Name a team who can beat a top 5 team on the road with their backup QB playing three quarters

If the question is what team could have beat a team like Iowa with a second stringer and a lead, that would be OSU 2017. Dwayne Haskins or Joe Burrow could have done it. Joe Burrow almost for sure because he is a great game manager and Iowa has a mediocre qb and would not be able to score much, if at all if the other team is moving the ball. Haskins came in around late in the 3rd quarter against Michigan with OSU down after a Barrett injury and played a nearly perfect game to beat a huge rival (but not a top 5 team). Beating Michigan while coming in cold is what won the job for Haskins the next year. Joe because of a hand injury in pre-season never had the opportunity to prove what he could do under fire in a meaningful game.

Iowa is not #3. They are still receiving credit for beating IU and ISU when they had their insanely overrated rankings. Iowa is a top 15 team

uh, what top 5 team did they beat?
The title wasn't about which top 5 team did they beat. It's about what top 5 "could" they beat. And to see that OU backup come in and ignite that offense to rally past Texas and that huge early deficit was impressive. And keep in mind, he replaced and benched the preseason Heisman candidate (Rattler)

Also, Jalen Hurts and Tua were on the same team. And Tua came in as second string and won the national championship.

actually this year's tOSU team could do that. In fact, tOSU could probably use Miller and survive. In today's world of transfers, that may never happen again. IMHO we ware about to put a total whupping on Iowa before that injury. I am going with 31-10 final. the OFF we fielded in the second half would be lucky to beat any BIG team.

With a defense as good as ours and an offense as bad as theirs? Come on. All we needed was below average quarterback play, not what we got, and an offensive line that did not self implode.
Our defense didn’t look too good when they gave up the go ahead TD.

Agree, most would. But the question just asked name a team who can. To answer Oklahoma is not “wrong” just because you disagree with it. That poster obviously believes Oklahoma could have won the game last night at Iowa if their backup came in. That’s the hypothetical the OP asked.
Someone could say that every team could…I believe he was looking for actual examples.

OK, let me be specific. After what you saw yesterday, should Iowa be ranked among the TOP 5. Make your decision based upon talent, offensive capabilites, and defensive capabilities. If you still say they are a Top 5 team we disagree.
After what I’ve seen for six weeks, I see one team that should be ranked in the top 5….unfortunately they do have to pick five.

Ok, but he didn’t ask that, his question is specifically phrased to ask who could, not who did. And if it was intended to be who did, it’s an absurd question because the number of instances where a better team loses its QB on the road against a fellow top 5 team is going to be extremely rare itself.

It is rare, but some rare thing happening to cause us to lose doesn’t stop the PSU “faithful” on this board from using it to bash the coaches. Starting QB goes down, should be prepared. Four hour rain delay, should be prepared for that. I guess PSU should have 12 hour practices every day and cover every possible situation.

Spoken like an immature 14-year old who can't accept the big L. Recruit better is the answer and don't be a one man show on offense and when that guy goes out you're sunk. It's football- not ballet.
odd take, since I'm not one of the ones whining about a loss

Thanks so much... I can't think of one.
So you think Alabama, Georgia OSU and several other teams with a 14 point lead couldn't beat Iowa with their backup QB.
I disagree. I doubt that Iowa could have scored 14 on those teams and they probably would have needed to score more than 14.

I think it’s pretty well established and accepted that we’re not Alabama, Georgia or OSU and neither is anyone else.

because you say so? where is the evidence?
Well, he did d see one thing special yesterday against a credible team. He did it in high school. Of course, evidence of an answer of a question that calls for a future answer is an interesting concept.

How did you derive that i think we are from my post?
You named them in your post and said Iowa couldn’t have beat them if they had a 14 point lead and their backup QB….that’s why I said we’re not any of those teams.

And that kid has been playing all year because their starting QB has sucked balls.
Fact check = false. The backup had played one meaningful series (first and goal at the KSU five and he screwed it up) prior to being thrown into the cauldron of the OU-Texas game.

Has PSU ever been the on the other end of what happened today? Where PSU was getting dominated by another team and on their way to a loss, when their QB went down and PSU was able squeak out a win against a better team?
Not the same but, how about at #1 Notre Dame in 1990. We were down 21-7 at halftime. Rocket Ismail didn’t play the second half, that definitely didn’t hurt. We of course went on to win.
