Michigan asks victims of sexual assault to come forward day after criminal investigation ended

The wrestler, who attended UM in 1972-76, told UM police that no matter what a patient saw Anderson for, the exam would include a hernia check, a prostate check and a penis examination.

The former athlete told police that he lost his scholarship and had to hire a lawyer to get it back.

Updated story:

"Again, I was sent to Dr. Anderson who examined the elbow and continued with his penis, hernia and prostate checks," the man wrote. "I found it strange that I needed a penis and hernia check ... plus a rubber glove check for when my elbow had dislocated, but I never really gave it much thought."

He said he talked with a football player who lived near him.

"Somehow, the football player started talking about Dr. 'Drop Your Drawers' Anderson," the man wrote. "To put it mildly, I was shocked. The football player related how he went in for something like a badly bruised shoulder and got 'the glove.' AKA, prostate exam."

When his elbow began dislocating during the season, officials in the athletic training department taped his elbow but his left hand was "swollen like a red balloon" because of the taping. He was told to go see Anderson.

"No way was that going to happen," the man wrote. "I didn't go back to see Dr. Anderson and I quit getting my arm taped and therefore spent the rest of the wrestling season trying to keep my elbow from dislocating."

After the season ended, he went home for the summer and Johannesen sent him a letter that referenced him "wasting" his junior year. The letter was even sent to his high school wrestling coach.

He was mad, and wrote back an angry letter, leaving little out.

"I mentioned my elbow dislocating," the man wrote. "The bed wetting. The trouble sleeping I was having. I mentioned Dr. Drop Your Drawers Anderson in that letter."

The coach took away his scholarship and removed him from the team.
You are incorrect.
Fair enough.

It's weird watching the light bulbs slowly turn on for these dimwitted michigan garbage people. They finally realize this can happen anywhere.

But the funny thing is, I don't see any thoughts about how wrong it was to treat PSU alumni they way we've been treated for the last 9 years. And if you bring it up, you won't get a kind response.

"No, we're different than you. You're a cult and you all allowed child rape so you could have mediocre football seasons in the 2000s. You deserved the humiliation and punishment you received because you didn't throw Paterno under the bus with no evidence."

Their hero Bo Schembechler demanding only his male rapist team doc perform the 100% unnecessary rectum examinations on his players is going to leave him worse off than Paterno nationally when this is all done. Can’t have a female doc doing that ffs! PUT THE KNUCKLE RIGHT ON THE ASS HOLE. JUST SNUGGLE THAT SUMBITCH IN THERE GOOD AND TIGHT.

Time to head for higher ground

Lawyer: Could be more Anderson sex abuse accusers at U-M than 350 Strauss assaulted at Ohio State

On Thursday, several of those accusers represented by Stinar's firm are scheduled to hold a news conference, including a "whistleblower" who wrote a letter to U-M in the 1970s and again in 2018 about being sexually assaulted. The latest letter kicked off a police investigation, which came to light earlier this month as the Detroit News was asking questions about it.

The news conference should also include copies of documents that Stinar says will show U-M knew about Anderson for decades and didn't take action to get him off campus.

The allegations from clients of Stinar and his firm occurred sometime between 1973 and 1998. The accusers are former team captains and former All-Americans. His firm has had contact with "all sports teams" at the university, Stinar said.

The clients will describe how Anderson would give them unnecessary medical exams, including rectal exams to check prostates on 19-year-old men. They would also get testicular exams when they showed up with sprained ankles.

Bo & Doc Hands were just making sure everything was above board from stem to stern. That's the michigan way.

However, a former student in Ann Arbor's Forsythe Middle School, Joe Neely, has vivid memories of an exam he had with Anderson more than 50 years ago when Neely was a seventh-grade wrestler and basketball player.

In an interview with The News, Neely said Anderson checked him for undescended testicles and joked about his genitals, making him feel extremely uncomfortable. He says classmates who had the same physical shared similar feelings.

"He examined us all and seemed to spend too much time and take delight in examining us for undescended testicles," Neely said. "We talked about it, and we all had the same experience and felt it was inappropriate. He took too much pleasure in his work."

Karageanes added a screening does not include a check of the prostate, which some former UM athletes have alleged was a regular part of Anderson's exams.

"I have never performed a prostate exam on an athlete as part of a screening exam, ever," he said. "It’s not part of the screening exam."

Why we need to drill Michigan RELENTLESSLY over this. These were posts from YESTERDAY about Franklin's extension from these a-holes.

The idea that PSU has the capacity to pay a head coach a contract like that after the NCAA dialed back all of their penalties is asinine.

The program should have been blown up. But the revenue collected from a white out in Beaver stadium is obviously more important.

And AGAIN....the only crime Sandusky was charged with that allegedly occurred on Penn State's campus...the famous "shower incident"....he was found not guilty of. The victim claimed nothing happened.

Compared to OSU, MSU, and Michigan, where all these hundreds, thousands of combined incidents happened to their own athletes on their campus which were then covered up.

I just checked out Michigan’s board called “The Fort” here on Rivals. There is no thread on handerson or any of their other sex scandals on the first two pages. However, there is a thread on the Paterno movie on the first page. I didn’t open the thread.

I went to a hockey game with my Michigan man friend on Tuesday. He's a really nice guy, not arrogant at all. Never ran his mouth about our problem. He loves ol' Bo.

I tried to warn him what was coming and he blew it off. He had seen no coverage of it whatsoever and he's all in for the blue. He has no idea that this is happening.

The two biggest issues with the Penn State situation were that it involved Joe Paterno ( the moral compass of college football) & it was the first big sex scandal in a long time.

In addition, the #Metoo. movement was in its infancy , and the leaders were looking for a test case to rally around. The Sandusky situation was the perfect issue to get women, corporations, & the media galvanized.

It involved Joe Paterno so much that his actions are now the NCAA guidelines for how coaches should handle similar situations.

There is a press conference going on at 10am with 8 of the victims who will be making statements, apparently. They will show documents detailing how Michigan knew of this problem for decades and covered it up. ESPN has had one article on this so far. Should be interesting to see how, or if, the press conference is covered.

I have seen little coverage from the news outlets. Their focus, of course, has largely been coronavirus.
