New OC Candidates

Prying Brady away from LSU will be very expensive, though I am sure he is looking for his own OC gig. Would be in interesting as he has never actually called plays before afaik.

This is a very attractive spot for an OC, with a returning qb, lots of skill at RB and WR, depth at OL, and one of the top TEs last year returning.

We can’t afford. Would require readjustments in salary for whole staff. Significant ones.

Rich Rod return to the B1G?

Chad Morris?
Chad Morris likely won't be on the board as looking like he is headed to Auburn as OC.

The rationale for Rahne was that he could run Moorehead's system and Franklin did not want to install a new system. If that is the case, who is out there familiar with Moorehead's concepts?

Need someone who can go to toe to toe with OSU and their killer instinct and who is able to make adjustments quickly. Have to think it will be someone with experience this time and someone who has had success developing QBs. Unless there are positional changes, but most OCs seem to be QB coaches as well.

Pulling Yurcich from OSU would be a great move, but doubt Day would let him go without a fight.

Mike Leach (if he were to ever get fired). He could be OC and Chief Press Conference Delegate. That way Franklin wouldn't have to worry about stupid questions from the PSU beat writers.

Leach would eviscerate them before the B&W game.
Leach's contract was just extended.

Does coach Seider have desires to be an OC? If we bring someone in, will we lose him and his south Florida recruiting ties?

Maybe it’s time for a new system? With a young team it would allow them a couple years to pick it up.

I don't agree with that. Only pitt players take years to learn a new system. And really even pitt players take some blame from the system changes when with their HC they weren't going to look organized no matter what system they ran.

Modern football offenses are not that much different. I believe it is more play calling that enlighten strategy. Franklin has alluded to that a number of times when he mentions other teams and the plays they run. With a returning QB that seems like a pretty quick learner I'm not looking for PSU to have to use any excuses for 2020. ;)

so we go backwards to go forwards? That won't go over well

Our offense was regressing all year long. I don’t think a new system is inherently going backwards - see the addition of Moorhead for the most recent example on how a new system has the potential to bring renewed excitement to a team.

The offense system is fine just need a new coach with fresh ideas specially in the pass game. Most College teams runs PSU offense or some variation of it.
Yeah, OSU seems to run almost the exact same offense as does Michigan with Gattis at the helm.

I like bigsirspur idea of Rich Rod. You gotta think he'd love to hang half a hundred on UM and Don Brown.

We should go after Kirk Ciarrocca, the current Minnesota Gophers Offensive Co-ordinator. He played HS football at Red Land and has family near York/Harrisburg. He coached Joe Flacco at Delaware, and did a pretty good job against PSU this year if you sadly recall. Makes $700K in Minn and I don't know how that stacks up. I know for a fact that he does not like Minnesota winters. Franklin had nothing but good things to say about his work in the Minn post-game conference, Would be a great candidate in my estimation.

Based upon Franklin’s track record, I would think that it would have to be someone whom he worked with before, or someone another valued colleague could vouch for.

There are a lot of really good offensive minds out there who currently occupy jobs lesser than the PSU OC job.

Steve Spurrier
Jim McMahon
Mike Martz
Scott Frost
Charlie Weis
Lou Holtz
Art Briles
Phil Jackson

We're limited only by our own imagination.
