies (emphasis on few) who always take things too far. The wedding thread was pure gold.

Glad you know better than I do, what I would think. And that you have a better pulse of our board than I do. Crass and arrogant ... I'm giving up, really hard to beat that much charm.

Exactly. The post that set things off (mine) was a jab - which I think was well deserved - aimed at a few on the HR. And I really do think those guys WILL spontaneously combust if Iowa doesn't get Lee.

And the comedic response threads were great - and were started by some really great posters over there.

You are WRONG. Ohio State is a border state school where we have a strong natural rivalry. Moreover, Ohio State and PSU have taken the NCAA Championship for the last five years. Iowa is no longer the best. It's a great program...but you simply aren't getting the super elite wrestlers since Metcalf. Ohio State, Penn State, ASU, Oklahoma State and even Cornell are getting more elite wrestlers than Iowa. The Iowa ship no longer floats at or near the top when it comes to getting the best wrestlers. Some would say...it's sinking. So, don't expect to compete for the national championship any time soon. Don't kid yourself boy.

You might want to add ASU to your list of teams as well :)

Same content I've been graciously informing the Iowa faithful for the past five years... yet delusion can never separate reality from fantasy when fantasy is all they rely on. It's all Brands can muster for their fan base. Delusional rantings of what they used to be.... If one can remember that far back. o_O

Great posts by EL JEFE by the way.

Ummm... You are aware that the USS Iowa is now a museum ship, right? Its on display to celebrate its muscle and might of days gone by. Nope... Not a sinking ship at all. But it's no longer relevant in today's arena.

There was once a time that a PA kid had to travel half way across the country to be part of a great wrestling team. In order to find world class coaches interested in winning team and individual titles you had to leave the state. Why would a PA kid leave if he had it all a short car ride away? I don't care who Iowa's lightweights are or were, there's good lightweights at Penn State, also. If I'm Spencer's father, I'd be reminding him of where his family and friends are and the ease it is to watch him during his college career. I know the crap about girlfriends and I know how questionable their view of things are at times. I just think there's only one choice for any rational person to make in today's college wrestling landscape.

Sounds remarkably like the Penn State-Miami Fiesta Bowl pre-game dinner:

Jerome Brown stood up and unzipped his sweat suit to reveal his fatigues. "Did the Japanese sit down and eat with Pearl Harbor before they bombed them?" he said. "No. We're outta here."

Out toward their buses went the men in the fatigues, cementing a reputation that Miami still cannot shake, 14 years after Brown's death in a car accident. Bauer started to laugh. Bruno stood up, made some crack about Miami having to leave so the players could begin filming "Rambo III," and then delivered a quote that Penn State football fans still evoke, 14 years after Bruno's death from melanoma:

"Excuse me," he said. "But didn't the Japanese lose the war?"

Been nearly 30 years, and it's still hilarious that Penn State's punter out-trash-talked Miami.

Hurricane and all, I loved JB. He was a war daddy that night - killed our oline.

He was THE galvanizing force of that great Buddy Ryan Iggles defense - even taking Reggie into account - and was on his way to Canton until he died. What a beast!

"Bring it home for Jerome!"

Hawkeyes are a few months removed from a Big Ten Championship and 2nd place at Nationals. What's the lowest they have placed at nationals the last 10 years? They are always in contention for a title and you know it.

And as far as recruiting goes Iowa snagged Michael Kemerer from PA and Marinelli from Ohio. Not to mention Vince Turk,Renteria,Mejia Aaron Bradley etc. And once they get in the Iowa room they will have the best coaches training them to be champions. Sinking ship my ass

Great that you believe that. 2nd place? Impressive. Let us know when you win another National title... if it's your lifetime. If Cael retires, if the planets align... if that new planet has room for an Iowa 2nd tier, 2nd place loving fan base. If, if, if...

I don't see Iowa doing anything on a National scale other than coming over to REC HALL and cleaning Penn State's National trophies the next decade or more.

It's a rusting hull of a heap... a relic of the past that only Iowa fans would want to hold on to. At this point, the Titantic would be a better ticket than one on board your steaming... heap... oh, of metal I meant. o_O

*** ADDED comment: Hall recently unofficial visit to Penn St so they have moved up to challenge NEB & Ohio St-- Cael has LOOOOONG reach, scary. Like trying to recruit against Urban Meyer & Nick Saban.

ohio st can win but this is a 3-way Heavyweight title match.

Hall also mentioned that he's taking another visit (official) to PSU. I'm going to assume that Kyle Synder will host Hall when he visits tOSU since they have a history and hopefully things go well. If tOSU happens to be Hall's first visit, then that's a good sign.

Your comment is ridiculous. Iowa's not going anywhere. You guys have won the recruiting battle as of late. We'll see if that translates to NCAA titles.

The fact that he traveled to State College at his own expense on an unofficial visit is interesting. Between airfare and other accommodations, the cost would likely exceed $1,000. It's even more interesting that he would like to return on an official visit.
