Maybe I missed it but didn't see a thread on the NCAA wrestling tournament. Quarterfinals Friday afternoon and Semi's tonight with finals tomorrow evening.

Levi Hanes just did about the impossible. It was unbelieveable that he got out of a near fall position early in the match, and then down 6-1. But then he battled back to 8-8 and was trying to ride out and get the win on riding time. But then in a flurry won by Fall for the bonus points that will put Iowa out of it's missery!!!!!

Van Ness was also down big early in his quarterfinals match and battled back for a win.

For the moment PSUis up 18.5 team points on Iowa.

Just no quit in these freshmen. Cael and his staff prepare their kids like no other staff.

With the comebacks from the freshmen all the quarterfinalists were able to move into the Semi's. I don't believe any bonus points were secured, but the team lead was expanded a good bit.

Looking very good for the good guys. Seems that just 3 or 4 wins tonight and a couple NC's would close out the team title. But it will help if a couple of Iowa's semi finalists lose tonight. And if PSU has a big night tonight, maybe advancing 6 to the Finals, that they might have the team title wrapped up tonight.

The PSU gas tanks are remarkable. They are so well conditioned and unflappable. That was obvious with SVN and Levi. They are looking at 8 AAs…. Tough matches tonight but expect 4 advancing, at least. Incredible performance to this point. Cael had a secret sauce.

After the semi's Iowa is the only team with a statistical chance to beat the Nittany Lions. It says Iowa has 5 wrestlers in the consolation semi's but their theoretical possible 125.5 points includes every one of their wrestlers winning with maximum bonus points (i.e. pins) and that isn't going to happen. About any loss for Iowa and any win for PSU will clinch the team title, so PSU should have the team title wrapped up during tomorrow's first session, the consolation semi's and finals which includes the two PSU wrestlers that lost in the semi's this evening. Bartlett and Van Ness.

Should be an entertaining evening tomorrow. RBY had to really scramble to win in OT this evening but he is so comfortable in any scrap, and so much fun to watch. The true freshmen Levi Haines has ice in his veins. Starocci looks unbeatable. Brooks looks like he was insulted by the #3 seed and is on a mission. And Kirklviet will have his hands full with Paris but at least has a chance after riding the Air Force pinmaster into submission

The other highlight has to be seeing Spencer Lee get pinned in the closing seconds by Ramos of Purdue. Lee's mother had a hissie fit and intentionally broke her glasses and threw them to the ground, fitting in admirably with standard Iowa fan and alumi sportsmanship and behavior!!!!

That video of her was gut wrenching to watch. Some will argue that she overreacted but, for me, there was just sooo much pain and grief in her face. As a human being, I don’t think you want to see anyone go through that much emotional suffering no matter the circumstances. I feel bad for Lee, but was really happy for Ramos. What a moment for that kid. Thrilled for PSU wrestling.

For every winner there is a loser, and for every loser there is a winner. I don't feel sorry for her as she must be pretty conceited in her view of not only her son's ability but possibly her son's "right" to win based on how hard he worked and all the effort her and her family put out to help her son get to the top of his craft. But many of the other wrestlers he has beaten could have worked just as hard, their support group just as committed, so it's easy to be very happy for Ramos and his family, coaches and support group. If Lee had won it would also have been easy to fail to recognize all the work and dedication that Ramos and his support group have endured on their journey and their disappointment that he didn't win.

Upsets seem to be the most interesting part of major sports and that match will be talked about just as long as if Lee had gotten into the 4 NCAA championship club.

Doesn't Starocci have a chance to win 5 NCAA titles with his Covid year? That would be something for the record books as well......

Try the wrestling board.

Spencer Lee medically withdrew and therefore finished 6th.

He didn't look hurt until his pride took a hit.

Maybe his Mom beat him up for getting pinned. o_O o_O o_O

Hard to recover from a brain injury and that loss hurt his head, badly!

I take no pride in watching a mother lose her cool on national TV. I've acted like an idiot many times in my life and fortunately it wasn't caught on camera. With that being said, sportsmanship is a two-way street, be proud of your sons accomplishments but don't degrade an opponents victory by making it about you. What an entitled country we've become.

With the way Iowa FB fans behave, I love to see Iowa suffer. A lot!

When do we find out about the Hodge Trophy? Feels like either Starocci or Brooks might be able to win potentially.

Brooks has a loss so he's pretty much out. My guess is Parris will win it as an undefeated champ. Although they could give it to Yianni who has 4 titles. But he also has one loss.

Okay but Starocci is undefeated and actually had the most points at NCAAs and is a three time champ. He’s got to at least be in the conversation, no?

Spencer Lee getting pinned has made this an open race a bit I would think.

Correct that Carter was undefeated. However, he probably loses out in the dominance category. My guess would be Mason Parris, the heavyweight from Michigan.
