I thought that Nolf may have deserved some near fall points from the first period... anyone else agree?

Wish I could tell you but I’m far from a wrestling expert. It seems OSU wrestlers just aren’t losing and they are getting bonus points as good or better than psu.

Jon, thank you sir much sir!

We are in good shape. Not great. Lots of wrestling to take place. I think we will be in first after tomorrow

Need Nolf to be healthy and a Rasheed win is vital

Have you looked at OSU’s match ups?

If PSU is a perfect 7-7, would probably need OSU to lose 4 of their 9......... can you envision that happening? Without completely rose colored glasses.

Don't forget "tomorrow" is not just Session 3 quarterfinals, but Session 4 with semi-finals and wrestlebacks

Not out of the question that PSU could lead after tomorrow

Oh, I’m not “forgetting”....... and I’m sure as hell gonna’ be rooting for them.
But unless they make headway on the morning, they are gonna’ be really behind the 8 ball.
There is a difference between “not being out of the question” vs “expecting”.

And - best case scenario - IIRC, they only get two shots for head to head wins in the evening - - IF things play out right for them.

After whatvthey did last year, can’t count them out..... but this is a much better OSU team than last year - AND they have caught every possible break today.
oh, thanks for clearing that up, norm....

here I thought when reading your earlier post that you weren't taking into account all of Friday's action, just Section 3
It looks like you have a very hard time admitting a mistake

Ohio State would have to really fall flat on their face to lose the team race and PSU would need a performance like last year. Nolf being hurt is costing PSU some bonus. Lee losing early lost a few points. OSU wrestling crazy (they sort of look like PSU of the past few years) and getting every break. OSU is going to need to be upset a multiple weights for PSU to have a chance. The 125 situation with Suriano leaving was just too much to overcome. Put Suriano back on PSU and PSU and OSU would be having an truly epic battle this year.

No....Ohio State would have to really fall flat on their backs.....! :D

Here's my take on today.

What are the chances that we get 7 guys to win twice today and get to tomorrow night’s finals? Without looking at who they may be wrestling, here’s how I see it, simply based on the quality of our guys. I rank their chances excellent, good, maybe, or doubtful for getting to the finals.

Zain Retherford – Excellent

Jason Nolf – Excellent

Bo Nickal – Excellent

Vincenzo Joseph – Good

Mark Hall – Excellent

Shakur Rasheed – Maybe

Nick Nevills – Doubtful (Won’t beat Coons if he makes it to the semis)

So I think we can reasonably hope to get 5 guys to the finals again if we wrestle to our capabilities.

Any "not completely crazy" scenario that I can see that would allow PSU to catch them, would include PSU advancing at least 5 to the finals.... that would require all of PSU's favorites to win (Retherford, Hall Nickal, and - if healthy - Nolf), PLUS at least 1 upset (Preferable Rasheed making it through and knocking off Moore).
That is essentially what they accomplished on Friday last year...... and I wouldn't write off the ability of Cael and the boys to do it again.

The difficulty, and what is out of PSU's control, is that OSU would probably have to advance 3 or less:
Snyder is as close to a lock for the finals as you can get.
Moore has a relatively easy path (toughest out might be Rasheed, if he makes it to quarters, and - at that - he handled Rasheed pretty easily at Big Tens)
Martin will be a very heavy favorite to get to the finals at 184 (where Nickal will have to beat him)

So, realistically, in addition to PSU wrestling lights out, ALL of the following would have to happen:

- Bo Jordan, Pletcher, and Hayes of OSU will have to get knocked out ASAP
- Nolf will have to beat Micah Jordan
- Meredith will have to beat McKenna (who's been really dominating lately)
- Spencer Lee will have to beat Tomasello (Tomasello has beaten him - IIRC - twice.... but Lee is really wrestling well, so there is a shot there, I think)

That's a lot of stuff that has to go right - that PSU doesn't control.
Could happen (OSU surely had EVERYTHING go right thus far, so maybe things regress to the mean?)

Much like the dual meet - where I (and I am sure lots of others) said PSU's chances would likely come down to the chances of PSU's 197 knocking off the (then) undefeated Moore...... which Cassar did..... the key for this tourney may be the chances that Rasheed can move on and face - and defeat - Moore. Not an easy task. But that would probably be the one "relatively reasonable" thing that would most impact the team race.

No doubt.... going to be a nail-biting Friday in Cleveland.

Moore has to beat either Shak or the kid from NC State, who handled Moore less than a month ago. And when he beat Shak at B10s, he didnt have to make weight the next morning. much better to get him Friday night as opposed to Saturday night

definitely not an easy road for Moore
