Is it really cheating if the slushfund is just a loophole? Wish i could have an hour to read through Larry Lee's binder. What exactly did the other schools promise Spencer and say about Iowa?

With who? Kaleb Young as a contender? Max Murin? You spend too much time on the Iowa boards and have bought into the hype. Warner will be good and contend. Lee will contend if he stays injury free. Marinelli could be a top 4 or 5 guy. Who else do you think is going to contend, because you are going to need 5 or 6 guys like that to contend with PSU and tOSU over the next 4 or 5 years. At least.

Dice, I don't assume a static situation nor do I wear my blue and white shades all the time. I recall 3-4 years ago people wondering if the game had passed John Smith by. Not by a long shot. Good coaches will put out a consistently good product, and if you hit the recruiting lottery, you'll be competing for the title. Just because Iowa doesn't have the guys in the room today doesn't mean they won't sign a N/N/N class in two years and be set for the next five. I don't disagree with your description of the landscape today, but tomorrow things can change.

The pridefulness on this board (I'm guilty too) sometimes gets to be a little much. Let's not be Iowa from 10 years ago and think it lasts forever, or believe our own hype.

What are your thoughts on the book "Four Days to Glory" about high school wrestling in Iowa with a focus on Jay Borschel and Dan LeClere? It does get into their recruitment.

Not James, but I thought it was an entertaining read. Tracked a lot with my experiences in high school-other than the highly recruited part

After two NCAAs, what results would indicate Lugo is a title contender? Flynn does a pretty good job developing his guys so I'm not sure why there is such an expectation of upside at this point. He really doesn't belong in the same sentence as those other guys, imo.

After two NCAAs, what results would indicate Lugo is a title contender? Flynn does a pretty good job developing his guys so I'm not sure why there is such an expectation of upside at this point. He really doesn't belong in the same sentence as those other guys, imo.

No results beyond a handful of quality mid-season wins. The win over Sorensen, combined with attrition through graduation of other top 149s, is what I believe has led to the sense by some (note that I chose my words carefully in that post) that Lugo will be a contender.

Personally, I'm still in "show me"
mode. But I'll concede some benefit of the doubt for discussion's sake.

I certainly don't wear B&W shades all the time. tOSU is the threat in the immediate future. Iowa may get a great recruiting class sometime in the future, but that is not going to help them in the 2-3 year window you referenced. Their best team may be in 2 years when Kemerer is a SR, but I don't see them contending for the top spot that year.

You gave one example (and not a great one at that) vs. 100's of ignorant examples I can name off hand.. not to mention the ones I don't know about. Bottom line is everyone is entitled to their opinion and people outside of Iowa don't, and never will, feel the same as you do about Brands. The vitriol is definitely greater over there but Turk has a point about Penn State's championship run (sitting on top of the mountain will generally make fans happier). There would be more ugliness over here if PSU and Iowa's situations were reversed.

Assuming for the moment that all the conduct you're referring to--on both sides--can be lumped together as indistinguishable, it would only be "hypocrisy" on the part of any poster who called out x but not y, a presumption which you loudly proclaimed as part of your thesis, even now. But about which you were mistaken, because, as I theorized, you're an ignorant blowhard, for which there is mounting evidence.

You are further mistaken with respect to your presumption that the faults or problems of x program somehow revokes the license of any poster to opine about y program, which happens to be the core flaw of a rhetorical style afflicting too many discussions these days, sometimes referred to as whataboutism. It's a style routinely employed by people--often trolls, like yourself--who would prefer to distract from the instant matter, whatever that may be, by enlarging the sphere of debate to conflate all manner of otherwise distinguishable topics so that practically nothing can be discussed.
