Mark Hall

The Presse/Dano connection over on the Ohio forum think PSU is at least a co-favorite at this point.

Your comment is ridiculous. Iowa's not going anywhere. You guys have won the recruiting battle as of late. We'll see if that translates to NCAA titles.
Ummm... that's the battle you win before you get on the mat. Not winning there... will never allow you to win National Titles. Hence, Iowa's chance of winning any titles in the near future. NIL.

I think we've already seen that - 4 out of the last 5 years.

I'm referring to the upcoming years Dice. Amalone, giving Iowa no chance of winning an NC in the future is absurd. Congrats on your recent success, but take some advice from a guy who's won 15 NC titles. "Act like you've been there before."
BTW, not a single thread or mention on this board about the World Tourney.

BTW, Wild Turk and Sandor45...
Even though your posts here are argumentative in nature, as are the responses, have you noticed that not one local poster has told you to get lost? Get my drift?

Under the Mark Hall thread, this is fantastic news for the blue and white. Franklin can dominate the state if he wants, but I think Cael has aspirations of dominating a much bigger geographical area. I like it.

In the "other" part of this thread. PSU claimed 4 straight National titles. This past season Cael had a team that could have competed for a fifth straight, IMO. A coach seeking his own personal achievements might have wrestled his best team and tried to continued the streak. However, he chose to do what (I believe) was best for the individual wrestlers and long-term continued success of Penn State. Winning a title in the next four years is irrelevant to me. Cael has set this team up to succeed, and that's enough (for me). That's obviously not the case over in Iowa. There's some panicking going on over there right now. They're losing ground, not gaining, on the mat and in recruiting. Anything (injuries, academics) can and probably will happen. What Cael has done here in his short time is amazing, and win or lose, Im going to sit back and enjoy it. tweet tweet.

#Dano: Hank on the $$$$ here.

*** ADDED comment: Hall recently unofficial visit to Penn St so they have moved up to challenge NEB & Ohio St-- Cael has LOOOOONG reach, scary. Like trying to recruit against Urban Meyer & Nick Saban.

ohio st can win but this is a 3-way Heavyweight title match.

Hall also mentioned that he's taking another visit (official) to PSU. I'm going to assume that Kyle Synder will host Hall when he visits tOSU since they have a history and hopefully things go well. If tOSU happens to be Hall's first visit, then that's a good sign.

end quote ---------

Funny line about Meyer and Saban.

coaches prefer to get the last visit from a recruit-- ohio st gets Hall Oct 17 for Penn st game.

Not only does Hall plan to visit Penn State again for an official visit, but he also plans to visit Columbus when the Penn State football team is in town.

Iowa hasn't won a title in fives years with four or five teams normally vying for the titles. Iowa NOT winning a title is not absurd. It's become the norm.

Coaches prefer being the first AND last visit ... thinking how Zain and Nolf both canceled scheduled visits elsewhere after meeting with Cael.

Typical PSU response kitty lover :) Sinking ship? More like the floating USS IOWA. Greatest battleship America ever had
I was in the Navy stationed on the USS Coral Sea. We berthed next to the Iowa and the last time I saw her she was Kinda blown up (sounds familiar). RIP to the Sailors that died during that accident. True heroes.

Unless you're Dan Gable, you haven't won anything!

Hall's announcement is set for 10/22. Interesting that he would return from Columbus on 10/18, pick the winner, notify both coaches (and everyone else who needs to know behind the scenes), and publicly announce -- all in 4 days.

Maybe his decision has already been made.

Won't be too hard, Mark will tell Coach Ryan "No Thanks" on his way out of town after seeing the dump that is Columbus.

If this travel schedule is indeed correct...

10/10 is a Saturday over a 3-day weekend (Columbus Day weekend). With the fall foliage and homecoming weekend, it's a great time to visit State College.

10/18 is a Sunday on a 2-day weekend (unless he is taking time off from school on 10/19). If he has an enjoyable trip to State College the prior week, it would be very easy to bag this Sunday trip.

It will be interesting if it comes down to these two schools.

I'm pretty sure that official visits can't exceed past 48 hours.

Yes, that's correct. But it's measured from the time the athlete either arrives on campus or is entertained in any manner (whichever comes first), until the time the athlete departs campus. In this instance, the long weekend provides extra travel time.

I see most project Hall at 174 in college but is there a chance he begins at 165? I only ask since he has been competing in freestyle at 74 kg as of late and if he wanted to stay around the same year long, you wouldn't think he would prefer competing roughly 10 pounds heavier in Folkstyle would ya? Just curious to peoples thoughts...

74kg is a day before weigh in, so it makes sense if he wrestled 174, or 165. Maybe if he doesn't cut much weight 165 will be best, but Andrew Howe wrestled 174 his SR year and still wrestles 74kg fine. It might be easier for him to wrestle at a bit higher when he has 1 hr and 2 hr breaks after weigh ins to wrestle, as opposed to a day before weigh in.

His announcements have been anything but reliable.
Everyone has a different rumor. I heard last night Red and Hall were both headed to Nebraska. Hall wants to workout with Burroughs for the next few years building up to the 2020 Olympics.

If Hall is indeed down to Penn State and Ohio State, he has a funny way of showing it:

He said publicly last month that he's narrowed his choices down to two or three schools but that he'll be making official visits to two others as well.

In that TrueWrestling video, he said "I don't really know where I want to go yet. I have two or three places that are at the top and another couple that are just there, just in case. But I have those three that I know are the right place for me."

The Goofer visit seems compatible with what he said and is not inconsistent with the reports that he's down to tOSU and PSU (tho it is hard for me to believe that Nebraska is not on the short list).

I get what you're saying, but I'm of the school that you're either down to 2 or not down to 2. "Just in case" means he's not down to 2. It's like people who swear up and down that they don't smoke but smoke when they drink ... umm, then you smoke.

If he's down to 2 (or 3) and wants a "just in case" wiggle room, then see the top schools now and give yourself the wiggle room in October. As if the Goofers wouldn't show him around on short notice.

Of course, if he's just taking a practice run so he knows what to expect with the big boys, that's another matter.

Mark Hall is helping me solidify my take on underclassman recruiting. I don't give an s how many times he says he's down to x or y or z, I'm just glad he didn't 'commit' early and then go through all this.

High School students can get a lot out of campus visits, both official & unofficial. Love to see him taking them.

I'm still dubious he'll end up choosing PSU, but I really dig that he's giving Cael a chance while he learns all he can about each place he's considering.
