Names coming off jerseys

Now if only Franklin can get Rivals to change back to Thread View ..........

Statement from Head Coach James Franklin:

For 125 years Penn State proudly followed a very simple idea: "Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Names. All Game."

In 2012, for the first time in the program's history, names adorned the back of the jersey to forever identify the men who stayed loyal, sacrificed & chose to play for this institution during the most difficult of times. The 2012 team, permanently recognized in Beaver Stadium, will hold an enduring place in our program's history. Their commitment will never be forgotten.

However, it's time we bring back the tradition that represented Penn State for 125 years. We are a strong family, playing for one goal, one university and there is only one name that truly matters, Penn State.

We Are.

This says it all. Now let's get the BoT off our back.

This is great. For the first time in years, I've actually felt that tinge in my heart reading both Franklin and Mangiro's statements this morning. It's the same tinge I used to feel watching the Penn State "Gladiator" pump up video. The Joe Pa "Look Around" video. That tinge.

For those of us like that, this means more than just some stupid uniform change. It means a whole lot more.

Preach.

Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, Mark Dantonio, and every season ticket holder over the age of 50 approve the move.

Honestly it's more annoying and crotchety to me than traditional. It was Joe's thing...so was not using the internet to recruit players (Do you guys want to go back to that too?).

On a side note, the whole "125+ years of no names" makes as much sense as Luxembourg touting 200 years of no space program or the Amish claiming over 300 years of no cars.

Bragging about being different for 125+ years as a symbol that we're different, and somehow sanctimoniously better, makes no sense when NO ONE had names on their jerseys 125 years ago. It's like my mother bragging about not having a cell phone for 70 years.

Who said anything about being different? Just you......and you clearly don't get it!

Oh, you're really helping me a lot kind sir!

Thanks!!

I think I'd rather get advice from the Captain of the Titanic rather than you sir!

How about advice from Sarge? He knows a thing or two about the sin bin.

Would be nice to see the alternate collar back. The jerseys look too plain without it.

I read Joe was using skype to recruit in his last years. But im not exactly sure how effective twitter is for recruiting. Its cool to see Franklin and some of his staff twitting, but I think most coaching staffs just have a young assistant update their twitter.
