United States Naval Academy
Navy had 7 points (37th place) at the 2019 NCAA Championship, equaling their 7 point performance from 2018 (36th place). The Midshipmen had a 6-4 dual record with losses against Ohio State, Lehigh, American and Army. Their biggest wins were against Duke and Maryland. Navy only had 10 duals because they were quite busy with tournaments. They finished 3rd out of 16 at the Navy Classic, 17th out of 43 at Cliff Keen, 5th out of 23 at the Southern Scuffle and 1st out of 8 at the All-Academy Championship. Navy finished 5th out of 16 at the EIWA Championship and qualified 5 wrestlers to the NCAA Championship.
Navy has a busier dual schedule this season starting with a return to San Diego where they will wrestle Fresno State on the pier and Wisconsin on the USS Midway on November 1st. They have a total of 14 duals and still have three tournaments: the Navy Classic, Southern Scuffle and All-Academy Classic. And, of course, they visit Happy Valley where they haven’t visited since 2003 (credit to the Penn State Wrestling Club website for that bit of info).
Navy returns four of their five qualifiers last season. This season, Jared Prince probably has the best shot at reaching the podium and they add help at heavyweight. The Midshipmen should be able to at least match their performance from last season with some upside potential.
