Turk or chief?
This is inadvertently making the other poster's point for him: Penn State got 4 out of the top 5 or 6 of those guys.The PA kids might have better than 8th in them. Without thinking about weight classes... Nolf, Retherford, Gulibon, Joseph, Lee, Teasdale, Brown, Coy, Kemmerer, Young, Pletcher, Shields, Phillippi etc... The Hidlays... Left a lot of hammers out. Teshaun Campbell at Pitt.
I agree. We want to put the best team together we can. I just think an all PA team including the kids we already have would fare better than 8th. (edit) when you think about it in terms of PSU taking off the top and then filling out elsewhere vs PSU with a PA bias it's clearly going to be a better team if we take the best kids regardless of geography. Still the PA team is better than 8th I thinkThis is inadvertently making the other poster's point for him: Penn State got 4 out of the top 5 or 6 of those guys.
I agree that the non-PSU all-PA team probably beats 8th. Even so, and not saying this is your philosophy: there's no reason Cael should take an undersized Devin Brown when he can get Suriano. Or less experienced Campbell over Bo Nickal. Or defense-first Coy over Nick Lee. Etc.
True for Iowa as well. Slightly less than half their team is out-of-state, and a higher percentage than the Nittany Lions.The reality is that PSU is now recruiting successfully across the country. While PA is a hotbed of talent, there are more talented wrestlers in other states in many cases. Cael is focused on bringing in the best wrestlers who fit his philosophy regardless of where they come from.

I think this means we will watch a lot more stud PA wrestlers go other places either because PSU already is set at their weight, Cael doesn't think they fit his philosophy, or the wrestler gets a better offer somewhere else.
It's a bummer watching all of this great PA talent go elsewhere but all of that is because PSU is so good now. I'd rather have it this way than have mostly PA/NY boys and finish 8th every year.
Don't let this thread die!
this post has nothing to do with murin, S lee or anyone else "we dont get", it just my opinion of the current team and future prospects. PSU right now in my opinion is recruiting kids that have;
- a high level of spirituality
- are good students
- are student athletes that are self starters off the mat
- are student athletes that dont need to be baby sat.
I think we have several former lions during the Cael era that challenged that recruiting model and now because of the reputation and our winning ways the staff can be very-very selective of who they recruit after they are settled on the wrestling ability or ability to learn of a particular athlete.
I think you can go up and down the lineup and see those qualities in the athletes. certainly their twitter accounts and interviews give that impression to the public.
Again this is in the murin thread but has nothing to do with murin or iowa, just something I felt needed to be typed after reading through the CM thread just before reading through this.

Iowa always gets good wrestlers, but yeah they are stepping out of their traditional recruiting model. If all work out they should improve on their 5th finish.Congrats to Iowa and the young man. Iowa is building a great couple of classes for '17 and '18. Definitely adds to this rivalry!
I've made some posts in a similar vein...
Read the posters handle before you read the post.I have a confession. I cannot tell dicemen and dunke apart. Both you guys write good posts. I also couldn't tell jefe apart from you guys before, but now I notice he makes more jokes on average in addition to the good posts. Is there an easy way to remember who is who?
