Shooting poorly seems to be a common theme for Penn State.GT up by 1 with 5 left in the first half. Stevens and Garner carrying the scoring. Both teams shooting poorly.
I didn't think it was all that sloppy either. Made some clutch shots down the stretch, played some really good defense when needed, and hit some key free throws. All in all a pretty good outing. This was a good win because GT is a quality opponent. The game wasn't overly sloppy. There was a lot of good defense in this game; Penn State played some great team defense. Be happy with this win. The team showed some great moments at times. Mistakes were minimized in this game.

They were 21-15 last year. 8-10 in conference play. Went to the NIT and were knocked out in the quarterfinals. That's not too shabby.Really? GT will be one of the four worst teams in the ACC and not smell post season. Very sloppy effort. A win is a win but take the glasses off if you think this is a quality opponent.
They also have a new coach and lost almost 60 ppg in production from last year's team. They were 21-15 last year. 8-10 in conference play. Went to the NIT and were knocked out in the quarterfinals. That's not too shabby.
If I take off my glasses, as you suggested, I may not have been able to see those stats.

Well let me say that the NIT, whether you like the tournament or not, does pick only teams that have shown some level of success during the year. I'm not saying that the NIT in any way compares with the NCAA; but there are some teams that play in the NIT that come from good conferences and play a good caliber of ball. I'm pretty certain that just about every NIT team has at least a .500 record. Thanks for the history lesson but what does last year have to do with anything and more specifically my post? Answer is nothing. Make a deal with you. Check back with me after February 1st and let me know if GT cracks the top 90. That's generously calling GT a quality win. To me a quality win is what the committee looks at 40-60 but I'll stretch it out just for you. Also stop looking at the NIT like that's a standard of acceptable achievement. The baby step routine some of you promote is a joke in college basketball. The basketball team is progressing but you can't sugar coat losing to Albany and support the baby step growth concept at the same time for a coach that's been here this long. I love Pat but he needs to take real tangible steps over the next two or three years in the form of winning.
I suggest changing those glasses to ones that look forward and not backwards

Secondly, you talk about the loss to Albany as if it's the end to a good season. Give me a break. There's over 30+ games left to play after the Albany game. Our team has 4-5 key guys, playing many minutes, that had never worn a PS uniform before that first game. We weren't blown out by Albany. It was a close game.
And lastly, you said: "I love Pat but he needs to take real tangible steps over the next two or three years in the form of winning." I actually like this statement and totally agree with your sentiments.
But, by criticizing the team at this point, with their decent record, and with the unprecedented level of difficulty of competition that we've faced so far; it is just unfair and not warranted right now.
This program has been restarted from scratch under Chambers. We were continually one of the bottom 1,2 or 3 teams in the BIG for a long, long time. I don't see us that way any longer. Be patient and at least wait for BIG play before you start criticizing. I think the team has a good chance of being .500 or better in BIG play. Now, maybe that's not enough of an improvement for you; but it certainly would be for me and for many of our fans.
He still doesn't have a roster predicted to do anything. Most of the previews I read have PSU picked to finish 13th in the Big. Hopefully that doesn't happen but you asked when has Chambers ever had a roster predicted to do anything. Obviously his recruiting still isn't generating much hype.Anyone that thinks Pat Chambers' job security should be in question at Penn State is clueless.
It took years of hard work to get these kinds of recruits to Penn State and then we fire him when the players arrive?
You fire Pat Chambers Penn State basketball will be a total dumpster fire from now until forever.
We live in a culture now where everyone thinks the answer to everything is firing the coach. I can tell you that is not the answer at Penn State. We are finally recruiting at a Big Ten level, but these kids still need time to develop and shouldn't have to deliver overnight just because Pat Chambers has already been here for 5 years. When has Chambers ever had a roster anyone predicted to do anything?
Pat Chambers inherited one of the most difficult jobs at the major conference level. Unfortunately the fan support is still a joke.
I'm not trying to disagree with any of what you're saying in fact I do agree with what you've said. But, these predictors and prognosticators usually just look at the previous year and play it safe with their predictions and picks. He still doesn't have a roster predicted to do anything. Lets see what happens these next 5 before Christmas. Wright State, Mason and Morgan should be W's. Pitt should be an L. St Johns just lost to Delaware St last night and lost their last 5. It SHOULD be a PSU win but it is in NYC and maybe this was their wake up call. to win 4 of 5 would be good, 3 of 5 would be ehhh and less than that is unacceptable.
Well let's just say that I respect your opinion but we obviously disagree on some points.I wouldnt speak for our fans. They can post for themselves really. I was looking at a little better play in some of our games. Losing to Albany. Total joke man! Beating Duquesne by 8? Seriously they are awful. Getting trashed by Cinci. You misrepresented my post. I'm not really criticizing as much as disappointed a bit. Of course there is an entire conference schedule and some OCC left but why have an opinion site if you can't analyze as we go. If that's the case no posts until March I guess.
Well let's just say that I respect your opinion but we obviously disagree on some points.
I think Michigan State, with Izzo, is 4-4 right now. Would you be bailing out on them if they were your guys?
PItt has a more talented front line and more experience.
Well that's my point. Everyone knows they're great, yet they've lost 4 games already. You're bellyaching about our 1 loss to Albany as if it's the end to our season. Are you comparing anything Michigan st hoops with anything Penn St hoops? If the answer is yes please save yourself and jump!

I highly doubt that the MSU fans are jumping off bridges right now. lol
