NCAA Ticket Allotments

No it wasnt a 60% cut from what they got last year. They asked for a similar amount both years, and got 250 last year and 240 this year. If that is the "cut" everyone gets, that is not worth the apparent angst...

Minnesota received 378 tickets last year.

The fact is schools did not get what they expected to get and what they had gotten in the past.. As I mentioned earlier the two schools I had direct contact with got well over 100 tickets last year and this year got 50.. This is not taking in to account requested tickets.. this is actual tickets received..

Agree they didn't get what was expected not sure if it was the NCAA not communicating with the schools or the schools not communicating with the wrestling programs.Regardless lot of booster clubs will be taking a hit

Ok do you know what they requested last year

I am not sure the exact number of requested so I don’t want to guess. I believe they received around 75% of requested though.

Also I think u guys are focusing too much on MN in this scenario as it is affecting every program.

Again you never get the amount I request, coaches know this. The system has been fairly consistent where programs usually have an idea of what to expect. Same with the fans of those programs.

If the NCAA or host site or whoever wants to change something obviously they would have the right. I would hope they would sympathize with programs and fans and make them aware of a potential change earlier though. Two months notice, after many have always made expenses to be there is way too short of window. The timeframe and lack of transparency is what has everyone scrambling. Its certainly a headache for everyone involved.

thats what really sucks... i am pretty confident i will get tickets. but i am driving distance and can cancel the hotel room if I dont get them. if i had booked flights or had other non-refundable arrangements and didn't get them because the PSU application process / history / ncaa set false expectations, I'd be annoyed.

There will be more tickets available two weeks prior to the event. NCAA is holding them. They will come out, have patience.

Dear Penn State Fan,

We are contacting you concerning your request for tickets to the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on March 21-23, 2019. The NCAA informed us this week of our allocation of championship tickets. The allocation is significantly less than in previous years. We know we will not be able to fulfill all the requests we have received with the tickets allotted to us. As we shared with you in the fall, the NLC point cut-off for the 2018 NCAA Championship was 1222. Based on the NCAA allocation and requested tickets, the 2019 NLC point cut-off will be much higher. We expect to inform you of the number of tickets we are able to allocate to you, if any, the week of January 21. Please note as we expect the NLC point cut-off to be much higher than in previous years, we are bringing this to your attention now in order to give you the opportunity to explore other ticket options.

Thats a very nice way to say gfy....

Like i said before you need to work in the AD's office. If you do the math its not hard to figure out 17000 seats minus club seats minus competitor tickets. It doesn't leave much on the bone. IF you give each program a few hundred tics it doesn't go far. Dont forget sponsors tickets also. Im in favor of Arizona in March, take a week off hit the golf course and some wrestling, im sure tickets will be available.

yeah, this is starting to feel like the athletic department and wrestler's families will get the majority of the tickets with not much left to spare. I bought airfare from the west coast thinking I had nothing to worry about. There's absolutely no reason the NCAA/venue couldn't provide the allotments to each school months ago.

I totally forgot about the NWCA, my brother has a ticket thru them, they pay a fee "DONTION" to them and first thing they do on Thursday of the tournament is pay for the next year, he did tell me the
fee "DONATION" is getting higher, but he does always get a really nice seat.

I might not be correct but in my opinion some of the shrinkage in ticket allotments is due to the new arena (PPG, Quicken Loans etc) policies in regards to season ticket holders. The impact is that those club level and suite holders get first rights on the seating their companies or themselves have for Hockey or basketball etc. In the past some of this seating was including in the allotments (ie St. Louis, Okla City) as people let the tickets go into to allotment the NCAA would assign to schools. When an area like Cleveland and now Pittsburgh come up as host and you have tOSU and PSU in close proximity those ticket holders use the seats or are asked to keep them for fans of PSU etc. I know this is the case for a big group of my friends. When these arena's/sports teams gets companies and individuals to commit to tickets/club level seating there are promises made to give them first right of refusal for certain events.
I think this is part of the equation but probably not all of it. I really don't believe the size of the past two arena's has as much to do with it as the overall seating allignment (ie club, suites etc) If you notice there are many different club areas and levels in these new arenas. Check out Little Caesars arena in Detroit.

Oh, come on. We all know what shrinkage is due to.

Yeah going to Minnesota in March for 2020 Awesome job NCAA. If that doesn't shrink it nothing will. Really wrestling is so unique 10 champions and 80 All- Americans so you're going to have so many schools involved. And if you have a possible champ you want to be there. Also the expanded coverage has made it more appealing to want to go just to experience the excitement. Growing up it was never a real option to go, always in the midwest or most years but we did get the 1hour finals on TV. Hell half the matches didn't even get air time. I remember watching 20 seconds of Troy Sunderland final his SR. year. Thank God for ESPN
P.s Eggum you can have all the tickets you want next year.

Just got an email from Binghamton that they were refunding my card due to unprecedented demand and limited supply. I guess I am not going to the burg.

Due to unprecedented demand and subsequent cutbacks by the NCAA, we regret to inform you that we are unable to honor your NCAA Wrestling Championship all session pass purchase. We have already issued a refund in the full amount, fees included, to the credit card used for the purchase.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

I think all the coaches are speaking out to advocate for transparency with hopes of some additional tickets being released. Others are also voicing frustration That they would select an arena that would utilize a seating configuration that would only house around 16,000 fans. In my opinion 20,000 should be the minimum four seats available.
20,000 seats? Where are you going to host it at? Unless you start hosting the event at places like ford field which would be a horrible experience then you just aren't going to have 20,000 seats. There are four arenas in the US that have 20k seats in a hockey configuration.
Are you suggesting they rotate it between Rupp Arena in Lexinton KY, Yum Center in Louisville KY, Quicken Loans in Cleveland and Greensboro Coliseum?

In fairness..if they can find a venue that does hold 20k, is somewhat well located for most wrestling programs, not sure having a permanent venue wouldn't be the best idea... no shifting allotments or at least minimal shifting in numbers.

I also received my Dear John letter from Binghamton. I'm now in between the quotes from the two famous Jones relatives; John Paul Jones - "I have not yet begun to fight" and Davy Jones of the Monkees irrationally thinking I have a chance somehow with "Daydream Believer".

I think this is more about location, eastern location higher demand and Pittsburgh is very accessible and lets face it Penn State alumni are tipping the scale. A lot of football guys are scooping up the ticket allotment with their points. As a long time supporter it pisses me off but that the system.

Actually top tier for PSU tickets is wrestling season ticket holders in NLC so you have to be a wrestling season ticket holder to be in top tier. Not saying there isn't under the table stuff happening but you could be Franco Harris and if you don't have season tickets to wrestling you technically are not in the top tier.

QUICK MATH

1500 NLC Points: 1 point for every $50 donated, there are a few bonus points possible each year. For the sake of easy math, that's $75,000 donated over time. Good on you for giving back to PSU!

Penn State makes certain there are tickets available for the proper donors, then they allocate to season ticket holders with enough points.

All I know is I have a friend who is a very big donor... president suite at the football games type donor and he asked about tickets this year and when they asked about his season ticket status and he said no...they said he had no chance to even apply. As I said, I'm sure some go to some people but that's everywhere. My point is that ex athletes are not scooping them all up. It's simply a number crunch issue and demand issue with it being in PGH and the team being so heavily favored.

No, it is not a PSU interest problem if all universities are being effected! If all are cut how can you say it is due to demand from the teams and donors? Where are the tickets going? The general sale sold out in minutes on the wednesday before NCAA’s of the prior year even started. The lack of transparency coupled with the fact that every team seems to be effected seems like the NCAA handed them to sponsors, or big ticket package companies.

Oh I don’t doubt the ncaa gave more to sponsors but there are a lot of factors including demand, arena size and certainly the NCAA and their handling of the tickets.

I would love to know who are getting these "unallocated" tickets. What is clear to me is the NCAA is controlling many more tickets than in the past. Across the board, schools are saying they have gotten less tickets than in previous years. Consider the posters on this board for example. Of the 100-150 rabid wrestling fans who regularly post or lurk here, many of whom have worked every avenue they could think of to get tickets, got nada. How many of us have contacted multiple schools, put out money for purchases or deposits, and got nothing. Most of the board members I've met at the at the championships over the past several years are empty handed. What has worked in the past (with regards to getting tickets) has yielded nothing. Seems to me, in a year we should have the biggest numbers in Pittsburgh, very few on the board have tickets. Just doesn't add up for me.

They should do the trip in Tampa as a test. Midsize 35k, easy access and other things to do

the sport is growing, we have to take the good with the bad--I have 1100 NLC points and I have 4 season tickets.I am pretty sure that I will not be getting tickets from PSU.

Are you suggesting that an NCAA D1 Championship Wrestling Tournament should be held in Tampa as a better alternative to Pittsburgh...? Sure, Tampa only has one D1 program- The Citadel - located within a 500-mile radius, but at least demand for tickets won't be as high as Pittsburgh and Cleveland!

Even the premium "Official NCAA Experience" tickets are sold out. This is going to be even uglier than Cleveland was last year and the last thing I want to do is stand in the cold dealing with scalpers again!

There are a bunch of great restaurants and bars in downtown Pittsburgh, which is where all of the NCAA's hotels are. Plenty of teams have parties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Come to Pittsburgh, pay $25-$50 to go to a party hosted by Lock Haven, Clarion, Penn State, or some other school. Talk wrestling with past greats. Then watch the wrestling at one of the bars that have it on their TV's. Check out National Team practices at Fan Fest. This is a great opportunity to reallocate your money from tickets to parties hosted by booster clubs of your favorite programs, eat at some great restaurants, drink at some great bars, meet new fans from other programs, and enjoy the wrestling at a bar packed with wrestling fans in the middle of one of our country's hotbeds for wrestling and PSU alums! Not having tickets this year shouldn't stop any PSU fan from coming to Pittsburgh to enjoy the NCAA Championships this year!
