MN Christmas Tournament

RBY through to final with 24-11 win. C Manville loses in OT. That's okay - don't want the 2 Penn State guys wrestling in anger ;)

Manville was the better wrestler against Gliva imo, just gave up a stall call on top before Gliva got away with short time on the clock.

I know that kid was over matched and certainly tenative...but RBY is lightning fast and looks to have a pretty strong grip too.

Suriano and RBY might just be better than lee and Teasdale. ...will be interesting a few years from now when we add up the trophies.

Ugh to the second part.

I was surprised to see Sunnyside wrestling in Minnesota this weekend. I have always wanted them to come up for a big tourney...not their best team but they finished in the top ten. They finally have gotten a taste of midwest wrestling. Would have liked to have seen them at Ironman...could you imagine an RBY/Lee final at 126?

Was watching Rogue 1 and catching up. Berge with a last minute TD to beat Jake Allar (#6 at 170) 4-3. PSU recruits with 2 titles.

Noticed in the vid that virtually all of RBY's attacks were to the opponent's left leg (or side). I was a bit surprised to not see RBY practice with greater variety (knowing, after all, that the opponent was overmatched).

That said, I know very little of RBY . . . maybe someone (Chief?) can set me straight on whether going after the right side is a potentially underdeveloped part of his game?

Could be although if it is, it's because only a handful of kids at his weight in the country can stop him. I've seen him do some very pretty misdirection shots and finish on the right leg. Against good kids, RBY can let guys in a tad easy than one would like but it's very tough to finish on him and not because he is funky. Just ask Jordan Decatur or Teasdale. He's what you want...athletic, creative, and tough.

Tonight, a little birdy told me there is a good chance his team is headed to Ironman next year.

Yeah, was going to say something similar. Even in the clip above while he may be attacking the same leg it's a different setup each time, with some pretty dazzling misdirection. Last TD is something Nickal does a lot, where he's kind of falling with you and grabs the ankle on the way down.

Just to play devil's advocate: maybe he used that match to practice shots at the left leg?

Oh, he was definitely practicing on that leg! But seriously, no issue with a possible explanantion -- I was just curious about the possibility I was picking up on something already known/suspected. I remember throwing the kitchen sink at guys who I knew I would have an easy time with, practice stuff that wasn't comfortable or routine (unless it was a tough day to make weight, in which case I went to my bread-and-butter to get it over with quickly). Not that I was special (I wasn't) or even had D1 aspirations (I didn't), so for all I know it may have been wiser for me to master a few comfort moves first before trying to expand the arsenal . . .

Anyway, I was just speculating from my couch, wiped after a day of tough-guy snow-shoveling.

Just don't ever see Berge at 149. Sure, Allar was bigger, but Allar won't see 157

You and I think alike on this one. But after seeing Micah Jordan down at 141 last year, anything is possible.

Just doesnt seem probable.

Yeah, agree as well. Seems like a lot would have to go just right for Berge to wrestle at 149 for any length to time in college, including absolutely no more physical growth.

Allar's a stud...both guys are close to even. It's going to be tough for Brady to get to 149...probably going to have to sit a real year behind Nolf. He says he thinks he can do it so I wouldn't discount him.
